New Camaro?

Hey im new to this forum and I am a big Camaro fan. I was wondering if anyone can fill me in on what is going on with GM and the design of any new Camaros? Just about any new Camaro info would be great.

Well from wat i heard the new camaro concept will be shown in 2006 and in 2010 is when it is slated for production

So far...

1. Camaro Concept vehicle rumored for debut at NAIAS '06
2. Probable debut is 2008, but that may even be a bit early an estimate.

*It will have a 5.3 that performs like the LS1.
*Subcontractors have already been picked, and are well into developing parts.
*It will have at least 2 different rear suspensions.
*It will be made alongside at least 2 other coupes.
*It will be out sometime during the 2007 model year (January 2006 to January 2007)

That's about all you're going to get anyone to say in a forum, unless they REALLY know you.

99Camaro: The 3rd gen. evolved into the 4th gen. which became a dead end road. The 4th gen. Camaro, as good as it was is partially responsible for this B.S. "hiatus". IN the end the BEST Camaro was the 1st gen. That was a true Musclecar wiht no excuses or compromises. Ad yet it was the most comfortable (relatively speaking) and did not have some of the later half-assed annoyances like the non true dual exhausts, catalitic converter hump, poor visibility issues and lack of identity issues that resulted from bland styling. A coupe in the form of the 1st gen. car is the perfect way to go. A fresh start. The new Caamro will be retro. Maybe it will be 10% retro wiht just a hint of '69 or maybe it will make the Mustang look modern wiht it's all out throwback to the 60s. Either way as long as it looks like a Camaro I'll be happy. Well executed retro kicks ass!

P.S. he Bel Air concept pretty much sucked. It was boring and bland and the high grille was very poorly executed.

For starters the grille should have some detailing and some bullet bumperettes and should be located down LOW. This thing looks like it was designed by the guy who did the Toyota Sienna and Honda Accord. <_<

sixty u are 100% right, i just dread the thought of the 5th gen looking to much like the mustang, hopefully it wont, and u were right again when u said even if it does.... any camaro is better than no camaro (if well done)

I have heard the roof line is more sleek like a second gen which fits the SS concepts style. Also I keep hearing 07 and the 40th anniversery is a target if production is not held up with problems. The brass also does not want a long lead in like the Soltice so 07-08 sound more like a reasonable date. Watch for post from the Fbodfather on various web sites he is giving the best accurate legal clues you will find. Fbodfather has said all the pictures in magazines are not even close to what they have now. He is involved so he should know.

The Bel Air concept wasn't a bad looking car. With a few retouches here and there, the black duck can become a white swan.

I would like to see the pictures of the redesign of the Bel Air concept that hangs in the Tech Center lobby. I have heard it is QUITE different.


That is what lowering the Bel Air does. I would really like to see a tweeked version of it.

I always liked that Bel Air concept. It's an interpretation of the original for our times.

I liked the Bel Air too. The one that was on the show circuit in 2002 had chrome trim chages that made it look a heck of a lot better than the one in that pic posted by Sixty8. It would have been interesting had it been produced....it could have filled the same role as the last Thunderbird for about half the price.

Sorry I thought the BelAir concept was about as worthy of it's coveted name as the VW Phaeton is of it's name. I just think it was weak and very jellybeanish. Where are the sharp lines and jutting fins?

Willmington is in need of a relatively small production program to fill space left from Kappa. Also the G-body plant and old Grand Am plant are available.

Most American car companies building V8 cars tend to go to Canada due to the CAFE. If the REW sedans are based on the same platform as the GTO or Camaro I expect to see them built across the boarder. They have got to keep the average fleet milage up anyway they can.

with the Ion seemingly headed to Lordstown, Spring Hill TN is possible..
Oshawa Ontario is likely, Wilmington Del could be, Doraville Ga is possible if they dont get the Lambda minivans. the Lansing crafte center could be but there isnt enough volume capability.. the really dark horse in this one could be Janesville Wisconsin, really all the big SUV's could be assembled in Arlington Texas and Salio Mexico, so i wouldnt even leave them out..

I thought Chevy has some sort of binding contract with the Canadian autoworkers that any Camaro produced must be made in Canada. Did they get out of that agreement?

I think the contract of having to build it in Canada has expired.

I believe the situation with the St Therise plant is set to expire for the 2007 model year. That opens everything up for the new Camaro to be built whereever GM decides. We'll see what comes forth.

Agreed. The BelAir concept almost made me cry.

On a side note. Was the Velite concept loosely based on the BelAir concept? I see quite a few simularities, aside from the fact that the Buick was done better.
