Ok guys, I need someone's help that maybe works at the factory or a dealership. I just ordered my 2008 GMC Sierra 2500 HD, well, it will be a while till I get it, so I was in my office just going through the brochure, reading about all my new goodies coming my way and noticed a discrepancy. When I filled out the order form in the audio section, it was an extra $300 or so for the in dash 6 disc changer on the radio. I hardly listen to CD's so I just took the single CD because it didn't cost any extra. However, looking through the brochure, I notice that on the SLT trim that I picked, the 6 disc in dash is standard with that trim package? Called my dealer and asked if he could check on it. I don't want to pay the extra $300 for it, but if it's already built into the price of the SLT, I'd like to have it since I'm paying for it. He calls me back the next day and says that there's an SLT1 and SLT2 package and the 6 disc in dash is only standard on the SLT2 package, and that I had ordered the SLT1?? NOw I'm no factory GM rep, but I've never heard of an SLT1 or SLT2. I know they offer and SLE1 and SLE2 trim level. HE also started saying the the SLT1 has 6 way pwer seats, and the SLT2 has the 10 way??? Anyone know if this guy is just being a typical salesman or is there any truth to this? I thought the only level up from the SLT was the Denali. There's no mention of any derivatives of the SLT trim anywhere in the brochure, online, etc. Next question, if he doesn't know what he's talking about, will the factory override my selection and just put the 6 disc in there if it's part of the SLT package? Thanks for your help guys. I don't want to go down there and raise hell if the guy is actually telling the truth.

I recommend looking at CarsDirect.com to see the different configuration options. You didn't specify which truck you're getting <regular, extended, crew cab> <4x2,4x4>. But just a cursory look seems to me there is no SLT1 and SLT2 package. The 6-disk changer also appears to be $250.

Sorry guys. The truck I ordered is a '08 2500 HD Crew cab SLT 4x4. Steel Grey with Ebony interior. I know what some places say, it's just crazy to me that the factory brochure that I have for 2008 would have the wrong information in it. A piece of literature that you hand out to consumers specifically for information, should have the right information in it, should it not?

The people who do make brochures sometimes do make mistakes, however I do not see anything on GMC's site nor Carsdirect.com that hints at an SLT1 or SLT2 package.

Furthermore, it looks like the 6-disk changer does not come standard in any package available on the 2500HD

edit: And call him out on the power seats. 10 ways aren't available on the 2500HD that I can see.... you can get 6 way or 8 way on some Duramax models. 12 way seats come on the Denali

GM regularly uses the 1 & 2 designation to show additional option packages on vehicles. For instance you can order a 1LT HHR or a 2LT HHR. It is not something that they usually advertise in their brochures, but use as an ordering sheet for the dealers. If you see an additional option package in the brochure, chances are that's the 2SLT package for the vehicle you are ordering.

The GMC Yukon and Yukon XL have the SLT1 and SLT2 designations as far as options go. The Sierra line-up, regardless of it's size (1/2, 3/4, 1 ton) only comes in SLT (Work Truck 1SA, SLE1 3SA, SLE2 3SB, and SLT 4SA are teh opton package RPO codes). You ordered a SLT 4SA equipped truck.

You will be getting these seats in your truck:

AN3 Seats, front bucket, includes 10-way power driver and front passenger seat adjusters including 2-way power lumbar control, power bolsters, heated seat cushions and seatbacks, 2-position driver memory, adjustable outboard head restraints, floor console and storage pockets

I'm also seeing that the US9 Audio system (AM/FM stereo with MP3 compatible 6-disc in-dash CD changer, seek-and-scan, digital clock, auto-tone control and Radio Data System (RDS) *1 - Not available with (U42) Entertainment Package) is an option on the SLT 4SA package and is not standard. The US8 Audio system (AM/FM stereo with MP3 compatible CD player, seek-and-scan, digital clock, auto-tone control, Radio Data System (RDS), speed-compensated volume and TheftLock) is the standard radio on all trim packages (Work Truck, SLE1, SLE2, and SLT). Unless you upgrade to the US9, UVB or U3U radio systems, you get US8 standard.

I think your salesman is confused between the Yukon/Yukon XL and Sierra option package designations. I'd call him out on it and let the sales manager know that this sales member is not very knowledgable about the prouct he is selling you for the money your spending there (see if it gets you anything free, like an oil change visit or two!).

Thanks for all your help guys! I guess it's just coming down to a salesman who doesn't know nearly as much as we do about our beloved trucks, and GM not proofreading their brochures. I could go down there and show them the brochure and make a stink, but it's not really the kind of guy that I am. Since I was on here today, now I'm even thinking about trying to pick up one of the factory nav. units that someone else has pulled out and try to put it in there. Thanks Oldsmoboi, Yeah, I've spent lots of time looking at the Lux vs. non-Lux swap and what all it entails. Might not go that far, I've heard from a few Audio installers that it's not as easy or foolproof as some might say. At this point, I might just buy the $300 Magellan Nav that suctions to the dash and leave the damn radio alone! It sucks to have the curse of always wanting stuff done proper and the right way. I wish GM didn't charge so damn much for something that is so cheap elsewhere, I'd just have them do it at the factory when they built it. Thanks for all ya'lls help.
