So I showed my dad the UTE and Commodore wagon today, and he didn't really care much for either of them (he really likes the G8).

He thought the UTE was pretty stupid as a Pontiac, and he didn't really like the wagon, or see much point in it (says most people would just buy a crossover). This is coming from someone who isn't a car enthusiast, but certainly more interested in them than the average Joe.

Just thought I'd share, since I thought it was interesting that he is considering a G8 but doesn't like either of the other two variants.

Variety is good! :AH-HA_wink:

Remember the days when you could get a sedan, coupe, hardtop, convertible, and wagon out of one model line?

I think the most recent occurrences of that would be either the A-bodies <coupe, sedan, wagon> or J-bodies <coupe, sedan, wagon, convertible>

variety wise, 1st gen x bodies and A bodies are unbeatable

62-63 nova: convertable, sedan, coupe, hardtop wagon

64-72 chevelle is even better: 2 door sedan, 4 door sedan, 2 door hardtop, 4 door hardtop, wagon, convertable, el camino...

a car for everyone

Let's not forget the 1969 Pontiac Custom-S. My most favorite A body! :smilewide:

That's why I love Holden and Zeta. They have the potential to even outdo the '68-'72 A bodies because Zeta is so flexible and can be AWD.

See, this is an idear who's time has come...back. I've been wanting a return to this way of automotive thinking for a long time. Meaningful trim level differences for a range of pricing... coupe, sedan, wagon, convertible and maybe even sedan pickup bodystyles on the same platform... basic 4 cylinder, six cylinder, eight cylinder, hybrid, and diesel engine choices... manual and automatic transmissions... rear and AWD... I fail to see how this formula could not work in this day and age. It's the A-body creed reincarnated for the 21st century. Edited by ocnblu

Your dad is the polar opposite of me, I won't consider the G8 because it is a sedan.

Opposite of me too!

I would rather have a Wagon or Ute version, depending on the usage needed for the vehicle.

Amen!

And, Uh, ... Ahem!

I did the same thing, over the holiday. My father had seen the G8 sedan before ("oh, not bad"), but not the possible wagon/ute.

Only showed him the Ute, and remarked IMHO that I worry about how something like that--no matter how cool--will actually do in America, let alone as a Pontiac. Basically, questioning WHO would make up a bulk of buyers.

His response? "I would. I could use a bed to haul different things, but like it more with car aerodynamics and mileage. The big problem will just be that it's only a 2 seater...it would be more attractive if it still had the sedan interior space plus the bed."

So, still, pretty good--this is coming from a '92 Buick Roadmaster driver. As for the wagon, he's been liking any wagon more and more lately (basically, as he says, like your typical SUV everyone has...but a car base and more efficient), so I knew that would just be a typical "Not bad" reaction.

I still worry about the Ute...but we'll see, if it really comes and how it really does.

I went home for the holiday and saw that my sis' desktop is a picture of a G8. I was like, "Damn kid, nice car." She's like, "Oh, yeah, that's the G8. It's effin' gorgeous!"

Saturn S-Series (Coupe, Sedan, Wagon). ;) I couldn't resist.

Blastphemer, nothing is better than the 68-72 A bodies, nothing! :AH-HA_wink:

 Hardly.

The As are my favorite cars of all time, but the Zetas are their spiritual successors.

I love them both.

The As are my favorite cars of all time, but the Zetas are their spiritual successors.

I love them both.

The A's are my favorite cars, I shall not want!

They maketh me to go down in green pastures real fast.

They leadeth me beside the still waters.

They restoreth my soul, because they go like a bat out of Hell.

They leadeth me in the path of speeding tickets.

Yea, though I drive through the valley of the shadow of death.

I will fear no evil: for thou horn are with me.

Thy radio and [thy] seatbelt, they comfort me

Thou preparest a road before me

In the presence of [mine] enemies.

Thou anointest my head with engine oil.

My washer fluid runneth over.

Surely all cars shall follow me, all the days of my life.

And I will dwell in the house of legend forever.
