GM @ SEMA
Chevy Suburban HD Z71 Diesel

The Chevy Suburban HD Z71 is the culmination of a “what if” exercise that melds the popular Suburban 2500HD with the popular Z71 off-road package – a combination not currently offered by the factory – and partners it with a new, fuel-saving smaller-displacement diesel engine. The concept uses many production parts, including the front-end assembly from Chevy’s HD trucks, along with some unique custom touches – including rear wheel flares that pick up the styling cues of the front end. Power is generated by a new 4.5L diesel engine that gives this off-road-ready Suburban power, poise and efficiency.

Vehicle highlights:
• Suburban 2500HD Z71
• Silverado HD front-end assembly
• Z71 running boards
• Custom rear wheel flares
• New 4.5L diesel engine
• New rear axle
• Chrome tow hooks
• Custom interior touches

GM Accessories features (production and concept):
• Twenty-inch wheels (concept)
• Chrome hood louvers
• Fuel door (concept)
• Roof rack (concept)
• Trailer hitch close-out
• Two-way remote start

(Originally, the embargo for this vehicle was Tuesday, Oct 30, 12:01am EST, however, the pics have now been posted on a public website:

Nice looking package, I guess it needed the rear flares because of the width of the HD rear axle. I want to hear more about the engine.

Could this be the upcoming diesel? What are the spec of the engine?

This one of the most important releases by GM, and it should be getting way way more more attention than a little blurb. I know all the info is not out yet, but this is the best thing to come out next to the new Hybrid SUVs being released.

Here you go...

I like it a overall, including the rear wheel flare. The package as a whole makes it look tough. That's the fascia off of the HD's right? I wonder if it would look better with the 1/2 ton front fascia on it. I never cared for the front end of the HD Silverados.

Man, if you put the Sierra's front end on the Yukon for a diesel version that would kick ass.

I think it'd look better with the regular front end. The Chevy SUV front end is better than the Silverado front end, yet the Sierra front end is better than the GMC SUV front end. I agree with Dodgefan that a Yukon with the Sierra front would be awesome.

And I agree that the Tahoe//Suburban front end looks better than the Silverado's.

I love it. I think if this became a production vehicle it would be Excursion part II, unless the only engine offering was the Duramax. Love those wheels! Those are hot!

I like the front end I wish the 2500 Burbs would get that. I hope the produce it and I hope I could get a nice mid level LT Z71 Diesel for the high 40's or low 50's. The gas savings alone would be worth it! (What could it tow?)

Wheel flares look awkward... but I love the idea of GM pumping out mass market diesels.

I'll take a duramax diesel Camaro 2-dr sedan and install 1/4 windows out of the ragtop.

looks good, i think

kinda curious how it would perform on the EPA tests....

We'll never know, because current Suburban 2500s (trucks with >8500 lb GVWR) are CAFE-exempt and aren't rated.

Did they really need to uglify it to put the diesel in?

No, but they did anyway.

I totally disagree with you guys, THis is NOT ugly, Just plain Strong Beauty. This is a Man's SUV, that can Haul anything. :D
