LORDSTOWN — The Global Gamma is coming to the General Motors Corp. Lordstown Complex for the 2010 model year, with the Global Alpha arriving for the 2011 model year, according to a union flyer issued to workers this afternoon.

The cars will replace the plant’s current Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5 small cars, which are due to end production in June 2009.

The complex then will switch to the Gamma, which is a four-door notch back, according to the flier from United Auto Workers Local 1112. The Alpha will have two body styles.

FLIER DETAILS:
Below is the synopsis of the tentative labor contract between General Motors Corp. and the United Auto Workers, according to the flyer issued Friday afternoon by UAW Local 1112 to members in the Complex’s East assembly plant:
GM committed to maintaining U.S. manufacturing base:
– Lordstown will maintain Cobalt and Pontiac G5 production through the 2009 model year. For the 2010 model year, we will build the Global Gamma four-door notch back. We will be adding a second car for the 2011 model year – the Global Alpha platform which will have two body styles.
– There will be a total moratorium on outsourcing for the length of the agreement. Additionally GM has committed to insource over 3,000 jobs back into the U.S. system.
Economic Gains
– Over the course of the 4 year agreement, the average employee will realize gains of approximately $13,000, including the $3,000 signing bonus and two 3% lump sum and one 4% lump sum raises.
Cola Protection
– The current formula negotiated in the 2005 VEBA memorandum of understanding will be maintained.
Comprehensive health care is maintained for all active employees
GM VEBA Contributions
– GM will pay $29.9 billion to pre-fund retiree health care through VEBA.
– Additionally GM will contribute $5.4 billion in pre-VEBA cost for retiree health care.
Pension
– There will be future pension increases in the new agreement and lump sum payment to current retirees.
Temporary Employees
– 3,000 temporary employees will become permanent under this agreement.
New Protections
– Improved health and safety protections including noise and chemical training, confined space and improve ergonomic programs.
Skilled Trades
– Skilled trades will receive 20 cents per hour tool allowance.
– Additonally they will receive extensive high tech training as well as the addition of 1,500 new apprentices nationwide.
New Wage and Benefit Levels for New Employees
– Details to be explained at the informational meetings
Non-Core
– Examples of non-core work include but are not limited to material movement, general stores, finished driving, paint mix, chemical management and certain sub-assemblies.
SAP
– A special nationwide attrition program has been negotiated at similar levels as the previous SAP.
– Eligibility will be discussed at the informational meetings as information becomes available.

I wouldn't assume that either the Gamma notchback or Alpha will replace either the Cobalt or G5 in the lineup, just at the Lordstown plant, if this is correct. The Gamma notchback would be the Aveo, the Alpha most probably a G6 replacement.

Yeah, the Cobalt is staying on Delta ("Delta II" to be exact). All this is saying is that Alpha and Gamma vehicles are going to be produced at Lordstown instead of Delta vehicles. It sounds like we are getting a coupe and sedan off of Alpha, I would guess it's a Pontiac. I can't see them producing a Cadillac at a rather old plant that is also going to be producing the Aveo.

XLR is in dire need of a refresh, the shape is good, but needs a new grille, better interior and more power, I hope they address that before 2012. DTS and Lucerne until 2010? They are really letting those drag out, although the G6 is worse, that car is cheap and dated now, I can't wait to see how bad it is in 2012. It'll be sad to see the SRX go, a CTS wagon is a bad idea, no one will miss the STS. I am curious to see the execution of the Alpha and Zeta cars, it is a shame they are so far away, BMW will be on their next generation 5 and 7 series by then.

And it's only going to be Astra/Cobalt . The G5 will be gone-and the HHR will be too...unless the demand makes it worth while.

And the Trucklet Twins are gone too-if they plan to continue to have a small truck-chances are they will be imported.

These last set of trucks were a disaster- people bought more used S-10s than these trucks...

regaurdless.. it is still no joke that it disrupted sales because of a poorly chosen name... it sold well in the states but south america and central america was really not the car for them...

I mean honnestly, there are plenty of bad names out there... I remember when the focus came out, everyone made fun of the name, because no one wanted to "focus" on its apperance.
