Do you have weird requests for food orders that raise eyebrows or elicit sighs from the wait staff or order takers for fast food?

Here's a couple of mine:

1. Beverage: 50/50 mix of regular Coke and Diet Coke

2. Bevarage: "easy ice," to get more content, ideally

3. Onions withheld on anything that would have them as a condiment

4. Heavy pickles, olives and tomatoes on anything that would have them as a condiment

5. Side of bleu cheese for dipping my fries (without fail at Bob's Big Boy restaurants)

Do you have any such requests (or quirks)?

I know a few people who do that with mayonnaise. Tasty, but I can't bring myself to eat something I know is that bad for me.

I don't like mustard so I request that be left off a lot of things.

I had a bad experience with ribs once - I found something attached to the inside once and all I could think was it was a piece of lung. It probably wasn't but it was enough to gross me out. I found I just have no appetite for them now. In fact any kind of presentation where it's obviously an animal I'm eating kind of grosses me out. If I had to kill and clean my own food, I'd be a vegetarian by now.

For me, this isn't a special request ... but avoidance altogether: In the last 10 years, I have probably not ordered anything with bones or scales or shells: ribs, trout, chicken wings, any kind of shellfish.

If I have to work at removing bones or scales, it takes away from the eating experience.

I have them remove any dairy. I cannot have dairy. They look at me odd when I tell them to take the cheese of the food. They also are very nice too and go out of their way so I do not get sick.

They'd have to, because if you told them no dairy and they gave you dairy and you got sick, you could sue them for it.

  • I love BBQ babyback ribs...most tender meat I've ever had.
  • I like my burgers with cheese, bacon, ketchup, and a little mustard...NOTHING else...however I do often request BBQ sauce for dipping...I like BBQ sauce a lot but I prefer to add it to the burger on a bite-by-bite basis rather than the entire thing.
  • No onions on anything except onion rings and onion blossoms and sometimes if they are finely minced, sautéed, and below with the dish.
  • I love carrots, but only fresh, cold, and uncooked...I hate boiled food except for boil eggs
  • Salt on fries
  • I can't stand meat that is fatty/tough/chewy...it seriously makes me gag. This is especially true for chicken.
  • If it's ham i prefer it deli style...cold and ultra-thinly sliced. I don't like hot, think slices of ham.
  • If it's a non-refill and/or to-go drink I prefer less eyes (same reason as bob), but if it's at a restaurant...as long as they keep up with teh refills I'm fine.

Beans...I can't handle black or pinto beans in burritos or with Mexican food in general (beans give me evil black poo). But I have no problem with white beans or beans in chili.

I always ask for very little ice also.

Bob, was Sally's eating habits from "When Harry Met Sally" patterned after yours? :P Just curious.

I'm there with you on the cooked carrots- ew!

I don't really care for boiled vegetables either. I like them roasted or raw.

That's not so odd. Unless you're from an ethnic group with a long history of milk production (whether it be cows, sheep, goats, horses, camels or reindeer), and the genetic quirk which makes it useful, then as an adult you probably can't digest dairy foods.

When ordering a Texas burger (or any burger with BBQ sauce on it), I must have slaw on the sandwich. Also true for BBQ beef, BBQ pork sandwiches too.

I hate the red sauce in burritos from Taco Bell on the rare occasion I go. :yuck:

No black beans and corn in any burrito, southwestern salad, or taco salad. :yuck:

I hate corn in soups, I pull it all out if I can. :yuck: I do like corn by itself and in cornbread.

Any sandwich without BBQ sauce on it (hamburger, cheeseburger, chicken, cold cut, etc) cannot have pickles on it. I like them by themselves but on a sammich, again, :yuck:

If I do get french fries, which is rare, I want them unsalted. Mostly I substitute a salad instead.

Oh, if there is cheese on the sandwich, then it cannot be American cheese. It must be a "real" cheese like cheddar, swiss, asiago, mozzerella, or pepper jack.

Oh man you just reminded me of the tasty tasty Jamaican corn soup I've had from a soup stand.

Guess you wouldn't like it, but it was damn good.

I do not understand what you are saying.. I read it several times. I still do not get it.

He's saying that unless your ancestors consumed lots of dairy, and therefore gained the ability to process it, you (like lots of adults) cannot digest lactose.

Yep. Those people are just genetically intolerant.

They just won't even tolerate lactose.

Stand up against the injustices of antilactites!!

I always ask them to hold the pickle slices at sandwich places..I don't like pikles. I go out for bagel breakfast sandwiches and have to be very specific about the cheese...Einstein Bagels for some reason defaults on cheddar, which is ok on hamburgers, but out of place on a breakfast bagel...I usually want Pepper Jack or Provolone.

None of those weenie flaccid pickle slices. Pickles should be long, hard and crisp, not soggy and sour. :yuck:

I am with you there. I like big firm, thick pickles. :o Vlassic rocks! I especially like them cut long ways with the ridges in them. Good for a snack. Now I'm hungry. Off to the fridge.

This explains so much about you and women! :AH-HA_wink:
