ORRANCE, California, Sep. 4, 2007 (Thomson Financial delivered by Newstex) -- Toyota Motor Corp (NYSE:TM) said its US sales fell 2.8 pct year-on-year to 233,471 vehicles in August.

The group said the Toyota division posted sales of 201,272 vehicles, down 3.7 pct from last August, although the Lexus unit reported record sales of 32,199 units, up 3.6 pct on a year ago.

No table yet, but here's the press release. Tundra DOWN over last month by ~4K units (sold 23K last month)...looks like it has finally crested.

Looks like maybe all the hype about the tundra topping the GMC was short lived. Let's hope so anyway......

Now if we could see a sustained decline for the next 20 years, we can all be happy.

toyota must have had a great summer last year...

cause this is 2 months in a row of low sales...

honda is up 4 percent...

guess there aren't really any new models except for the turd of course... and looks like it needs deeper dicounts to produce the reaction they want...

the camry and avalon are still in their first year I believe and the sales are already not as well as its predecessor... corolla not sure if its due... but the matrix is slated for 08 or 09 isn't it...?

a lot of their suv's are new or almost out and I doubt they will also be well received...

hrmm from a product stand point it looks like the steam roller is running out of steam... even the cookie cutters aren't making them all the same... with cracks in the engine bay and etc...

Nice post man. Totally agreed.

Look at scion's year-over-year tanking, esp in light of general gas prices....

this is toyota, handling too many products... someone should pat GM on the back for managing some 80 different models

LOL @ the Tundra.... $8000 rebates and still a month over month LOSS...

Oh Toyoguy................ (FOG yells into the C&G abiss)

:D

If Tundra sales continue to drop, Toyota will miss Tundra's 200k goal for the first year, even with heavy incentives. The Tundra must be costing Toyota a fortune. I can't wait until they release the Sequoia. It's sure to light up the sales chart. I wonder if they'll continue to use the same horrible redneck-sounding narrator for the Sequoia commercials... <_<

I'm confused...While I'm all for the Tundra being down, why does the sales ticker say the contrary?

TUNDRA 18,919 11,173 69.3 124,909 78,916 57.5

Sales are down from last month (July'07 Tundra Sales: 23,150)... not from last August.

Scion/Totyta totally effed up on the new xB, needs to refresh the TC, and the xd is just plain goofy.

I don't look for Scion to be around in five years. Seriously. They are the equal of a one hit wonder band (the original xB was kind of cool) but the other products leave a lot to be desired.

The TC isn't a bad car, but it is like the Tibron and is actually built on a sedan chasis. Drive a TC and a Civic Si back to back and it is no competition. Granted the SI is 3-4 thousand more, but the TC is not an actual "sports car." Lots of little things (Handleling, the way it shifts, not as smooth as a Civic or even a Cobalt, slightly awkward interior, fuel economy in the real world does not match Cobalt SS or Civic S, etc.) put it out of the class of being "desireable" IMHO.

It wouldn't take much for sales to be up over any month of 2006. The tundra had fallen to near death in 2006. As others pointed out, the sales are down, and down big over the July 2007 sales.
