FRANKFURT, Germany -- With the sale of Chrysler complete, DaimlerChrysler AG will see the symbol for its shares modified this week, the company said.

Starting Thursday, the automaker's stock ticker will be changed from DCX to DAI on the DAX-30 index of companies in Frankfurt and on the New York Stock Exchange.

On Friday, DaimlerChrysler transferred an 80.1 percent stake in Chrysler to New York-based Cerberus Capital Management LP, one of the world's largest private equity companies, in a $7.4 billion deal. The German automaker, which is to be renamed Daimler AG, retained a 19.9 percent interest in Chrysler.

The name change is expected to take effect after a shareholder meeting Oct. 4 to vote on the move.

Why not Daimler-Benz AG?

How about "We like to take over other companies under the false pretenses of merger, then suck the life out of them, keep them from achieving their full potential because we're pompous asses that don't want to be outdone, and then sell them off."

Too long I guess?

LOL if you pronounce it like a Japanese word it says "DIE"

Isn't the corporate structure different now from when they were Daimler-Benz AG? Isn't Mercedes-Benz a division within DCX just like the Chrysler Group?

Overall though, I think this is for the best. Under 'Daimler AG', they'll be able to make future acquisitions without "Benz" being directly mentioned or associated.

Goodbye, Daimler. Thanks for giving a damaged car company back to us. Chrysler was building up momentum and finally moving past their "K car" phase when you came along and totally derailed this once proud American company. I could care less what you call yourself as long as you stay far away from any more U.S. car companies.
