I am shock there is one still around. This is like finding a MonteCarlo turbo with the original engine and turbo intact.

Good find now get it to a museum before it is gone as it may be the only one left. I found a AWD 6000 STE in the junk yard a couple years ago. The car looked pretty good! I was looking at it and think it had a drive line failure andf it was not worth the money to repair. That was a shame as the interior and body looked good.

I had a landlord with a LOVE for all things GM Diesel...he has a 1982-83 Cutlass Two door diesel with T-TOPS. It is in MINT condition and I will bet the only one in existence. His brother bought it new in Florida.

Interesting..I'm not sure if I can recall ever seeing one of those.. I know they did a diesel Ciera, but how about the other A-bodies? Were there diesel Celebs and Centuries?

I had a couple friends in high school that had full-size GM diesels..one an '81 Delta 88, the other an '80 Fleetwood Brougham. I had a Ford Escort diesel (Ford supposedly used the Mazda diesel in the Lynx, Tempo, Topaz and Ranger also, never seen any, though).

I know a guy I call "Diesel Dave"... he's got over 100 diesel cars,

most of them rotting away in a big 20 acre plot in New Hampshire.

He has a Diesel Celebrity & Chevette (4-spd) just to name two.

I think mine (US model) had a 2.0L and was rated at 52hp. It got a steady 55MPG at 55MPH. I remember I really liked the steering and handling, compared favorably to a friend's VW GTI (of course, I was a teenager then, before I had discovered the joy of old-school RWD V8 cars...(I got my first 5.0 Mustang when I was 17).

Yup. No matter how much hoopla is made about V-6 getting stronger and going to replace the V-8, there is something it cannot, that is the "attitude" of a V-8 grunt.

I remember the diesel full sized GM cars. It was an Oldsmobile diesel V8 rated at 105 hp. It was 5.7 liters. It was a 350 V8. The funny thing is Pontiac used to put "5.7 Liter Diesel" V8 on the trunks of its cars. Oldsmobile had "Oldsmobile Diesel", Buick just put "diesel" on the front fenders. Cadillac put it on a plaque on the trunk. That first diesel would have worked, but it was something GM did wrong that caused it to fail.

It is funny how this whole GM diesel thing is coming full circle again.

They used a 4.3 liter diesel V6 in the A Bodies. The fwd C Bodies( 1985) used the 4.3 liter diesel V6 too. Then the diesel quietly went away after 1985.

It is coming back on Cadillac and Saturn. GM is being cautious because they got burned last time.

IIRC, Chevy briefly offered a diesel Caprice at one time also. Speaking of the Olds diesel, my buddy in high school that had the '81 Delta 88 diesel replaced the engine in '87..he and his dad put in an SBC w/ a 4bbl carby....I remember it having a tough-sounding exhaust note.

For a short time, the 81-82 Impala with this motor was called 'America's lowest priced diesel!'

C&D had a long term 1981 Grand Prix diesel, and they basically didn't like it, but didn't hate it either. It took longer to rack up miles since staffers didnt want to drive it.

Reality is these 1980's oil burners are best remembered for how not to design them!

The biggest problem with the Olds 350 diesel was that GM accounting wouldn't pay for the new tooling that would have been required to use more than the standard 10 head bolts. Though the blocks were very heavy duty (and are popular for racing when converted to gasoline for that very reason) the heads just weren't up to the 22.5:1 compression ratio with only 10 bolts.

The 3-speed automatic transmission was the only transmission with the 1982-83 A-Bodies, which also included the Chevrolet Celebrity, Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera, and the Buick Century, all of which are common sights unlike (any) 6000 these days, kind of reminiscent of the LeMans it sort of replaced-the similar Malibu, Century/Regal and Cutlass/Cutlass Supreme A/G-Body rear-drive sedans are all more common than Pontiacs. Wonder why....

Anyway, all diesels were discontinued after the 1985 model year (also a 350/5.7-liter V-8 from Oldsmobile, at about 105hp was offered on the G-Body models and full-sized B-Bodies from about 1979 and 1978 respectively). The Chevrolet Chevette's diesel, a weak, oil-burner from Isuzu displacing about 1.8 liters, was dropped after 1986 I believe (it had code Z90 attached to the CS trim level). This was never offered on the 1981-87 Pontiac T1000 clone (1000 after 1982).
