Don;t get me wrong DF79, I love AC/DC.... but they do not branch out

much beyond that stereotypical Dirty Deeds/TNT/Big Gun sound.

You may be right...but AC/DC still rocks...and is one of the better bands of the late 70's, 80's

Yeah, AC/DC rocks!

Interestingly, Metallica have been playing some AC/DC before their gigs, and they always play the riff to Let There be Rock after the last song.

EDIT - I chose this avatar because of music: It reminds me of the radiation hazard sign on Megadeth's Rust in Peace CD.

I'm listening to politicians on TV. This municipal election in Lisbon has caught my attention, even though I live in a different municipality.

SOAD still rocks for me, and unlike many of the bands you guys listen to, they don't sound like any other band. :P

There may be a reason for that :AH-HA_wink:

Well of course. Other bands all sound the same because they play music. :P

Hell, just for the fun of it...

Bands that own SOAD

U2 vs SOAD

U2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k04KzgYRKrE

SOAD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdRd3k4CIAg

U2 Wins. U2 has lyrics that can be understood, and has a real melody going for it.

Van Halen vs SOAD

VH: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8e-vgQSqNtA

SOAD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdRd3k4CIAg

Van Halen wins because it has DLR, Edward Van Halen, not to mention one hell of a memorable tune.

RUSH vs SOAD

RUSH: http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=-13...h&plindex=0

SOAD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdRd3k4CIAg

RUSH wins. No explanation necessary

Def Leppard vs SOAD

DL: http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=404...h&plindex=3

SOAD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdRd3k4CIAg

Def Leppard wins, simply because they have two albums on Rolling Stone's 500 best albums. SOAD doesn't have one. :P Speaking of 'one' , lets see SOAD's drummer use one arm. :D

Motley Crue vs SOAD

Crue: http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=-70...h&plindex=2

SOAD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdRd3k4CIAg

Crue win. Just pretend they aren't wearing what they are in the video.

RATT vs SOAD

RATT: http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=775...h&plindex=0

SOAD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdRd3k4CIAg

Weird Al Yankovic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92gsJbc4AEA

SOAD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdRd3k4CIAg

Ham on! Ham on! Ham on wholewheat! Alright!

Motley Crue??? let me check your forehead, you may have a fever :P

I just added them to try and make SOAD look good. But unfortunately, the Crue is still better. Who'd have thunk it? :P

Haha... I'd much rather listen to SOAD than most of those bands. They're all bland in comparison. You guys like to hate on bland vehicle designs, but when it comes to rock, you all listen to bland music.

I dunno. The only SOAD fan I know dropped out of high-school and is now employed at a Little Caesars, and he also still believes that Fred Durst and his band are the greatest things to happen to modern music.

That has to mean something. :P

Compared to SOAD... Yes. :P

But those bands are alright and I'm also a Metallica fan.

Kids today...theres no hope :nono:

Sebastian Bach has something to add. :P

http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=-41...h&plindex=0

LOL, great video and band. I have the first two albums...haven't heard much of Subhuman Race or Thickskin tho. I don't know if you ever visit the website Metal Sludge, but for some reason they always pick on Bach calling him "Sebitchian." Who was it he used to pick fights with back in the day, was it Vince or Brett Michaels (or maybe Axl)?
Posted

I'm not too sure. He actually seems pretty close to Axl Rose, because the two have sung together very often, and Bach has even filled in for Axl on a couple of occasions.

I think it's just his personality that's giving him that name, and even I think he is obnoxious today. Most of the rockers from back then have matured a bit, and checked their egos. But 'Baz is still being himself.

Another who needs to check his ego is Don Dokken. That guy still thinks he's headlining arenas and selling platinum records. I like the music and all, but I saw Dokken live a few years ago and Don was being such a windbag bitching about the music biz. It felt like I paid for a lecture instead of a concert. Maybe that's why he's now co-headlining outdoor music festivals.

I only own one Dokken album (Under Lock & Key) so I don't pay much attention to the guy. On the other end of the spectrum is Kip Winger. He's seems to have kept one hell of a low profile, even when promoting Winger IV.

Wha?? Winger IV?? Winger is like my fifth or sixth favorite band, why have I not heard of this...

Pull was such an under appreciated album.

Well what are you waiting for? :Phttp://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&a...10:hcfuxqtdldse

Winger IV is a great album, but it takes more time to digest. I had to listen to it a few times to really get into it. They return to a prog-tinged sound. To be honest, I think Kip sounds better now that he's gotten older, however that's subjective.

It also doesn't have any 'Seventeen' or 'Can't Get Enuff' in it. Instead, it is very serious, and deals directly with the Iraq war... not opposing it or being for it... but instead looking at it through the soldiers eyes. The toughest song for me was 'Generica' but it's now one of my favorite Winger tracks. 'Blue Suede Shoes' can send chills through your spine if in the right frame of mind.

As for Pull... I think it's a mixed bag. I love some songs, like Down Incognito, and Blind Revolution Mad, but others I think are pandering too much to the grunge crowd.

Hmm, I'll have to check it out. Looks like it was released just before I went to Italy, that's probably why I'd never heard of it.

I've always liked Pull even though it went with a darker, grungier sound. Same with Dog Eat Dog by Warrant...a lot of people didn't like the direction they took on that one but there's some really powerful stuff on there (and just as melodic as the early stuff). The song "Andy Warhol Was Right" is pretty chilling when you think of it in terms of all the school shootings going on today. A lot of other hair bands that released albums after the grunge movement took storm were pretty lame, but these two have always stood head above the rest to me.

Don't look at me... Just because everything that's been mentioned in this thread is bland in comparison to SOAD doesn't mean you have to blame my generation. Well, actually, you do, but don't lump me into that group as I don't listen to crap like Fall Out Boy, Good Charlotte, My Chemical Romance, etc that most of those my age do. :P

I was never into Megadeth for some reason....

dave mustaine is a very talented musician imo and i wonder what megadeth might have been if he really unleashed his talent instead of just trying to out-metal metallica...

That may be the very reason right there....idk.

I'm listening to the audio commentary track I just did for my Halloween message board :P

Hear About it Later - Live at Oakland '81

You know, VH could make a fair amount of change if they released some live CDs and DVDs from the pre-Sammy years. There's definitely a pent up demand for it, at least among the VH faithful.
