Daewoo is providing small car technology, know-how, and platforms.

I was under the impression that because they felt the bnoxer engine was essential for their brand identity, nothing would fit (chassis, AWD, etc.)

WTF? OF all the Japanese brands GM was afiliated wiht Subaru was by far the coolest. They should have gotten rid of Suzuki, Isuzu & Daewoo instead.

his is like selling park place in Monopoly but keeping belmont. Stupid.

Yea - But Suzuki and Daewoo are actually making money and growing global volume for them.

I know we owe Isuzu for Duramax & Atlas engines along with the Colorado. Also, I know Daewoo is S. Korean and not Japanese, but I still say Subaru is a great brand. I'm not really a Subaru Enthusiast but Irespect them for having innovative products and RWD-biased AWD in some great cars wiht boxer engines. I'd rather see Chevy/Pontiac/Saturn get Subaru Rebadges then Suzuki/Daewoo/Isuzu ones. For what it's worth my cousin in Slovakia has a late 90s Daewo and loves it he says it's superior in quality to Hyundai and Kia and has better bang-for-the-buck. EDIT: I'd also rather see SAAB cut loose than Subaru. Sad to say but it's true. Edited by Sixty8panther

Hey, I love Subey's but to sell a GM badged WRX against a Subaru badged WRX in a new vehicle market of 80,000 (New Zealand) would be mad. What product would I have available to sell instead? Also Subaru cannot supply a 1 tonne pickup (which Isuzu does very well). GM needed to buy all of Isuzu. Why? An example is that when Isuzu redesigned the latest D-Max (Holden Rodeo) they made the frames too complex. I am led to believe that every different engine / trans / body style has a different frame. If this is correct then someone should be fired on the spot! Why not just change engine / trans mounts? If the sales of GMDAT product continue to do well all over the globe then we can expect to see more $$ spent on product. Will this help - heck yes. The only question I have at the moment is 'Why can GM not get the 'global V6' into the new Magnus for launch? It sounds as though it will continue with the inline 6. :alcoholic: Edited by TKR

I am pretty sure that Saturn had a lot more to do with the Atlas engines than Isuzu. The Atlas engines are in line overhead cam engines produced by the loss foam technique which was developed and patented by Saturn. Of course a Saturn engineer was really GM engineers picked because they wore birkenstock sandals. I think it ws Evok or AH-HA who described them that way?

Ha ha ha - So true. They were an odd bunch. But I give them a lot of credit. GM still could learn a lot from there old Saturn org.
