I'm considering buying an '07 Impala SS, but have a question about the 5.3 V8's active fuel management (aka DOD). Has anyone ever had a problem with this system? If it were to somehow get stuck in 4 cylinder mode, would the car still be driveable, or would I be stranded? Thanks.

I can actually answer this question two people I know have W-Body cars with AFM (DOD) 5.3's one has a 2006 Grand Prix GXP and has not had any problem with his AFM and give him close to 30mpg on the highway (at 75). He has been very happy with it and loves his GXP. Some I know also purchased a 2007 Impala SS under my advisement because it was a good car. They love it and enjoy the power the V8 offers they are getting about 30 with theres although they don't drive as fast as the GXP owner I know. I can honestly say to this point neither of those families have had any trouble with the AFM system. It actually is pretty simple. Good luck happy shopping! Get an SS!
