The G6 is just getting more pathetic by year. (Distinctive) Options just keeps on going off the list each year. So what next? The whole care gone? Signal it's dying? How can they get rid of the panoramic roof and give it to only the Aura?!

:nono:

Posted

That said, how many people have ordered the panaramic roof? How many complained about it afterwards? Bet its a ratio close enough (and low enough overall) to ditch the option.

Posted

Actually, just a thought. Could this be an indication that this generation of the G6 is about to die off and replaced with a new one? Looking at the timeline, when the Malibu came out in MY2004, the G6 followed in MY2005. Now that the Malibu's new for MY2008, could the NG G6 be MY2009?

From what I observe, cars slated to die tends to have earlier info release on the guide.

I'm sure that NO GM car will have this awful roof. If they dare allow the AURA to roll off the assembly line with that roof, they can kiss the Saturn customer good-will goodbye. That roof was a good idea but executed horribly. 19 months left with it, and can't wait to get rid of it. The best move that GM could have done for this car.

Believe it or not, at least half of the G6 GTs in NJ had the Panor roof when we were looking for one. It was not hard to find one here. Every time one comes into the gas station my dad works at and he always asks if they are having a problem - no one is every happy with it - from the terrible noises to leaks, this roof was a BIG MISTAKE.

Could it be worse than the Vti transmission that Saturn Vue owners got $h! on with?

Now the G6 sedan joins the coupe with no bodyside moldings, a total dumb ass move. This is just an excuse for GM to make more profit on the car by charging some rediculous $1200 or more with it bundled in an option package with things the customer doesn't want. The coupe doesn't even offer the molding as an option and looks all the more plain and bland as a result. Dumping the silly Panoramic roof was the only smart thing they did for 2008.

I guess I must be the only person who's never had a problem with the panoramic roof. I love it!

Shame that GTP is going away, the GXP is one of the most awful things I've seen out of Pontiac for years. Oh well, at least I managed to grab the 3.6L/6-speed in the one year that it wasn't in a horrendously ugly package.

Actually the moulding was a welcome change. I've heard from a lot of owners that they wanted to get rid of it.

I'm fine with either. The original concept didn't have mouldings anyways.

So what models are left? GXP & GTP?
Posted

It makes no sense to me that they would kill off the Grand Prix GT, and not the GXP. Grand Prix GT would still have a place in the 2008 model year, a supercharged V6 provides a nice amount of power without V8 mileage. But the GXP? Who the heck is going to want a FWD 303hp V8 sedan when the G8 GT is expected to roll in mid-year with a RWD 362hp V8? Not to mention a 6-speed automatic or manual option as opposed to being stuck with an ancient 4-speed.

G6 GXP and Torrent GXP are also jokes. What Pontiac is calling "high performance", I think is at best above average. With my GTP making 252hp, there was no reason the "high performance" GXP couldn't do better.

I understand that the panoramic roof is gone from the option list for the Aura already (MY 2007) so it is gone on all Epsilon based cars. Too bad, seemed cool, but I was wondering how well it would seal glass pane - to - glass pane.

I would have loved to get it but to the the Pano, one had to get leather as well and it was cost-prohibitive.

I will say this ALOT of GT's in 2006-2007 have gone to fleets, aka Hertz and Avus... Seriously I liked the GT's they are a heck of a bargian add those features on a base GP and your are talking about an extra 500 bucks so why not get the blower?

I have yet to hear anyone complain about getting rid of side door protection. In fact customers have been bitching up a storm at my local Toyota and Pontiac dealer about the lack of bodyside moldings on the new 07 Camry, Avalon and Rav4 and the G6 and G5 coupe. Yahoo and Edmunds consumer ratings often site this as a complaint. It got to the point that Toyota reinstated the option on the said 3 cars as a $195.00 option and 75% of the vehicles being ordered are coming this way. And 9 out of 10 G5 coupes are being ordered with the package that contains the moldings while the G6 coupes can't be ordered with them at all and sit languishing on the lot. People that didn't get the protection are going to be really ticked when they see all the dents, dings and scrapes all along the side of the car when it's time to trade and a chunk of change is deducted for bodywork. I have already seen 05-07 Monte Carlos, Avalons, Bimmers etc on used car lots that look like total $h! when you get a side view of the car which makes them so much desirable in the descriminating customers eyes when picking out a clean car. And when I look at a car, I want to see something other than a huge slab of plain looking sheetmetal, something needs to break up the endless slab of blah!

Posted
Protective bodyside moldings that fit a car's design should be an inexpensive option on all vehicles. Some like them, some don't. For those of us who won't buy a vehicle without them, they should be available.
Posted

I guess at this point it doesn't really matter. I still have a feeling that's just a sign that the current gen G6 is coming to EOL.

Isn't the new Malibu getting panoramic as well?

Yes, I don't know what I would do without body-side moldings. Oh wait... My car doesn't have them. But it's 12 years old, has been though 172k miles, and spent the first half of its life as a city car... It has all sorts of dents, dings, and scrapes. Huh? Oh... No... It doesn't. Whoops. But, I wish mine had them anyways. They really add an upscale look to cars... sort of like ribbed cladding and spoilers. Wait, that's not classy... and 90% of the time, vehicles look much better without it. Huh...

For those that don't like body side molding, it's a bitch to get off. If you want body side moldings, put it on yourself. Buy some rubber, buy some adhesive, and have fun. I even made a chop. :D

Not sure, but the panoramic roof design used in the G6 and Aura is dead. Any cars that get an "extended" sunroof from now on are probably getting the one on the CTS that is nothing but a normal sunroof with a fixed glass pane behind it for extra view. It doesn't even open.

Ewww! Must find better example to erase ugliness from mind!

Thats better.

That being said my wife dinged my MC w/ her Malibu yesterday. I pulled in her car next to mine w/ enough room to go to the second hold notch. Get out and go to the trunk to get the groceries out. [bANG] Me: "What happened?" Her: "Oh, nothing." I stop what I was doing and go look. She must have kicked the rear driver's side door open or something because she hit my car had enough to scratch off a small nick of paint! Not just a tiny ding or a scratch, but down to the PRIMER!

That being said the MC has mouldings but since it was with the rear door it was above the protection line. I would preffer to have mouldings on my next car but it isn't 100% a must have.

Wasn't the vibe supposed to be upgraded, I recall seeing camo pics of it, but don't recall if it was for 08 or 09. I can't look in NUMMI's computer system because it's a Toyota system and it's one of the few I don't have access to. :Toyota:
