Never Heard That Excuse

A fellow bought a new Corvette and was out on an interstate for a nice evening drive. The top was down, the breeze was blowing through what was left of his hair, and he decided to open her up. As the needle jumped up to 80 mph he suddenly saw a flashing red and blue light behind him.

"There ain't no way they can catch a Corvette," he thought to himself and opened her up further. The needle hit 90, 100, 130 and finally 150 with the light still behind him. "What the hell am I doing?" he finally thought and pulled over.

The cop came up to him, took his license without a word, and examined it and the car. "I've had a tough shift and this is my last pull over. I don't particularly feel like doing more paperwork, so if you can give me an excuse for your driving that I haven't heard before, you can go."

"Last week my wife ran off with a cop," the man said, "and I was afraid you were trying to give her back."

"Off you go," said the officer.

note: I posted this in a Corvette forum and got some real animosity about being a Newbie.

So, if it is old and you've heard it before, sorry.

I couldn't believe the hardcore bashing. It really is funny in a sad sort of way.

The sad part is that is makes it easy to understand why sometimes people view Corvette owners as snobs and jerks. Heck, I got asked at work when I was going to turn into a prick. :D

Oh well, I have enough to do and enough places to hang out without that forum.

Disclaimer: I do not think of Corvette owners as jerks.

What forum was was that? I sometimes visit Digital Corvettes, and on the whole it doesn't seem to be too harsh a place.

As far as the joke goes, I didn't take it as being directed towards Corvette owners.

Sadly, I've found that a lot of the classic Corvette owners are very rude and condescending. It's all about "My Corvette is worth more than yours" or "My Corvette is faster than yours". They treasure the car more for its value or collectibility than the fact that it's a Corvette. I'm one of the few classic Corvette owners that doesn't care about that stuff. I'm only building mine with "original" date-correct components because it's probably what's best for the car. I'm just glad I've finally been able to live out a dream of mine.

The animosity was for the joke being old. Personally, I still think it is funny. My wife, though, said that she wouldn't run off with a cop, just the Vette. :o

The sad thing is that there are some very cool people on the site and a lot of good information there as well. Just some people enjoy ridiculing others for sport. Those are the ones who make the others look bad. On the other hand, the Corvette wave seems to be alive and well here in Western Washington and the guys at Corvette & High Performance in Olympia are some of the coolest people I know.

BTW, I love the C3 convertible in your sig. What year is it? (Forgive me if you've told us many times-I'm blonde and seem to be representing that fact a lot lately). My brother has a 71 and his son a 77 (both at coupes though).

It's a '68, like mine. Mine is going to be that exact color - silverstone silver with a gunmetal interior. The only difference between that one and my car will be that mine will have the big block hood, and I might spring for the red-line tires.

Ahhh, 1st year of the C3. that is a beautiful color. I've always been partial to silvers and blues.

Hmmm, maybe that explains why my Vette is blue and my 67 C-10 is blue/gray.
