Toyota to build a new plant in Mississippi

Japanese automaker needs capacity to keep up with high demand

Toyota to build 8th US factory by 2010

Toyota Motor Corp. said Tuesday it will build a $1.3 billion assembly plant in northeast Mississippi to manufacture its Highlander sport utility vehicle.

Production is set to begin by 2010 and employment is projected at 2,000. The company said it expects to build 150,000 vehicles a year.

“Toyota is the world’s premiere auto manufacturer and our state will be the best partner the company has,” Gov. Haley Barbour said in prepared remarks.

Instead of "invading" from the coasts they planted in the middle and are spreading outward. Diabolical.

Imagine the kids growing up in Mississippi knowing the two factories building cars in their hometown used to be foreign.

That is a reality check.

nice map from toyota.com. They claim 14 plants but everywhere else its reported as seven

with this new one making it 8.

That 14 includes engine plants, etc... i.e. plants where they don't do final assembly.
