January 2007, General Motors of Canada dealers delivered 22,640 units, off 1.3% versus the same month last year.

“The real story for us in January was solid growth on the retail side of the business” said Marc Comeau, vice president General Motors of Canada vehicle sales service marketing. “GM Canada’s retail sales were up 31.4% with trucks sales up 44.3% and cars up 16.9%. As we continue to stay the course with our strategy to focus on the quality and durability of our products and reduce our reliance on daily rental sales, our retail performance is a strong indicator of consumer acceptance for our products, including a significant number of recently launched cars and trucks”.

“Saturn sales were up 30% on the strength of our all-new product line-up, including the Aura and Outlook. Our Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pick ups saw double digit growth, with combined sales up 73.6%. Comeau added, “We had gains in the small car segment, with the Chevrolet Cobalt up 15.3% and Pontiac Vibe up 37.7%, both on the strength of their retail sales performance.

Comeau concluded “I am encouraged by our January numbers and the strength of our recently launched products. The Saturn Aura and Chevrolet Silverado swept Car and Truck of the Year at the North American International Auto Show, beating out a number of import and domestic competitors. The Cadillac CTS was honoured with “Best in Show”. GM has also committed to produce more than 12 hybrid versions of our most popular cars and trucks. Look for hybrid versions of the Saturn Aura, Chevrolet Malibu, Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon to be launched this year.
