Well, I'm not sure if I've mentioned this, but I'm pledging for the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Anyway, the point of the thread is that a couple of us pledge brothers have spoken to current brothers of the house and we're going to try to get a project car.. an old school muscle car to fix up as a "just for fun" type of project.

So, give me some crazy suggestions!

Probably the best cars will be the ones that are popular enough to have parts reproduced for them, but not so popular that they break the bank. I really like the idea of doing up a truck for this project - how about a classic Blazer with the full lift-off roof?

'67-'69 Firebird

Much cheaper to buy than a Camaro, but have many parts in common and have real value when done. Plus PHS can tell you exactly how irt came from the factory. I've considered this project many times over the last few years.

Ooo, that '73 Firebird Esprit Viper linked to would be a good choice. I'd restore that to original with PHS' help, if the money is there.

You didn't mention your budget..?.. just watch for a cheap V-8 car on craig's list....

I check every day, some people just want the car gone! even free cars.

There are a ton of project cars that people give up on...

Then buy an engine...now is the perfect time of year to buy good parts really cheap

especially in Michigan

heres another: add big V-8 and burn rubber

Ummm what's a TRUE muscle car in your mind?

some cars came from the factory with muscle (big $ now, tho)

some you can add your own muscle for cheap

haha No, no.. we're looking for a 60s-70s car.

Believe me, I thought about donating my dad's '90 Cavalier to make it into something unexpected..

Cool idea, Northie..

Actually, I think we might've already found something. One of the guys has a '71 Mustang that's in really rough shape that we might take in and give a home...

Well excuse me... you're just too cool for school! :P

How about this:

with a 327 & hilborne injection, an M22 & gear vendors rear.

:puke:

A '71 Mustang? It's so ugly I'm not sure it's worth the time and effort.

I don't think they're that bad:

The overhangs are a bit much, but in the right color scheme this could be a pretty nice car. I put it higher on my personal scale than the 05+ Mustang. I'd love to see you guys follow the "Bodied by Ford, Powered by Chevy" mantra and stick a nice big block in there

True muscle cars, please.

Well there goes my suggestion of a `92 Century.

That's the first thing I suggested.. swap out the 351 for a 350 SBC...

:withstupid: But whatever... Go with an ugly little Mustang... Your loss. :D

If you must do a Mustang, make one like this:

That's one of the few Fords I would like to own. I may try to restore a '67 or '68 fastback and install the Eleanor body kit someday, if I have the money and time. I seriously don't know if there's another old American car I'd rather have than an Eleanor clone.

I think Elanor is pretty cool but way too RICEY!

As far as 1971 Mustangs they looks cheesy. It's almost as if the Japanese

had tried to make a full size ripoff of the original Mustang. I'd rather have

a 1971 Datsun 240Z or a 1974 Toyota Celica Hardtop than a 1971 'Stang.

But that being said at least it's a hardtop and besides, any '71 Mustang is

a dowright beauty next to a '74-up Mustang II. :puke:

Datsun 411 wagon! :D

This is as close to a "RAT ROD" as I can find while still meeting your requirements.

350 small block, no bmupers, beat to $h! body, racing seats... it's perfect. :AH-HA_wink:

I don't know. I like their front end, but not the rear end. At all. But, hey, it's free. :AH-HA_wink:

Rusty cars are a pain in the ass. Crunchy body mounts, suspension components, etc,...

All spell disaster. Take the advice of those who have worked on lots of projects....

Start with a solid body and chassis-trust me- or you'll hate yourself later.

Also, you can build up a small block Chevy V-8 for almost half what you'd spend on Ford engine parts

That is one of the luckiest kids on the continent.

If it's for a bunch of frat boys then obviously there's never not going to be an obscene amount of people piled inside of it, so get a cool old wagon. Any mid 60's-1972 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser, Pontiac Bonneville, Chevrolet Kingswood Estate, etc.

I can't tell you how many times I wish I could come across a modestly priced and solid '70-'72 Buick Skylark Sport Wagon to build a GS Stage 1 455 for and do it over in Saturn Yellow with a black interior; it would be my Buick GSXpress Wagon! A guy from the Pontiac Historical Society collected enough factory original parts over the years to build himself a '70 GTO Judge wagon, which is what made me think of the Buick. You guys need to make a muscle version of a wagon.

After watching Gone In 60 Seconds, again, last night... I will have to agree. I love those. Possibly the only Mustang I'd bother with.
