I have been to one of these before and had a great time.

If you are in the area go! Scott throws great get togethers.

This isn't the usual get-together (I have been to those and you are right-great time), this is a media day event.

I am bummed as it is my busy time at work, 401k compliance deadlines stink sometimes! I will go to the Auto Show to see Camaro and Malibu but will miss this awesome event.

Anyone else going?

Bob,

I just registered on the site and signed me & the wife up. This will be a great event! I went to the GM sponsored event for dealers back in 2000 - breakfast was great, the slideshow of upcoming models was great, and having the show from 8:00 - 10:00 AM with no public was great too. This was back when I worked at the B-P-G dealership; the sales manager took me because he knew what kind of car nut I am!!!

I hope that if we're able to go, we could meet up at some point - bring that new '04 GTO/Ute with you! :AH-HA_wink:

I wish I could go... :(

I was not speaking of the after hours deal. What I speak of was a media event before a show opened that I attended last year. The Philly event looks like they are taking this to the next level though.

They put us on TV with the 09 Concept. But we did not get Welborn or Bob Jovi!

I'm in!

And very willing to also meet up with anyone else here who goes, as long as I do make it. Should be a killer morning

Night before my wedding.... otherwise I'd be in!

May be you need to move your bachelor's party there. Better to have a Camaro orgy than oggling around a 2-cent stripper. Congrats man.

The schedule has been posted on the main Philly Auto Show site, and holy wow is this ever going to be a fun day!

------------------------------------------------

8:45am – Media check-in opens

9:00am – Breakfast sponsored by GM

9:50am – Introduction from Auto Show Chairman Scott Lustgarten

10:00am – Saturn Press Conference featuring Jon Bon Jovi/Philadelphia Soul Foundation

10:45am – Chevy Press Conference featuring the Camaro Concept and GM’s Chief of Design Ed Welburn

11:15am – Subaru Press Conference featuring local coaches involved in the American Cancer Society’s Philadelphia Coaches vs. Cancer Program

11:45am – Ford Press Briefing featuring Patrick Schiavone, Design Director – Trucks for Ford's North America operations

*Ford will sponsor a lunch for all media members following Patrick’s briefing.

More details on each press conference, as well as other highlights of the day, are below.

At 10:00a.m., Saturn General Manager Jill Lajdziak and award winning musician and Philadelphia Soul Owner and Founder Jon Bon Jovi, will unveil a very special Saturn Aura that the company will donate to the Philadelphia Soul Foundation for Project H.O.M.E. This one-of-a-kind version of the North American Car of the Year will be displayed during Philadelphia Soul home games and raffled at the end of the season to provide affordable housing in the area.

Attendees will then be escorted to Chevrolet’s display for a one-of-kind event. At 10:45a.m., GM’s Chief of Design, Ed Welburn, will officially introduce the ever-popular Camaro concept to Philadelphia by driving it right onto its spot on the showfloor! Over 250 Chevy enthusiasts will be there cheering him on as he revs the engine of this famous concept. In addition, Ed’s very own 1969 Camaro will be on-site, providing a visual like no other!

Next, Subaru, Delaware Valley’s only hometown car company will again host a special event at this year’s Philadelphia International Auto Show. Subaru is the official automotive sponsor of The American Cancer Society’s Philadelphia Coaches vs. Cancer program. Basketball coaches representing Philadelphia’s Division I schools will be on hand to compete in a “Shootout” to support this outstanding program that raises awareness and funds for American Cancer Society research, advocacy, education, and patient services programs. In addition to the company’s long-time support of the local program, Subaru will be donating $100 for every free throw each coach can sink in a one minute challenge at the Auto Show. Coaches that will be on-site include Temple’s Fran Dunphy, St. Joe’s Phil Martelli, LaSalle’s John Giannini and Villanova’s Jay Wright. Don’t miss the live action as the coaches go head-to-head for a great cause!

Ford’s Patrick Schiavone is next on the agenda. He will host a press briefing and speak about the key vehicles on the Ford stand at 11:45a.m. Patrick is Design Director – Trucks for Ford's North America operations. He is responsible for developing and executing the design strategy for all North American trucks, sport utility and crossover utility vehicles for Ford, Lincoln and Mercury. He was appointed to the position May 1, 2006. Seventy percent of Ford's product portfolio will be new or significantly updated by the end of calendar year 2008. That said, media members, this is one briefing you won’t want to miss! A light lunch, sponsored by Ford, will follow Patrick’s update.

Attendees will then be invited to roam the floors of the Pennsylvania Convention Center to get their sneak peek at the more than 700 vehicles on display. The show floor will remain open until 2:00p.m. Product specialists will be at each display to answer your questions and provide additional information. It’s a great opportunity to conduct exclusive interviews without the crowds. Additional highlights of the day include:

Lexus representatives will be on-site to show you how the Lexus LS parks itself! This feature has received a great deal of buzz over the last few months and we encourage you to come and see what it’s all about—right inside the Pennsylvania Convention Center!

Further, area Chevy dealers will line the streets around the Pennsylvania Convention Center with dozens and dozens of brand new Silverados before taking them to the floors of their dealerships! Last year, we called this the “Chevy Tahoe Drive-Away” and for those who saw it, you know it’s quite an event to witness!

Dag gone it, I've been planning to come down for the show, but I've come down with some kind of cold in the last couple of days. If I miraculously recover in time for the weekend, I'd like to attend.

Hopefully some of you can meet up on the weekend, and I'm looking forward to meeting one or two C&G people tomorrow while there.

Also going to try and be the first person back to post pictures and videos...

Whoever wants to take pictures and video, let me know ASAP so we can get them up on the frontpage as soon as you upload them!

I know we all will, but I have a feeling I'll be the first to upload & post, because of how close I'm located and how early I'll get back. I'll let you know...

Well, I'm back.

Really, really fun event, especially with the getting in free part and being able to explore as usual but without very many people around.

Everyone had cameras, and on my part, most of my stuff came out either blurry or just from a bad angle. NOTE TO SELF: If going to an event like this, don't use it as a time to try out a new camera...

Regardless, here they are. First pictures:

And some really crappy videos (with huge file sizes)--still uploading, and I'll try and compress & re-upload later:

It was great to meet Camino, Black and Blue Landscaper, and BatmanVW at the show, even if it was only for a small amount of time. It's really nice to finally put faces (and some personality) to the names here. I'm sorry I missed you caddycruiser... it looks like we weren't far from each other at the Saturn press event (I already looked at your photos & videos). It would have been nice to go over the Acadia on the floor there to see if it had the same issues as the one at your dealer did.

I took my regular SLR 35mm with me, as I forgot to charge up the batteries for my digital camera the night before. Big mistake, as most of my pictures came out "blurry" or "fuzzy". That's sad too, as there were hardly any people around to get in the way :( Tomorrow the wife and I are going with another couple to the show - they've never been before and asked to join us. I'll make sure I charge up the batteries tonight for the digital camera this time! :P

Anyway, here's a link to my photobucket account of some of what I shot today: http://s19.photobucket.com/albums/b194/GMg...2007/?start=all

The Saturn SKY Redline that was on display was Silver Graphite (same as mine) and had the Black & Red leather -- which is how I originally placed my order, but for it to be accepted, I had to go with the all black (that option was constrained at the time). This was the first time I saw that color combo in person, and while I don't regret my decision, I do like the black & red leather with the Silver Graphite!!!

Yeah, it's a shame we didn't meet! I was in an exploration kind of mood and didn't really chat much. Oh well...it was still really fun.

The best part, for me at least, was being able to roam around and check out everything without fighting the massive crowds like I'm used to on a Saturday or such.

Too bad about your camera! Actually, every year, I always think I'm going to have these great photo opportunities, then I realize when I'm there I just want to look at stuff and have no need for pictures of anything--but I tried this time, since it was special.

P.S., I think you need to check the settings on your Photobucket account so it's Public, because right now it asks for a password (common error, due to a checkbox kind of thing).
