U.S. Buyers Get Version of Spicy Subaru Spec.B
Date Posted 09-21-2005

CHERRY HILL, N.J. -- The Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT spec.B, now available only in Japan and Europe, will make its U.S. debut for the 2006 model year, with features the company says are tailored for American tastes.

The all-wheel-drive car is equipped with a 2.5-liter, intercooled, turbo Boxer engine that produces 250 horsepower and 250 pounds-feet of torque. It is mated to a five-speed manual transmission.

The U.S. model comes in an exclusive titanium-silver metallic exterior paint. The spec.B has side ground-effects moldings with chrome trim; 18-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels; and low-profile performance tires. The car also comes with a Bilstein sport suspension.

In the cabin, the spec.B is outfitted with brick-red leather upholstery, aluminum-alloy pedal covers, a three-spoke Momo leather-wrapped steering wheel, spec.B floor mats and a numbered, limited-edition plaque. Other standard features include a new Subaru navigation system, upgraded audio with MP3 capability and side airbag curtains.

The U.S. car will go on sale Oct. 1. Subaru told Inside Line that pricing will not be finalized until next week.
