Impressive, Camry outsold the Accord by over 10k units this month.

The Corolla is outselling the Accord as well.

The Corolla numbers always include the Matrix so its probably not out selling the Accord. I don't know why they never list the Matrix on its own. Wonder how long it will be until Toyota passes GM in the U.S. never mind globally. Edited by I hope GMRULES again

Like the others have said, fleet sales make up for a fair share of both Camry and Corolla sales.

Also, based on the sales reported to www.fleet-central.com for the middle of this year, Matrix sales account for about 18% of Corolla sales.

So it's more like 22,152. But then again the Corolla doesn't have a coupe. Also, according to their info, assuming it is still valid being a number of months old, 12.8% of Corolla sales are to fleets. So that number will be around 19,270 total sold to retail customers.

The Camry is also at 12.8% fleet sales, which puts it right at 30,000 for this month.

It's still beating the Accord by 8,000 units for this month to retail customers. I'm not surprised, the Accord is old. That's like beating up your grandpa in a boxing match, and then gloating about it :AH-HA_wink:

Do you ever get this feeling they are picking up on the fleet sales that GM is down on? Think about it. If your push is to be the biggest, you look for sales anywhere you can get it.

For sure, the big 3 are backing off on fleet sales so somebody has to pick up the slack.

Toyota is probably run by people who are smart enough to not practically give cars away to get fleet sales, keeping their profits and resale values in tact.

I made this same comment a few month back on another forum, and was chastised for such a comment about toyota.

The Corolla and Camry were at 15.9% and 14.0% last mid-year, so based off these numbers, they have reduced their fleet sales. The Civic and Accord are also down a couple percent from last year. I think the Korean makes may be filling in the holes, as they are ramping up production. After all, they don't seem to care about selling their cars dirt cheap. :AH-HA_wink:

If Toyota fleet sales are up profit margins would be down, the opposite is the case.

The key component to fleet sales is %....I think Hyundai is putting 1/3 Sonatas to fleet, Toyota is putting 10% of Camry's....Ford has been runnning an entire plant to Fleet (Taurus)...100% isn't a very good figure.

Fleet has been used by GM & Ford like DCX uses the sales bank vehicles...many are back being 'remarketed' by the manufacturer in as little as 3 months time....

Toyota cannot get vehicles to stores in a quick enough time frame. (I know, my organization owns a Toyota franchise.) Fleet may be used to maximize production efficiencies, but I don't believe that Toyota needs to do it, whereas the big 2.5 absolutely must.

Your figures are pretty close to the last firm numbers I saw from a few months ago that pegged Sonata rental (just rental, not other fleet) sales at 48-49% and Camry at 15-18%.

Not necessarily. All the fleet sales do is make the cost per part for Toyota less, making the profit for retail sales more. Since there are so many more retail than fleet sales, the extra profit made on the retail sales probably makes the profit margin more as there isn't that great of a percentage of fleet sales.

First off fleet sales are not bad if there is a true demand for it.

Good example of that are Ford selling CVs for police conversions. There is a true demand and ford has the product to fill it.

The problem is particularly for the Big 3, when it is cheaper (lose less money) to fleet the vehicles to Rental Agencies because closing plant is not cost effective because of labor agreements and cutting the cost of labor is not an option.

Not long....

We all knew this was coming, the writing has been on the wall since the 2001 press push against Detroit.

What's even funnier is that I bet it will be CELEBRATED when it happens.
