Christmas shopping

I used to be awful to shop for at Christmas time. I'd draft lists that were 50 items long, some with parts a, b, and c. I'd color-code and prioritize them to show my parents exactly what I wanted, and in what order.

Now, all I ask for is money. Money lets me get what I want without going through parental unit approval.

I've found with age that people start wanting & asking for less, but still want something. Other than a few collectible items (like certain Hallmark ornaments), there's not much I really lust for. Being the only car-nut in the family, it's not like I can be surprised with much (like I expect my wife, mother or sister to find an old GMC item that I'd appreciate!). Cash and gift cards seem to work the best for me anymore. Add to the fact that my birthday is on the 23rd of December, I can't anymore make up a list to cover both events (boy I miss being 7 years old with a 3-page list of Tonka, old Kenner Star Wars, Matchbox/Hot Wheels, and GI Joe toys!).

My big thing is an iPod, black, with extended warranty and FM transmitter/car adapter. It sucks that I have to follow the crowd and get an iPod instead of a different MP3 make/model but I have read tons of reviews and it comes out on top in almost every one. It's odd that no one, even Microsoft, can build something better.

Other than the iPod I have a list of CDs and books. I remember looking through the JCPenney Christmas book when it came each year and circling what I wanted. For the past few years the Christmas tree has been pretty bare because there are no huge toys underneath it.

My Christmas shopping was done entirely online this year. I guess it doesn't hurt to only have my parents to buy for. They're getting clothes - someone needs to keep them looking stylish.

I felt the same exact way. I started using iTunes for podcasts before I had an iPod and it was so easy, I had to break down and actually buy an iPod (white Nano 4 gig). I looked at others, but couldn't find a reason not to buy an iPod other than "everyone else has one".

I'm getting an XBox 360 with Gears of War and Dead Rising. If we run into a Nintendo Wii before the holiday, I'll pick up one of those for myself too. I want a Cold Air Intake for the Malibu MAXX SS, but no one has the one that I want in stock. I hope that there are more performance parts coming for the 3900 soon. It's a dry market out there.
