Guys, I'm not looking for sympathy from anyone, simply wanna say "goodbye" to all my friends on here that I've truly enjoyed bantering with for the last few years......

I was recently "warned" when I responded in a recent thread to what I consider a personal attack from a certain member on the site.

Now mind you....I didn't use any foul language and didn't call this individual any nasty names....but I responded firmly so that he would know how I felt about his posts that were directed at me.

I was "warned" for that.

Unfortunately, it was a thread that all of us were having a really good time contributing to....and someone had to come on the thread and attack me because of their either dislike for me, or their inability to be able to deal with the topic that was being discussed in that thread.

Maybe I'm being over-dramatic....but I'm done with the attacks from this individual and I simply won't accept being "warned" for my response to him. Especially since I wasn't being argumentative in the thread in the first place.

I've truly enjoyed the time I've spent on here and I know my overly-candid criticism of GM hasn't won me the best of friends on here, but I want all of you to know, even the ones I've disagreed with the most, that you all always made me think a bit harder about the automotive market in general and you all have always engaged me in truly enjoyable ways.

Maybe I'll revisit the site down the road.....I'll see. I just need a break now. There's alot of GREAT people on this site and I wish you ALL the best.

If anyone wants to keep in touch from time-to-time, I can be reached at [email protected]

Cheers! (and gears)

Chris

Hate to see you go, Chris, being that you're a So. Cal. person "by annexation"! The thread's back and forth started getting boring and off-track, so I didn't follow it. It's unfortunate that debates over sexuality seem to polarize people on this site whereas it's religion and politics in other settings. I am sure you know that you, and anyone else departing the site for whatever reason, is always welcome to return. Also, people's lives seem to run in chapters and maybe this is one that is on the verge of closing for you.

Whatever you decide, I wish you well.

Robert.

Honestly, I think you played into (the person in question that I think we all know who)'s hand by leaving the site. I think you just have to either block his statements or report him for his inflamatory remarks. Sure, that means you have to adjust your life to avoid his remarks but sometimes you have to fight for what you believe in.. even if others don't agree.

Who cares what other people think. Just ignore them and they lose interest in attacking you.

yeah thats a shame. no reason to runaway though. innocent people

Chris,

You have PM.

This may be a little of an overreaction on your behalf. Please stay. I had not followed any of your disputes with other members, but if this is just concerning last night, it is clearly an overreaction.

If you were to get a warning for rolling a stop sign, would you move from your state? :AH-HA_wink:

fixed, better analogy.

was the other guy warned?

I say don't go as well. There are too many interesting people on this site to drop it for one person you can't stand. I highly recommend the "user ignore" feature.

Posted

I wouldn't want you to leave, though I could always reach you through Myspace if I wanted.

As far as what happened last night, I don't agree with you getting a warning either. Quite frankly, I think we're all sick of this certain other member. He can't respect others or their opinions and he's just an overall asshole. If he doesnt get suspended or banned over this, considering his past isn't exactly innocent in the first place, then... that's f@#ked up.

OC, I think you were prolly warned for perpetuating an argument after Z very firmly told everyone not to. If you want to go the martyr route and queen out and leave over a warning, then that is your prerogative...but writing a post that is all :hissyfit: ? Please, you're above that.

Let's call a spade a spade.

Razor is an intolerant asshole.

213833[/snapback]

Okay, but saying things like that is probably going to get you warned as well.

I have to admit, I was extremely offended last night... still am.

I hate the fact that gay people have pride parades and are in your face about it, but in a way, I understand why. But I think I can understand only because of all the hiding I had to do myself. I don't choose to participate in the parades, nor do I throw my sexuality in anyone's face, but that's just because I don't feel that's necessary for me.

But when I hear that people get sick to their stomachs about something I have absolutely no control over, it really upsets me. And the way it was presented I felt was rude and uncalled for.

O.C., wouldn't want to see you go. You could do what I do, which is often choose to take a back seat and watch some ignorant people post, and not get involved, nor excited over it. Last night I had difficulty staying silent, but for the most part I did.

Hope you change your mind and don't leave.

technically, he could have been writing his post prior to the Z-warning and thus never saw it.

I have no problem with that.

Razorsedge is an asshole.

I will not support racism or any other bigotry no matter what my personal opinion is of the subject matter.

You mean that The OC started writing his post PRIOR to Z's post at 5:40pm? Because he posted it at 7:09pm and it seems quite unlikely he's that slow of a typer.

Wait wait wait... so now you're turning this into a gay thread about animals that you want to sleep with? :P

I hate to say this, cause I hate the phrase, but "Can't we all just get a long?"

Wow, I almost hate myself for writing that. LOL

I don't know what happened here last night, but I'm sorry to see you leave OC. I can understand your feelings, but I hope you would reconsider, or at least I hope we will still see you around in time.

I find there is way too much drama on this forum. While I think it is great that we are like a tight knit forum "family", I feel it holds the forums back in many ways.

Certain members contibute to that more than others. You pretty much know who you are.

This is being dealt with on an administrative level.

That's about all on that.

I never even clicked onto the thread in question until after this thread, but after reading through it (and not being offended at all) I feel O.C. got the short end of the stick. Razor was being extremely argumentative and it can be hard to let someone else have the last word, specially in an argument over a topic such as that one. I hope O.C. comes back after he's had some time to forget about it, it is just the Internet after all, can't let anything get to you personally.

Here's an idea. There should be a feature that allows the mods to restrict select user's access to a thread, that way the thread could live on but without the argument catalyst. Not sure how well it would work, I wonder if any forums have implemented a feature like that.

They have one. It's called the "ban" feature.

I think he means per thread basis. Currently the ban is on the whole forum.

I know what he meant. But ill will isn't contained in just one thread.

The picture of the meerkats is disgusting. While the one in the middle is demurely covering up his little doodads, the other two are acting like porn stars. Deeply offensive. :nono:

i know exactly what youre saying. my friends had a pug named walter and he would just sit down on the other side of the room with his junk hanging out there for everyone to see. disgusting. a real pervert. i dont know what he was trying to do sitting there like that.

animals are just like people. some are just jerks.

not walter though. hes a great little dog. he just didnt know any better.

if you cant get your ideas beliefs opinions and values to gel in a way to

allow intelligent and constructive conversation you have more work to get done.

its good to be opinionated but not at the expense of others. unless its a real danger and this certainly is not...

unless of course razor feels tempted. :scratchchin: otherwise why not just let it go?

I agree with you--it's disgusting.

Am I wrong.................................

Anyway, getting back to this thread, I'm hanging up on this thread cause I want this topic to be put to rest. I hope we can get back to some good car stuff, and hope gay, bisexual, straight, transgendered, neutered, martian, whatever, we can all really enjoy the upcoming auto shows! :)

To much drama guys over a simple reaction.

Sometimes the truth is not a popular position, I was offended, its that simple, and my being offended, offended others. Doesnt make much sence. It was a bit of a loaded topic anyhow, very exploitive of women in the first place, perhaps not a good topic.

To answer one question -

We were both giving a warning at the same time in an identical letter. One I missed because BV's PM bumped it and I got it after reading and responding to BV's PM...anyhow... the offer was open to having the warning removed if we straightened up. I felt it was fair enough though I would not have wanted OC to recieve a warning, he simply had a reaction to my reaction. It was a deadlock problem. Z did the right thing because it wasnt going to end. My problem was not with OC is was the pictures, he just happened to be the name on the post.

On my behalf its too bad people cant see or understand what I was talking about or in other instances can not see both sides either. That is one thing I do, is see both sides and Im not stuck in any time zone, thats silly. I look very deeply into everything and always express a point that I might feel is being overlooked. I have an unusual way of expressing myself and at times I get harsh in effort to drive the point, I am not alone on that one. I have come along ways here on account of some of you guys on these issues, I still at the same time have a line.

I wrote OC a long, what I feel is quite personal letter, I really hope he can absorb some of its message because I sure as hell would never want anyone to leave because of my alternate and strong willed position. I know for a fact that at least from time to time when being serious I do make a few good cases. As does OC.

The volumn of negitive insulting stuff thrown at me has been enormous over the years. I have never asked or hoped for someone to be banned. I always approach the issues myself, thus my lack of popularity. Its OK.

So lets please show some of that open mindedness Im accused of not having, chill out and hope OC reads and understands some parts of my letter, most importantly for him not to leave.

here's a thought.

if you don't like the pictures on a thread, um, I don't know, turn off your computer.

it's not like the topic of the thread wasn't a dead give away.

as for O.C., hope you come back, you're one of the saner folks around here(although I think the hissy fit over the warning is a bit of an overreaction)

Posted

Wow. We'll OC bro i'll miss you, I always found you're cander quite charming and refreshing. We need people on this forum you want to see GM succeed and not be nothing more than a fan-boy koolaid drinker. As far as the comments razor made in that thread (just read them) I don't really know what to say about that except that sometimes opinions are best kept to yourself, but that's not the point of this thread. I'd hate to see you go OC. I think i'll look for ya on myspace and add ya, would love just chatting with ya sometime.

Since the suggestions for self-betterment are flying in here, here's another thing to watch; the "we all" mentality. No such thing. Everyone here speaks for themselves only; no one's been elected anyone else's representative.

As someone who almost never posts here, I just look in from the outside and have to laugh at this whole situation of people getting pissed off.

As I see it, it all boils down to this:

-Its a website that people voluntarily join/click

-People express their opinions. Opinions offend people.

That's the nature of life. Some may be hateful, mean, personal, etc but (in my opinion) should never be censored. Having said that, this website is owned by someone. That person can dictate his/her will on whoever/whatever is posted. Oh well, that's life. You're not going to change that, unless you want to buy this site.

A website should not so entrenched in your life that a remark made by somebody disrupts your life in negative way. Its not your spouse constantly saying these things to you in your home on a daily basis, making you life miserable. Its not a coworker harassing you, making your work life impossible. Its not your friends telling you this every weekend at the bar. Hell, its not even a total stranger coming up to you on the street and yelling it in your face. All those situations are ones that are out of your control. This place is in your control. Its a bunch of 1's and 0's stored on a server. That's it. People are always going to think what they want. A message board reply isn't going to change their way of thinking, no matter how much you want it to. Move on with life...
