I think ya'll should take a look at "The World is Flat" by Thomas Friedman. I have not read it personally, but several of my classmates have and Mr. Friedman spoke at our school about a year ago. I think it puts a lot about the intricacies of the world economy into perspective in this day and age. Trade is going to factor into our economy these days more than ever, and striking that balance between a strong American workforce and providing import competition to keep prices low for consumers is never going to be simple.

As a sidenote about Japanese contributions in Iraq, the Japanese Naval Defense Force has contributed greatly to our security efforts in the Persian Gulf.
