DETROIT – General Motors today announced that customers who purchase any new 2006 or 2007MY GM vehicle equipped with OnStar and eligible adaptive mobility equipment will receive two additional years of standard OnStar service at no charge (in addition to the first year of included service).

The GM Mobility Program was launched in 1991 to assist people with disabilities with their transportation needs. Under the terms of the program, GM reimburses customers up to $1,000 when they buy or lease a new GM vehicle and adapt it with one or more of the 35 eligible aftermarket mobility equipment modifications such as hand controls, scooter hoists or wheelchair lifts. GM brands in the program include Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC HUMMER, Pontiac and Saturn.

Under the new offer, a customer purchasing any GM vehicle equipped with the Sit-N-Lift power seat, new OnStar TTY equipment or aftermarket adaptive equipment through the GM Mobility Reimbursement Program will receive two extra years of OnStar service. Since the first year of OnStar service is included on all new OnStar-equipped GM vehicles, GM Mobility customers can now get three years of OnStar service with their purchase. Until now, the three-year OnStar offer was only available on GM’s sport vans (Chevrolet Uplander, Buick Terraza and Saturn Relay).

“GM recognizes that family caregivers, seniors, and people who have limited mobility are particularly concerned with personal security and safety,’’ said John Gaydash, director of marketing for GM Fleet and Commercial Operations. “Our mission is to enable people with disabilities to get where they want to go, and now OnStar provides them the confidence to get there.”

With OnStar, subscribers have direct access to safety and security features such as 24-hour emergency assistance, remote door unlock, stolen vehicle location assistance and Hands-Free Calling, which allows drivers to make and receive hands-free voice activated calls through a nationwide cellular network.

An exceptionally wonderful idea from GM. I am proud of the company for their decision in this regard.
