General Motors Corp. (GM) Wednesday said its Cadillac luxury brand will be available in South Africa in early 2007.

GM said three Cadillac models will be sold initially in South Africa - the BLS mid-size sedan, the SRX crossover SUV, and the STS full-size sedan.

GM said it will begin a direct distribution network of retailers that will open in major South African cities such as Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.

Strange decisions abound.

South Africa was an important enough market for Jaguar to LAUNCH the new XK there, and Cadillac's not even there yet? I would have assumed they'd been there for years.

Also, BLS and STS but no CTS?

Probably no point since the CTS only has about a year and 1/2 left to it till the next model...

best wait for the updated version to introduce it to the country.

Have to do something with all of those empty ships heading back down to reload with new RWD Pontiacs...not a bad decision if you ask me.

Eastern route takes you around the horn of South Africa to get to Australia. Yes, if you were going to be taking the western route off of California, then yes, it would be a bit out of the way.

As an importer of Bakery Equipment from Capetown for many years, we had equipment coming into New York/East coast more than we did West coast. So yes, it is a trade route.
