Chinese Chery U.S. Debut Postponed Again

Posted Image

Malcolm Bricklin once again has pushed back the entry date for the vehicles he wants to import to North America from Chinese automaker Chery — this time until late 2008 or early 2009.

Bricklin, founder of Visionary Vehicles and onetime importer of the Yugo, originally laid out an aggressive timetable, saying the first Chery cars would reach the U.S. in early 2007. He has moved the date back several times since then, citing various reasons for the delays. This time, he claimed the Wuhu-based manufacturer couldn't meet his ambitious targets.

It's going to fail. A BMW for the price of a Honda? How about a Honda for the price of a Honda first?

Bricklin doesn't get "luxury" if he thinks it can be engineered and sold cheaply.

What's this, like the third or fourth time this has happened?

If it's getting pushed back so much, it's likely that this venture is going to fail. This isn't good PR for Chinese cars because this will just reiterate the notion that they are crap-tastic.
