I've got an issue going on at work. Our receptionist who has NO life has, for the 3rd time, opened my mail. Sometimes, I have stuff sent to the office (care of) because I don't want to run to the UPS or FedEx station when I can't be reached at home during the day.

The first time it was a private letter from an attorney. (She once opened this lady's divorce papers from an attorney that were sent to the office). The second time was a locker bag I had ordered on line. (It was obvious it was luggage I ordered). The third time was last week when school books arrived from Barnes and Noble for which I don't want people to know I am taking classes at night.

She has 2 divorces under her belt (having been married to bad men), has 3 loser kids, now weighs 300 pounds and is a lonely mess. I have complained to the business manager. This receptionist feels that this slight measure of extra care makes her job so much harder.

Have you got invasion of privacy stories from home, school, the dorm or the work place? Let' s hear it.

Opening/tampering with someone else's mail is a federal offense. You might want to remind your receptionist of this. Also, does your boss want her reading confidential documents meant for his eyes only?

Idea:

Send a letter to a friend at your work describing in ridiculous detail about how you plan to sacrifice the receptionist to the Egyptian god Osiris to ensure a healthy, fertile growing season for your marijuana plants next spring.

Update:

I was told by our business manager, that, because it comes to the office, it is open game for opening unless she is told ahead of time. He was just in my office and this came from the president of the firm. That's because the president has a wife at home who can sign for stuff and not have to spend 1/2 hour going to UPS when it could just as easily come here.

I had sent her a list saying not to open: 1) packages from obvious e-shopping, 2) letters from attorneys or others like doctors addressed to me, and 3) anything hand written.

There are a lot of things about my company that are effed up. I think it's pretty clear. "Fat Ass" up front wants carte blanche to get into our personal stuff and I don't think I would like to run up there every time I shop at Barnes and Noble and have it sent to the office to warn her. I might forget.

Your business manager/president is an idiot. Let's see how he reacts if you go to his house and open his mail (and do his wife).

In any case, I like my suggestion. Also, write bogus letters addressed to yourself with things like, "If you're reading this, lose some weight" or "This paper is being handled by a lifeless bitch." What ground does she have to complain, "Oh, I was opening a letter addressed to Bob and it said..."

Why don't you just go up to her and say, "Hey. Will you stop opening mail addressed to me?"

Something that kind of bugs me is what happened the other day. The internet was out at our house and while I was at my buddy's house I decided to use his computer to check up on some stuff...mainly my bank account; checking up on my statements and activity. As I'm doing this one of my buddy's proceeds to stand over me and ask what it is that I'm doing. I tell him I'm checking my account/yadda yadda, and I figured he'd get the point and leave me alone for a moment. No, he continues to stand there watching. I then say, "Hey, do you mind?" (as in, gtfo), and he goes "Why?...Oh...you're one of those..." I'm like, "WTF is that supposed to mean? I'm not entitled to some privacy when checking my bank account? It is my personal business..." He then goes off on some stupid reasoning on why it isn't a big deal and I shouldn't worry about money so much (yea, this coming from the guy who is actually indebted to me). For the most part I've kept my mouth shut, but sometimes I'll play the dick move when around others and let him know that he still owes me money. If he ever gets embarassed or upset or whatever that I'm letting everyone know, then I'll throw it right back in his face...

Rightly so though...I lent him the cash months ago expecting to get it within 2 weeks of giving it. He hit money troubles so I let it slide for a while. He has money though now and I have told him several times that I need it and he has told me several times he will go grab it later that day or whatever...It's really starting to bug me now. I borrowed money from him once before (a slightly larger sum too) because of an emergency, but I promptly paid him back that very week once my paycheck came in. But I digress...

Is this the same receptionist that hits on you trinacriabob?

And no, tampering with someone's mail, even if the mail is recieved at a place of business is still illegal.

dunno about FedEx, UPS though....

yeah, bob, is this the chick that wants some bob>?

if it is, and you give in to her, its like having a threesome, because there's enough of her to count for 2?

maybe she's being naughty with the mail because she wants you to 'punish' her.

Well, to a mild degree. The one that was more of a "problem" in this way was when I worked in Bellevue WA prior to moving back down to warmer weather.

Unfortunately, it has the firm name in the c/o so they use this as an excuse. She is quite pathetic.

See post immediately above. Everytime I walk behind her into the building, I try to estimate how many of my rumps (in width) would fit into hers. The factor is 3.

A really cool guy I work with whose wife is also very cool (she works in an accounting firm) said they both decided it is this kind of behavior that gives women in the work place a bad name. I would say that men have power struggles and turf wars while women seem to dwell on the petty stuff, creating problems where there never were any to begin with.

I'd really like to work all by my lonesome.

DON'T DO IT MAN DON'T DIP YOUR TECH PEN IN THE COMANY INK!

i know what you mean about women being petty. it seems these days like half the women are cool in this profession but the other half are militantly out to prove something for their gender and have esteem issues....aside from the other women who just have petty high school girls grown up kind of issues.

Me and a couple of others refer to her as "Pillsbury," as in flour (what one of her husbands would have had to roll her in prior to looking for the wet spot) --- did I just say that? I don't think my equipment would work in light of all the folds of flesh. We also refer to her as "Los Tres Culos" which, in Spanish, means "The Three Butts."

At any rate, she is of the latter variety...a petty high school girl that, at 40+, has not resolved her issues. Keep in mind, she is our receptionist. We have one of the angry butch types, she is an intern in the professional area that goes to school.

Right now, we are so short handed that our company turns a blind eye to people that should be fired. There are 3 that I can think of and, unfortunately, all of them are women...they create animosity out of excitement because their scope of work is smaller than that of the professionals who have "bigger fish to fry."

Just becuase someone is overweight, male or female, doesn't mean they're pathetic or not worth the life they're given. However YOUR mail is YOUR property. I think the bosses allowing this to go on could tag them as accessories to this federal offense.

Whoa...whoa...whoa...she is a pain in the ass, period. The fact that she is ultra chunky, because she is a DB, is something else to harp on...because it's on her. We have another young lady who is a CAD drafter who is similarly large but because she has a good attitude and never gets into tiffs with people, the employees never bring up her weight.

Bottom line: it's when the person's an a-hole all the way around that it would come up.

Trina, my secretary opens my mail all the time. Its a HUGE timesaver, and I get it in piles, urgent, sometime, and file under G.

Anything that comes here that I DON"T want open, I ask be addressed "personal and confidential". It works for us - maybe would work for you?

Well, Trina's response is: isn't it obvious that a Barnes and Noble package need not be opened (that's Chapters to you maple leaf people)? Plus, I've told her before. Evidently, you have a system that works. Her opening my mail does not work. You don't know her -- trust me, she's N-O-S-Y and also gossips about people's information.

Mail yourself a box of doughnuts. When you find she opened them, say you don't want them any more and that she can have them. Do this every day until she has a heart attack. :AH-HA_wink:
