Though it's called a crossover, the SX4 has all the desirable attributes of a "station wagon"-you know, that ancient phrase for, um, essentially the same thing. It's a five-door hatchback with second-row seats that tumble forward for maximum cargo-carrying. Five passengers fit in its chairs, and as long as you're not the poor guy sitting in the middle of the second row, life is pretty good.

And its bottom line includes one very coveted attribute: standard all-wheel drive. Suzuki says the $14,999 SX4 is the lowest-priced all-wheel-drive vehicle sold in the United States.

The Aerio SX with AWD was at total slug with 155hp. The SX$ isn't bad looking, has decent standard equipment for the price and if the Aerio set any standard, it'll be safe. But its still a Suzuki, so I wouldn't count on it being quiet, comfortable, smooth or reliable.

You can't manufacture small, I4 AWD cars. They always seem to be too heavy and underpowered. Plus, wouldn't traction/stability control be just as good? More fuel efficiency, too.

Subaru built their entire US business on small, 4 cylinder AWD cars, wagons, and BRATS.

Suzuki-built Trackers, Metros and Sprints were reliable vehicles. not until Daewoo was shoved down Suzuki's throat did they have reliability problems. The head of Suzuki publicly made his displeasure known when Forenzas, Renos and Veronas dragged his company's reputation through the mud.

I admit I have not read the review yet at the top of this thread, but SX4 is related to the latest Swift, a car that played to excellent reviews in the European press, and we all know how patriotic they are, if it ain't homegrown, they usually don't like it.

The SX4 has a good chance to sell to people who have aspired to an SUV but couldn't afford it, or to people who want to downsize from a behemoth. It seems like a nice blend of attributes to me at an unbeatable price. Of course, this is all my opinion. I haven't seen an SX4 in person, but I have to say I am intrigued by the concept.

Well, I stopped by my former employer's backlot today, and they have 4 SX4s just in, still wrapped, base models with automatic. White, red, orange and black. They're funky little creatures. I like 'em, they look like they'd be fun, capable and roomy enough.

But the Aerio with AWD wasn't available with a manual transmission, was it? And I thought I heard something of choices involving when/how/which driven wheels are involved.

i looked at one today. its really cool! it has a rally attitude. also a hint of Mini funk to it. the interior looks great, and this has 10x the charisma of that worthless Honda Fit.

great value too.

I bet the SX4 is a rad car to beat on. it could use more hp, but look at all the accoldaes Honda is getting for its pathetic 103 hp fit. or whatever hp it puts out.

I'd totally pick one up for a 3rd car to whip around town in for fun. its way cool. its offbeat in a positive way like the Aerio, but not weird like the Aerio either.

front and rear seating looked generous. trunk was prob. small, but hey, so is a yaris hatch.
