Every time I see Aura in a topic title, my eye keeps seeing Acura. The words are a little too close for my liking.

Hah, funny...exactly the same thing Motorweek said passengers they drove around in the Aura kept saying ("Acura"), but in that case, it was more because of the car's overall look and feel that had them thinking that.

VERY similar naming, though, so it's just an added treat that the Aura is "Acura good", according to most.

I want to know why they keep referring to the Aura as a german wannbe of sorts. The only thing that looks european on that car is the stupid little light on the side of the front fender. It's the same chasis as the Pontiac G6, right? I've never seen the G6 mentioned as a european anything...

okay. So why don't they refer to the G6 in the same way?

do you think that GM is trying to put Saturn out there as competition directly for the european brands or do is this something the press or others are doing?

Take a closer look between the two. They are not the exact same.

1. the crease on the front fender is different between the two.

2. the door handles are higher on the shoulder line than the Vectra.

3. The headlights appear to have a slightly different shape due to the crease mentioned in #1 above

4. Lower portion of doors have different shape. Aura has more bidy sills grafted in.

5. Rear C-piller shape and/or rear door window is different (Aura has black triangular piece, Vectra does not.

6. Lower front fascia air intakes are more pronounced on the Vectra (although we are expecting the Aura RL version to look more similar)

7. Maybe it is the angle/lighting in the pictures, but to me the greenhouse of the Vectra is almost Cadillac Catera shaped, whereas the Aura reminds me more of the Impala.

I expect they will be the exact same in the next generation but for the time being the Aura is a half step between the current Vectra which came out before the Aura and the next Vectra.

Let me just add that the Vectra sedan and 5-door are on SWB Epsilon while the Aura is on LWB Epsilon.

I know the Aura is on the same platform as the G6 & Malibu (Maxx in partular), but I'm curious what SWB and LWB stand for...

SWB-short wheelbase-Malibu

LWB-Long Wheelbase-Malibu Maxx/G6/Aura

LWB has a lot more back seat legroom, though both platforms are still pretty narrow.

I just saw my first Aura in person today, and I hate to say it, but the interior, especially the back of the front seats, needs some work. It's better than the Malibu & G6, but it still needs more love.

I saw an Aura also. It had the brown Moroccan interior and not a single thing needs to be changed. THis car blows away anything from Europe or Asia at the same price point.
