spyware troubles

so today I picked up some kinda spyware when I was on a internet gaming site, and I have ran all kinds of spyware and virus programs without any luck. I have heard you can restore your computer back to what it was at a certain point in time. I guess my question for you tech guys is, is that complicated to do. I don't know what kind of imformation you need to tell me. I'm running windows XP...i don't know what else you need to know.

I would apprieciate any help you can give me.

you can only restore if you have a dell otherwise its different for PC youd have to save all your documents and reload your computer from scratch and then check thru the documents for any files or any wierd sizes if a picture looks like its small when you open it and it looks like its taking too much room up on your disc it may be corrupt . . . in the meantime keep a strict log of all the processes . . . sometimes spyware will try to but ill end the program when my computer is running a bit slow i notice . . . then ill go thru my antivirus and if that fixes it no prob . . . sometimes i have to look at the entire ghost image of the computer

never used a mac i dunno how those work but im pretty sure your not on a mac right?

make sure your antivirus and anti spyware are up to date and find a good technician . . . it sounds like your not that comp savvy . . . it can be a pain finding a spyware program in all that space

have you tried a program calle Webroot Spysweeper? You can get the trial from www.webroot.com or www.download.com

Im decent with computers so if you want to wait for a professional like that G6 driving ToniCippriani (sp) i wont mind.

To return to a point in time you would have had to set these points i belive. to get to these point go to start all programs then PC Help and Tools. then system restore and the on screen stuff should guide you. If its not there go to start all programs then Accesories ten system tools and then System restore. Ther might be a date from a week ago you can pick. but everything you put on your computer from that date to now will be gone.

Well if you dont need anything on your computer you can restore it back to when you bought it from the store. this will mean everything saved on your computer will be deleted. to do this your computer should have came with Restoration CD's you put one in restart your computer and follow the instructions. Sometimes the CD's have a Feature where it restores everything but what you have installed like games and photos would stay if you did this process. Also some computers have a partion on the harddisk that has recovey on it so the Cd's arent nessary at all. to acces it i think when you start up your compter where it says the manufatuer before going to the windows XP screen you hit F10 and follow the instructions.

My HP can restore so its just dells also my old Medion had restore too. i think its a XP thing not just for dells you dont need to go from scratch.

the xp restore is just settings and drivers and such, i don't think it'd get rid of spyware

i use spybot s&d available here , just update it before you scan your pc. it has tons of things it looks for.

for virus scan i just use free-av.com.

are you just getting massive pop ups or noticeable slowdowns?

well i was getting massive pop-ups but i got rid of most of that, but there are still a few. Plus there is even an icon that keeps popping up in my system tray.

I might just have to take it in and get it checked out my someone who knows what they are doing i guess, because i tried to run system restore and it wouldn't let me. I read through some stuff about the restorer and aparently it won't work because i have deleted some stuff with my antivirus software already.

Actually System Restore is a component of all XP systems, not just Dells. It was originally introduced in ME.

It also does much more than just replace a few drivers and settings.
