July 2006 Sales: Nissan North America

Posted Image

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (August 1, 2006) – Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) reports sales of 86,408 units in July, which is a decrease of 16.2 percent from the prior year, when NNA posted its best sales month ever. While the Nissan Division saw a sales decrease of 16.0 percent over last year, the new Versa subcompact experienced strong first full month, with sales of 2,856 units. The Infiniti Division posted a sales decline of 18.1 percent versus the prior year.

I think Nissan has pretty much peaked. 3,000 units of Versa sales aren't going to help a company that's been used to massive sales gains from big trucks and fast sport sedans.

I think the main problem was that the current car lineup was introduced in quick succession and all aged at the same time. The new Altima and Sentra will boost sales. I doubt the Maxima will since it hardly changed. The Versa will sell more, too, since this is only its first month.

i think this is probably correct...

Nissan has damaged its customer base, by developing lackluster and poor cars and trucks that fail to get good fuel ecconomy

My 05 Sentra gets 30.5 mpg combined city/hiway, with AC on, thank you very much. I hardly think that it 'fails to get good fuel economy'.

yes, it is getting replaced in a matter of weeks, not months, or years [like Ford]

Cobalt's mileage is too low, these days drag racing at stoplights is out, and savign $$ is in.

I'd hardly call the Maxima lacklaster - I'm really impressed with the one my friend bought.

Still don't understand the rear seat console though - who wants a car that big that can only carry 4 people? He likes it though - and I think it was an option.

Not really in the real world. The city mileage may not be as good but the real world highway mileage is as good as any other subcompact.

I haven't turned out less than 32-33mpg this summer in my 8 year old Civic even with mostly city driving. No matter how hard I drive it I can't get less than 30. Last time I filled up I was right around 37.
