I've been called many things, but I found this one interesting...

I was walking out of kroger's with a few things... I was behind a well-to-do couple..

They watched me walk to my car-and open the door...as I start putting stuff in-

I hear-"Man, the white trash gets worse here every day.."

and they drive away in their 300...

I was like-

Granted-I'm sure nobody looks great after a 12 hour day- but bash on my beater?

It's a little rusty-but it's clean inside and out-and shiney too, after a good wax last week...I take care of all my cars-regardless....

Those of you with "older" cars-do people ever make fun of them?

*shakes head* Dumb people.... :(

What kind of wagon do you own, Dave?

And those assholes are rude. I bet the f@#king 300 they owned probably wasn't a Hemi, but one that used to belong to friggen Hertz fleet and bought from a used car lot.

Yes'n'no.

When my '00 mc LS got flooded and totaled in 2003, a lot of people raised their eyebrows (or worse) at me when they learned I was going "back in time" ... and buying a 1987 MC LS for my daily driver. I, however, have not regretted it one bit. The '87 MC LS has been more reliable than the '00 mc LS was. Yeah, I rent cars more than I did, but I don't mind.

How many times have you had to fix your car?

How many times will they have to fix their Newport...er, I mean "300"?

I'd rather be white trash than driving trash.

Rest assured, whatever they're paying on their Chrysler (remember that you, as white trash, own your car), be it $350/month or $55/day from Dollar, its too much. You should've asked them to make you some waffles with their grille.

Some bitch in a Prius actually gave me part of a lecture while I was filling up at CostCo. I guess she saw me pumping 19 gallons and she said, "If you and everyone else would buy reasonable cars instead of guzzlers like that, you'd be doing us all a favor." I told her if she's buy some reasonable cosmetics and pants that fit her, she'd be doing us all a favor. The guy on the other side of the pump busted up laughing.

Well, the wagon does need a bit a work, but that I expect that from a 13 year old

car with well over 140k...still probably cheaper than his monthly payment though.. :)

I always get dirty looks when I'm in my truck, but I don't give a $h!. Its been in my family since it was new back in '76, and I really don't care what you think of it. You weren't there when I decided on the color, flames, cartoon characters on the back, roll pan, custom interior, stereo or anything else. And since you weren't there, guess what, your opinion doesn't count one ounce of $h! with me. Meanwhile when I'm in my Impala, I get a lot a "semi-dirty" looks then when I tell them it gets 30+ miles per gallon, their attitude changes.

Posted

I never notice people giving me dirty looks in the either the Cadillac or Avalanche. I'm usually too busy talking on the phone, listening to my iPod, eating my lunch and going over my to do list to pay attention to "other" people.

Posted

Those kind of people always crack me up. If you are happy with what you have and it serves it purpose for you, who cares what idiots like them think?

I've seen some very nice looking, newer cars on the side of the road when I'm driving my crapmobile (Metro) and I usually stop to lend a hand. The Metro has 206K miles on it and still runs great. Of course its seats are hard but it gets me to work.

Ah, now that's a car that has lots of life left in it. My parents used to have a '93 coupe and it lasted for over 200,000 miles (although somewhere past that mark, water would come in from somewhere and pool in the floorboards).

You should've asked them to make you some waffles with their grille.

Oh $h!! Can you imagine how huge that thing would be? :o

Sad how people can't mind their business these days...

I had a similar situation at my university residence parking lot a year ago with my truck, (a '90 Sierra 6.2L)

I'm loading up the truck box with my belongings when this hippy dippy girl wearing hemp all over and barefoot (I kid you not... I go to a kinda lefty, liberal school with aging hippies and young ones <_< ) and her granola boyfriend pass by. Without my making any eye contact whatsoever to either of them, she comes up and states that my "Gas Guzzler" is detrimental for the environment and wastes resources. She points to her late model Civic hatch (she drives her b.f. around :P ) and looks at me as if I'm stupid and says that her car is more efficient and "sensitive" for the environment. All the while I have this face : :confused0071:

After her spiel, it's my turn to rebut. Since I can be Captain Misogyny, I tell her that if she showered and changed clothes, the trees she walked next to wouldn't die; that if she washed her hair, it'd clog storm drains, and that she was a stupid :censored: who should mind her own business and invest in Borax because no soap could remove the smell. I also tell her that her guys' B.O. is the reason that banning CFC's still hasn't stopped the Ozone Layer from depleting.

I finished with "Make like an endangered species and :censored: off"

Knowing her guy couldn't take Woody Allen in a fistfight and she was pretty baked, I just stood there waiting for a reply. They leave to her car, and I go back to my business, they way it should have been.

If Irony comes in play here, it's when I overhear her saying that there's not enough space to fit all their stuff and that they'll have to do two trips, thus wasting more fuel and adding more pollution that I would.

Hell yeah my buddy had a 91 celebrity wagon with the paint on the hood peeling off, a crashed front right quarter panel, a cracked grill, and a rear right door that was pretty screwed, and that car took us everywhere , canoeing , mountain biking , fishing , it hauled lumber 9 people at once we got it airborne driving off the interstate to avoid a wreck, and it never broke down on us so screw those superficial , materialistic . bastards..let them drive their 300 i think they are ugly as hell..so don't feel bad.

I love the 93 Wagons .....

And Captainbooyah .. did you by any chance go to Oberlin College?

Because it sounds just like my experience (ncluding the smelly, kno-it-all hippies). Going to a huge Hippie-school while driving an Expedition is fun .. me and my GF lived just across the street from the Environmental Studies Building, and as the captain of our hockey team told me, we were famous and profoundly hated by the Enviro Majors who could see us drive 2 blocks to class right in fron of their classrooms ;) ...

Made me feel good inside ...also it made me feel good when our moving would take mere 4 trips.....

Anyways .... stupid people are everywhere ... their concentration in the US, unfortunately peaks, though.

No, I live in Canada. The University I go to is called Simon Fraser. It was kinda founded by hippies and even some of the professors and students lived in shanites in the woods next to it.

The University has become a very mainstream, credible place to go, but there's plenty of the hippy types... mostly because they like it's isolation, and there are plenty of like minded people... the ones who think that not showering for two weeks is perfectly fine and organic.

I'm surprised I'm hearing this stuff. I knew my situation would similar to many others' but still, this is kind of sad.

I mean, imagine if we yelled at Prius drivers for being pansy-ass Hybrid drivers, it'd sound stupid. Well yelling at me for my choice of vehicle is just as stupid. I can easily shoulder the fuel bills, I keep my vehicle maintained and free of rust, crud and dirty exhaust, and I enjoy the practicality of it. This is North America, and we have something called freedom of choice.

Then again, I do wish freedom of speech was restricted to non-idiots.

The Parts Manager at the local HONDA dealership drives a '93 Cavalier wagon. It's a V6/5 speed, painted Arrival Blue with Z24 ground effects on it, lowered suspension, and Beretta rims. He's got an exhaust system on it that really brings out the little six's growl. He loves it.

I myself have always liked the Cavalier wagons, and wouldn't mind having a V6 one as a second vehicle.

Im middle of the road on environmental issues, but more green than black. Ive been in mid 20's for mileage for over a decade most of my life in fact. I do not support any forms of environmental neglect. At the same time I realize that we are where we are today with our transportation based socioty because that is how our government and corporate leaders have made our economy go round, so its not my fault we drive a combined average of 600 miles a week just for employment purposes. My water comes straight from a steady flowing mountain stream and my waste water goes through a sand filtration system and then back to mother earth from where it came. Im pretty sure "mother" put that water there for a reason..........why else would the racoons come down and WASH in it...........

I could care less what people drive though I am sick of "trucks" being used for basic transportation a truck is a vehical for working purposes and the increased popularity of "trucks" for non trucking needs in the last two decades has drivin the price of trucks where they dont belong. I still do not get in peoples face or down talk them because of what they drive. So I would have cared less about that 300.

HOWEVER.................call me white "trash" and you opened a can of worms that will ruin the rest of your evening and eat at you for weeks. "Whats the matter pal, having a hard time giving your wife multipul orgasms? cause I can take care of that for ya! " Ya know a happy wife makes for a better home life" "Perhaps this is why your so miserable and makes you critize those hard working contributing members of socioty that do the dirty work your whimpy ass cant deal with" "So heres yet another way by which I can improve the quality of your life" "Dirty deeds done dirt cheap" then hand her my business card.

Yeah, I agree ... very sad.

But, not altogether that surprising. Most people seem to have the mentality that a newer car will get better gas mileage than an older one ... with no exceptions. And, that simply is NOT true.
