Who do you think here at Cheers and Gears has the most over-the-top obsession with a certain type of car (or anything else that comes to mind)?

Is it Sixty8 with his obession with hardtops? Was it Blackviper with his obsession with Pontiac and the infamous Fiero? Is it Knightfan with his obession with the Monte Carlo?

Just list whatever you think of.

EDIT: Wait, wait, wait. The '96 SS is not overrated. :nono:

There was some funky stuff going on, namewise, with Ford's midsize cars around that time. At the Ocean City Spring Cruise last year, I saw what I thought was a Torino (it looked similar to the Falcon pictured, only it was a post coupe), but it was badged "Fairlane". I had to ask the guy about it. I'd actually like to hear from a Ford historian on the intricacies of their midsize cars from, say, '68-'72. Edited by ocnblu

There's really just one bit of wackiness in question here.

There was the intermediate Fairlane and the compact Falcon in '68-69. However, the Maverick debuted in mid-'69, sucking off the Falcon buyers. So in '70, the Falcon name became the new base Fairlane (only as a 2-dr sedan). This was a Fairlane body with a Falcon name. This '70 Fairlane Falcon was available (and some were built) with full-tilt performance options, which for '70 would go all the way up to the Super Cobra Jet 429. 'Falcon' nameplate was gone for '71.

Nothing out of the ordinary otherwise, tho the above is a bit unorthodox.

In 1968 and 1969, Ford's mid size lineup was the Fairlane, Fairlane 500, Fairlane Torino, and Fairlane Torino GT. The Cobra was added in 1969 as a stripped down Torino GT.

1970, it started out as the Fairlane 500, Cobra, Torino, Torino Brougham, and Torino GT.

In 1970 1/2, the small Falcon was dropped, and the Falcon became a stripped down Fairlane 500, which itself was a stripped down Torino.

For 1971, the Fairlane 500 and Falcon were gone, and the lineup was Torino, Torino 500, Torino Brougham, Torino GT.

In 1972, the lineup became Torino, Gran Torino, and Gran Torino Sport. The Gran Torino Brougham was added in 1973; it was just an option package for 1972.
