Gaywheels.com Top 10 Vehicles:

GLBT Consumers Loyal to Gay-Friendly Auto Brands

ATLANTA, GA – The sporty new 2007 Saturn Sky two-seat convertible has generated the most interest among gay and lesbian car shoppers and enthusiasts, according to Gaywheels.com, the first automotive website specifically targeted to the GLBT community. Revealing for the first time specifically which vehicles the GLBT consumer is considering, Gaywheels.com has released its list of Top 10 Most Researched Vehicles.

"There are many stereotypes about what we as a community drive and to a certain extent, stereotypes are based on the most visible members of our community. The reality is that we live and work everywhere in the U.S. and we are as diverse as the rest of the population," says Joe LaMuraglia, founder of Gaywheels.com. "With that said, the vehicles that the Gaywheels.com user is researching is markedly different than that of other automotive research websites, while still reflecting the diverse interests in our community"

Gaywheels.com Top 10 Most Researched Vehicles

1 Saturn Sky

2 Toyota Yaris

3 Dodge Caliber

4 Volkswagen Jetta

5 Toyota Camry

6 Audi A3

7 Toyota Prius

8 Saab 9-3 (sedan and convertible)

9 Pontiac G6 (sedan, coupe and convertible)

10 Mazda MX-5

Although information, specifications and pricing on all new car and truck models are available on Gaywheels.com, each vehicle on the Most Researched list is from a gay-friendly brand. Gaywheels.com classifies all vehicle manufacturers as gay friendly or not based on their corporate policies for offering domestic-partner benefits to their employees in the U.S. "Gay consumers as a group are more loyal to companies that demonstrate fairness and equality to the GLBT community," LaMuraglia emphasizes. "Gaywheels.com's Top 10 vehicles – and even Top 20 for that matter – are all from automakers that are gay friendly. This clearly shows that when armed with facts about vehicles and the companies that build them, gay consumers are more likely to shop and spend with brands that support their community."

Supporting the assumptions that the average gay person has a higher discretionary income, no children and is more apt to purchase a sports car, there are four convertibles on the list, and a two-seat roadster in the #1 position. "But notice that there are also inexpensive and fuel-efficient vehicles in the Top 10 – most notably the Toyota Yaris and Dodge Caliber," adds LaMuraglia. "The data also challenges the generalization that we as a group are only interested in luxury vehicles. There are only 2 luxury brands in the Top 10 and only 5 out of the Top 20 are luxury makes."

The Most Researched list is based on website statistics gathered from April 1 – June 30, 2006 from Gaywheels.com New Car section powered by Edmunds.com data.

The Yaris is #2. I thought you guys had taste!

Pontiac G6 coupe is hot. I'd date me if I owned one. The only ones on the list that really turn me off are the Camry and Prius.

Well, I have to say this site is more tolerant than most car message boards. Shows that GM fans are not all knuckle draggers. And even the macho UAW has partner benefits.

Also, every single car company caters to queer folk [no it isn't a slur anymore]. So, no 'boycott' would work, one would have to build a wooden buggy.

That's what I said to our dealer principle a few months ago when he asked me about advertising in the gay press. I said, why bother? Gays don't buy Chevies, plain and simple. Pontiac has some interest, but not Chev.

Most of my friends (those that have cars and don't eschew them because they "rape the environment") rattle around in Mazdas, Nissans and Hondas.

The HHR may see a glimmer of hope.

Wasnt the Solstice on that list the last time it was around?

Boy am I GLAAD it's OFF! (no pun intended and it was clearly a joke!!)

#3 suprises me. I would have figured the gay community to have better tastes than that. All the other ones have some sort of flair to them, but #3.

The Audi A3 really is super metro-sexual.

The Sky is a great little raodster in every way... for people

of any & all walks of life.

It appears that gay people are researching cars that most younger people like. I wonder if it is just because most gay people don't have kids?

id guess it has to do more with style and trendiness. that and clever marketing/advertising. i always thought the jetta commercials for a while were geared in a particular way.

im more curious to know about the most researched colors. ive seen numerous hot pink calibers and purple a3's and mazda miatas.

If you try to build a car on Edmunds, you are required to select a color. I am willing to bet that data is already being tracked.

I have to echo that sentiment. I'm very proud to be part of a site that doesn't have to post preemptive warnings about 'keeping the dicussion respectful' when a topic like this is posted.

Yes, a gay man driving a gar car would be oh so bad... :P

Anywho... I mostly agree with that list except for the Toyotas and the Caliber. I mean... I want a sexy deep purple Saturn Sky Redline, and for the practical side of things a Saab 9-3 aero... an 06 since GM ruined the 07. :D

Come on, Prius and Yaris?  Id say the definitley belong on that list.  I wouldn't be caught dead in either of those...

Neither would I... but I still want a sexy deep purple Sky Redline...

Not sure why the Yaris is on anybodies list but whatever (just my opinion).

This list looks pretty much like what a lot of people (whatever their orientation is) are looknig at. I've seen, heard, and talked to a lot of their airmen and NCOs at work and many of these cars come up.

It is nice to see 3 fresh GM products up their and the Sky at the top. Its also very nice to not have to wade through a bunch of fighting on this thread.
