Our one year old 2005 Tahoe has had a broken liftgate handle for over a month now -- according to the local Pontiac/Buick/GMC dealer that I use for service on this car, apparently GM has been using a new, cheaper liftgate handle for the last year or so, and there are like 200 backorders around the country for this specific part.

The car is still under warranty, so I'm not worried about any costs, but has anyone heard anything about this? It seems incredible to me that there would be so much trouble with such an item, as this part should not have changed since the 2000 model year...

What's up here?

On a sidenote, I just returned from a short family vacation in the midwest, and we were lucky enough to spot a new (1600 miles on the odometer) 2007 Suburban LT on the Avis lot when we checked in for a rental car, and we got it. We drove it for a week and put about 700 miles on it, and I can tell you that it handled so much better than my 2005 Tahoe --- much more stable ride, and quite a bit quieter. The new dash is so much nicer than the old, and the radio and HVAC controls were such an improvement over the previous generation. I could really tell the difference between the old and new generations, and now I wish I would have waited a year and bought an '07 Tahoe when they first came out..... oh well...

I haven't heard of this issue, but I can confirm your notes on the Suburban. I only drove it to the gas station, but it felt much smaller than it looks, and never wobbled around or felt like it was disconnected to the road like our TB EXT does sometimes.

yes... if you drive the suburban in comparason to the new tahoe... you can notice a big difference, or the avalanche is the best... but they feel soo much better then the previous years...

donno about that handle... if i were you, i'd go ask another dealership for a second opinion... because sometimes they are telling the truth, and sometimes they just dont want to help warranty stuff...

did you get this fixed? did it show on the invoice how much it "would" have cost? i have the same problem on my 06 tahoe.

Thanks

The local dealer fixed it under warranty, without any problems -- it was quite awhile ago, so I don't have the paperwork any longer, so I can't help you on the cost.
