Kowalski test drove one recently too.... :P

Here's my photos of the first & fourth Challenger I've seen in the flesh.

(or as Balthy would say: "in the steel")

This one was on the back of a car carrier being pulled by a Peterbilt 379.

About 15min. & 5 miles before I saw the MB 500SEC for the 1st time.

Looks great..I only saw the orange one at the Denver auto show back March. I have yet to see one on the road or in a lot. I want a white one w/ Colorado plates. I love the styling...retro yet modern..stands out in a world of FWD generics.

When I first saw pics I liked them, but now that I've seen them in person I'm starting to REALLY like them.

My favorite color so far for the new Challengers is black too!

my neighbor just got an orange one... its not terrible.. but it just screams "IM HEAVY AS SIN" when you look at it :P

Well, it is a big, heavy car...the fatness is part of it's Americanness.....this is the land of the Big Mac, Lard Lad, supersize everything, childhood obesity, and 6000lb SUVs..so our sports coupes should be over 4000lbs. :)

It's a Muscle car, not a Pony car. The original one was even closer to a Pony car (but not quite) than this one is.

Yeah, it's a performance car... I tend to avoid the old timey terms like 'muscle car' and 'pony car'...not really relevant today.

I like some of the AMG stuff, and the new aero styled sedans, but the old Mercedes stuff never did much for me at all.

Some of my favorite Benzes are the '60s-early '70s S-class coupes and convertibles, the SLs, the '50s Gullwing SLs, and the '70s 6.3 and 6.9 supersedans. I remember when I was in 2nd grade I had a teacher that had a '63 SE coupe (similar to the pic below). In Podunk, Ohio in the late '70s this car really stood out...I feel in love with the design. My family doctor had a '79 450SEL 6.9, I remember that making an impression on me also.

The 6.9s made an impression on me when they came out, but for performance, not looks!

Gullwings were nice cars, but styling wise I like alot of other manufacturers than Mercedes, they were sort of like a Volvo to me over the years, it didn't matter how nice the car was or how good the engineering was, they were too bland for my taste.

I've actually been thinking the 6.9 V8

conversion would be a fun way to

keep the car 100% MB while making

a sick sleeper/custom.

But if i ever replace the 5.0 SOHV in

the MB it will most likely be an iron

block 350 Chevy & mated to a 4-spd

manual for the ultimate bizzaro

Ugh...a Chevy engine in a Merc? Sacreledge... a modern AMG V8 would be a cool swap, but obviously would be $$$.

to aquire, remove & install an AMG V8 I'd rather

spend $2000 on a rebuild or junkyard motor &

use the remaing money to buy one of these:

(an even cooler hardtop than the 500SEC)

I like the 59 and 60 Caddies, and the 61 is nice. We cruised one in the late 80's, it was fairly mint and cost $3000 Canadian, couldn't pass it up.

A small block Chevy conversion in a vintage Caddy is a definite no-no, it's like tossing a 5.0 liter Ford engine into a Duesenberg, or a 360 crate engine into a Tucker... on a smaller scale.

Try an Iso or a hybrid or two, you don't need to chop up a Mercedes looking for an import with a SBC, not IMO anyways. I would much rather an AMG transplant, you could actually sell it down the road..?

I did like the little Scarab Datsun Z cars....

I saw a Challenger today. It was pretty much a "meh" experience. It looks the same in person as it does in pictures. Kinda like Kirstie Alley in a pumpkin Halloween costume. Not my cup 'o tea.

The Challenger and the Camaro are both going to be bigger than the Challenger and Camaro guys hoped for, but they will still be nice cars.

On the flip side is the Mustang, which is smaller, but guys who sit in the interior will be looking out of the Mustang at the Challenger and Camaro guys with envy in their eyes....

Yep, and I'll be watching Challenger and Camaro guys at the gas pump while driving by in the Prius. Or I'll watch the Challenger and Camaro guys who do stuff scratch up their cars while I'm throwing my bike and kayak into the old wagon.

Funny that you mention the Mustang, because its the only one of the three to have an uninterrupted life. While the Mustang has never been a great car, its always been better, in one aspect or another, than its competition. Thats why it sells better, and why Mustang fans could buy a new one at times when Chevy and Dodge guys couldn't.

Cheap bang for the buck performance in an attractive package. It's lighter weight, built cheaper, and it will most likely always sell more.

Mustangs have been unbeatable for years as far as bang for the buck, and neither the Challenger nor the Camaro will change that in the next few years I bet...?

Actually if you ever actually READ what I post, it's my WIFE's Magnum. Not mine.

And usually the "bitch fights" are with the ignorant posts, there are lots of guys out there who "don't like Chryslers", some of my best friends being among them. Cars are cars, who cares what certain people like and dislike?

Take a boo in the Project Chronicles, the last car I bought for a driver/ parts chaser is in there. It's not the best car in the world, it isn't superior in any way shape or form over what somebody else likes, but it ISN'T bland...

OK, I saved you some work. Like I said in the other thread, my buddies don't refer to this car of mine as "bland", they refer to it as UGLY! LOL

I think it cost 3 times what a new Corvette cost when it was new, not sure how relating to new Corvette prices matter, but....

And one more..... I once owned this 1966 Belvedere 2 door sedan, it is an original 426 Hemi/ auto car.

It's a nice car, it's desirable, it's very fast for it's time, but IMO it is a BLAND looking car...?

Not meant as an "insult", just an observation.

Yup... nothing wrong with a '66 Belvedere 2dr post but it is

basically a factory version of a stripped out Cobalt with a

Z06 drivetrain. (FWD/RWD aside)

Now since when is the Jensen,

I think we equate "bland" with different things....

To me a sleeper is a bland looking car that outperforms it's looks. A stiock Chevy II would be "bland" to me, or a stock Valiant.

I find bland to be something that can blend in with the crowd of cars, it doesn't mean "ugly". Not the way I see it anyways.

The Jensen is up and running, as soon as I get four switches it WILL be my daily driver/parts chaser. It's not terribly fast- my wife's Magnum R/T will probably beat it in the 1/4 mile, but I don't care...?

My daily driver from 1991 until 2000 was this car, it was driven in the rain/sleet/snow, parked outside 24/7/365, and my wife DID buy groceries in it, many a time..... I drove it in the snow!

To be honest it wasn't one of my favorite cars, I like older stuff much better. I like 59 Buicks more.

I like many cars I would consider "bland cars" btw... the Hemi car being an example I thought might make sense...?

Many of my cars haven't been "conservative" at all, but that doesn't mean people think they are GOOD looking.... they just don't blend in with the pack...

Here's the most conservative vehicle I presently own, and second to newest too...... It's a built small block with a .485" hydraulic roller, ported 2.02/1.60 heads, M1 intake, Edelbrock carb, headers, 3" Flowmaster 50 series, and a 4.10 rear..... it moves preetttttty good for something with a kitchen in it.... LOL

It can bunny hop the wheels well over a foot off the ground with ease.

Cool RV...that reminds me of a '73 Mobile Traveler 21 foot motorhome w/ a Dodge cab my folks had when I was a kid. Had a 318 that liked to stall a lot. Our second RV was a 25 foot Southwind Class A, it had a 440.

Have you ever heard of an FMC motorhome? I have ALWAYS wanted one, but never found one that I could afford at the moment they popped up.... one day I hope... they were 440 pushers!

Here's the one behind the fence in the above pic.... I sold it a couple of years ago though... my wife was choked I had TWO motorhomes, as she would say. :(

Oh, yeah..I remember those... I was into motorhomes from about 1978-1988...we had a subscription to a magazine that was like Motor Trend but for motorhomes..stayed at many a KOA and Good Sam park..some of my favorites from the '80s were the Holiday Rambler Ambassadors and the Appolo Sceptre--very sleek. After the Southwind, my folks had a Pace Arrow 28 ft and a Winnebago Chieftain, 33 ft, both with Chevy 454s. I learned to drive the Winnebago, it was a challenge as a teenager to back a 33ft RV in and out of the barn, and pull it up to gas pumps at a gas station with a Ford Escort towed on the back.
