Earlier we reported that a second version of the G8 would become available for the 2009 model year. We were not sure whether the vehicle was a performance variant, AWD variant, or something else, but we now have confirmation that a G8 GXP is in fact coming. The previous thread can be viewed HERE.

As stated in that thread, the G8 GXP is still slated to begin production late 2008. It's less than a year away from production now.

G8 production was supposed to start today, but it has been pushed back for another 10 days for whatever reason.

I would expect the G8 GXP to have an LS3 and 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions, though that is pure speculation on my part.

I could've sworn I read either here or another board where production had already started and they were already on their way. Guess not.

Lutz made that statement on the GM Blogs, but I do not think it was true. Perhpas some pilot models for GM execs have been produced, but based on the info I have I don't think saleable units have begun.

When will G8's be at dealerships ready for purchase?

I would guess we'd be lucky to have them here by mid-December. It takes quite a while to get them on the boat, through the Pacific, off the boat in California, and shipped out across the country.

Migth take a look at the airdam on the G8 in the recent Motor Trend Nov Page 99.

While it is a Middle East Holden/Chevy note the airdam. It is quite unlike the others on the next page. It is close but not identical to the Commodore.

Could this be the GXP airdam?

Either way for all those who don't think the present car has enough pizazz, the GXP will show the GT was just the standard model and never the sport model. Kind of like the GP GT it was just the average model.
