So my buddy pulls into my driveway yesterday with a new V8 STS. Looks like a bluish/grey color. Car was pretty stunning to look at. I get in...BAM. Man what a bland interior. On top of that, is there almost no rear leg room???. So this is what 55K gets ya? Overall not bad but average at best on the inside. I did not take a drive but I'm sure there is plenty of power and he said handling was pretty good. lWhats next for this model

The video can be seen at Autoblog.com. John makes a lap of the Ring look easy. Please note the car is very smooth little drama in the tough corners. The car is very quiet for a at speed lap. The car is stock less the safety equipment. John hits On Star at one point. Finally please note this was an automatic not a standard shift car. So could the the standard shifter be faster yet?

GM has release video and lap times of 7:59 at the ring in their 550 HP beast. To put it into perspective the M3 ran a 8:05 and M5 ran an 8:13 if my report was correct. The Caddy was stock less the roll bar racing seat and required GM safety equipment. It is said to be the lap record for a stock sedan at the Ring. John H and his performance group has done it again. I suspect the ZR-1 will live up the the 7:20 estimates and the new Camaro should be sub 8 Min laps with the sSUpercharged engine and just over 8 Min in the SS Camaro witht he standard 400+ HP engine. We just got the Cobalt SS at 8.22 and HHR SS at 8.44 so GM just keeps em comin.

Seeing as GM has given the obvious green light to the CTS Coupe, what are the chances that this thing becomes a convertible? A retractable hard-top would definitely put it on the list of people looking at Benz CLK's and even SL500's or SC430's. But I do think a retractable hardtop Caddy CTS would render the current XLR osbolete both from a design and price standpoint. Anyway, I do think that if GM really wants to send BMW, Lexus, Audi, and Mercedes back to the drawing boards, they need to cover as many bases as they can with this car, and a retractable hardtop would do just that. CTC, CTC-V, CTC-D(iesel), CTC-H (Hybrid), CTC-R (Roadster Convertible). Here's a Photoshop I …

I came across this while looking for info on the LaSalle II Hardtop... LINK Fleetwood (???) (USA) Cadillac El Camino 2-passenger coupe (special order # 1929) presented at the 1954 GM Motorama. El Camino is short for the Spanish el camino real, the Royal Highway, alias US highway 101. The exhaust configuration, windshield, roof saddle, spoked wheels, quad headlights, fluted side panel, gull-wing bumpers with bullet tips all turned up the following year on the production prototype for the Eldorado Brougham; the shape of the tail-fins [as used also on the Cadillac La Espada roadster, below], turned up on the production Eldorado models of 1955, 1956, the Eldorado Brougham…

Kudos: Cadillac CTS Named Top Safety Pick by Insurance Group ARLINGTON, Virginia — Cadillac's redesigned 2008 CTS on Wednesday earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's Top Safety Pick award for 2008. Other winners in the category of "large luxury cars" include the Audi A6 and the Volvo S80. This means the trio earned the highest rating of "good" in the Institute's front, side and rear tests and are equipped with electronic stability control. The news is especially heartening for Cadillac. The 2003-'07 CTS was rated "poor" for rear crash protection. GM redesigned the seats in the 2008 CTS to earn a better rating. The seats are standard in CTS models bu…

We’ve just got the latest spy photos of the up-and-coming Cadillac BRX crossover, and it looks like we were right - the resemblance between this future luxury sport-utility and the recent Provoq concept are uncanny. So how’s this a Caddy and not a Chevy (Equinox)? We’re seeing a character line down the side of the prototype that starts high at the C-pillar, and runs lower as it progresses towards the front fenders. Also notice the window line that’s outlined in chrome; a similar treatment adorns the new CTS‘ window frames as well. Headlamps appear to be stacked in Cadillac’s “new traditional” style; likewise, we can somewhat see a very sharp edge for the taillamps - ano…

As I was reading and drooling over the CTS-V in this months Motor Trend I noticed the sidebar talking about the upcoming coupe and wagon. It said the coupe was ripe for the V treatment and the upcoming wagon could introduce the new clean diesel and they didn't think there would be a CTS-V wagon due to high development costs to low sales volume. After reading about the CTS Wagon, diesel, V, whatever, just add AWD and I'll seriously consider one. I've been on a practical movement lately with my vehicles for some odd reason. I guess it's just me getting old. But hell, I've always loved a wagon that would haul ass, and big torque and good mileage would be the ticket.

Perhaps GM figures their enthusiast customers will order their Cadillac XTS(?) with an upcoming DOHC V12? Did they discover a way to bring one of their pushrod V8s noise, vibration and harshness levels down to where the next Northstar would have been? If so will this be offered as the base motor for the XTS or will it be the DI V6? If the V6 is the base motor and they do introduce a V12 will they offer a LS V8? Will the V12 with Active Fuel Management get close enough to a V8's fuel economy to make offering it wasteful? What do you guys think?

Given that Cadillac plans to offer the new CTS-V in overseas markets for the first time, they felt they had to up their game in order to compete with the likes of the M5 and the AMG E63. The new engine offers so much more torque at all speeds than the V10 in the M5 that driveability should be much better regardless of whether the manual or automatic transmission is installed. For those who prefer to handle the gear selection process on their own, the same Tremec 6060 used in the ZR1 is paired up with a dual plate clutch. The dual plate clutch provides the necessary torque capacity with a lower pedal effort. Drivers who spend more of their time stuck in traffic jams or …

Here are a few paragraphs from Dan Neil's review of the Cadillac CTS: My favorite piece of recent movie dialogue comes from the animated tour de force "Ratatouille." The ruthless food critic Anton Ego has just had his heart melted by the little rodent chef at Gusteau's, causing him to reevaluate his work, his purpose: "In many ways the work of a critic is easy," he writes in his column. "We risk very little and enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. . . . But there are times when a critic risks something and that is in the discovery and the defense of the new." So here's a new thought, worthy of defending: Cadillac makes …

Okay, so I have had my new CTS for a few days (sorry, no new pictures yet) and I can make some general observations about the car: 1. If you are sport inclined, get the FE3 package. Don't be afraid of what some (MotorWeek) say about it being too rough as it isn't. Yes, it is fairly taut, roughly equivalent to the V-Series and a just a tad bit stiffer than the first year 03 CTS's sport suspension (though quite a bit stiffer than the 04 and later sport suspension, which I felt was overly soft). However, it is almost never harsh or jarring and is, IMHO, a fabulous balance between imparting luxury and still being seriously aggressive. It easily trumps the BMW 5 series sport…

sorry guys.... just realized this was already mentioned in another cadillac forum. http://www.leftlanenews.com/trademarks-rev...ing-scheme.html Trademarks reveal possible new Cadillac naming scheme December13 If you liked alphabet soup as a kid, make an appointment at your Cadillac dealer for three to five years from now. That's because GM has recently trademarked several new nameplates for Cadillac, and so far we're worried and a bit confused. At present, these names are trademarked in Europe and Canada. However, companies often register their trademarks in foreign markets first, and later in the United States. This potential new naming system is undoubtedly…

I hit the show yesterday - new venue right in the heart of the South End of Boston (Southie for those in the area.) This new facility was a great improvement over the old one. Much more room. I have to say, sitting in the CTS there really gets the adrenaline going. I was struck by the size seeming much smaller than I expected given the chatter I've seen in the press about it being a 5-series size car - I didn't find this to be the case. In fact I actually liked the size of the STS-V they had on display (this is one sweet car by for $80k I'd have to think hard about it.) Really depends on the primary purpose of the car. Certainly as a personal driving machine the CTS si…

I was on the U.S. Patent and Trademark website earlier ( http://www.uspto.gov ) and after Search Trademarks----->Advanced Search-----> and "GENERAL and MOTORS and CORPORATION and AUTOMOBILES", I saw AT1, BT3, CT6, DT7, and the like newly trademarked. I'm starting to think about the number portions here, being that these tentative new Caddys look like they'll finally be readjusted to take BMW head-on, and my theory is as follows: AT1-1-Series rival, thus the smallest (possibly most hated, at least among diehard traditionalists) Standard of the World! BT3-3-Series rival, probably sized more accordingly than CTS, which would be.... CT5-Current CTS and gang, already …

News flash to automakers in Japan and Germany: The eagle has landed. Again. Just wondering if anyone else is having - or has heard of this issue. My 2008 CTS - Direct Injection RWD - with the ultraview sunroof is making terrible creaking and groaning noises every time it is driven over any type of change in road elevations, bumps, driveways etc. It is quite the cacophony of noises and is making me irrate every time I drive the thing. My joy of ownership has turned to not wanting to even look at the thing. I know a trip to the dealer should solve this but it is inconvenient. The very first pictures of my 2008 Cadillac CTS with the FE3 package and 6-speed manual. This car is equipped with every available option, sans AWD, as that is not available with the FE3 package. These pictures were taken just after the car was delivered to the dealership and prior to prepping the car. I take delivery on Tuesday evening. By the way, it is interesting to note that these most recent examples of the 08 CTS sport much tighter exterior panel gaps than I have seen on any vehicle. The front fascia to hood gap is practically non-existent, which was a long standing sore spot for the first generation CTS. I couldn’t locate a single misaligned panel or trim piece i…

Looked at my first CTS the other day and figured I'd post the pics I took, even though we've all seen hundreds of CTS pics by now. I'll say that it's quite sexy in person. Pictures do not do this car justice. However, the base model details really need to go away. The wheels are less than stellar and the black inserts in the fog light openings are horrible. They need an upgrade. The different headlights, however, I don't mind. I actually like the idea of differing headlights. Anyways, to the pics...

The snorting 500bhp CTS, previewed by the CTS Sport concept shown at this week's SEMA show in Las Vegas, is still under development in the US. So how did the CTS fair in its first month on the market? Spectacular. Certainly, some of the sales were of the '07 model, but a good number of them had to be from the '08. Let's compare it to the competition: CTS 2007 Sept 2007 sales: 6416 BMW 3er sedan Sept 2007 sales: 7251 Infiniti G35 sedan Sept 2007 sales: 3841 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sept 2007 sales: 6052 Acura TL Sept 2007 Sept 2007 sales: 4324 Lexus IS250/350 Sept 2007 sales: 3757 Audi A4/S4/RS4 sedan Sept 2007 sales: 3437 As you can see, the CTS outsold everything but the vaunted BMW 3er sedan, and only missed beating it by 835 units. I'd say there's no doubt the new CTS is a grand slam!

Infact, it's a new diesel version of the CTS undergoing testing on European soil. The oil-burning CTS is being tested on the European continent due to its abundance of engineers with experience of diesel technology and has been thought up to tackle the increasing diesel-powered segment in the States, as well as to offer a viable alternative to petrol CTS models in world markets. GM invented it, they were the first to have it and they're still the best at it. 3. HUD "Heads Up Display" Available on many high end cars, another GM innovation. 4. Something for everyone, at every price Show me a German, Japanese or Korean car (nevermind Ford or Dodge) and chances are about 75% that there's a better VALUE in a GM p…

Some automakers begin a new design direction with their flagship model (example: Bangled BMW 7-series). Cadillac does not do this. They began their new design evolution with the entry level CTS model. Do you think that Cadillac should have began the new edgy design with a top line model or the entry level car like they did back in 2003 with the CTS (as a 2004 model)?

I was looking around at dealers for 08s the other day and came across the new 08 CTS. I took a picture of it with my cell phone, but have no way of getting it to the computer. I will keep it on my phone til I get to WM and get something to transfer it. First impressions, beautifully styled and small panel gaps. The seats are muy comfortable. The interior was beautiful with all the panels lining up and the soft touch dash. I liked how it was laid out. The car I sat in listed for a tick over $40K. It did not have the DI 3.6 and had the base wheel design. I really like the new grille. My favorite design cue is the rear flanks of the fenders and bulge out to the ba…

In reading the August C&D, there was a short take article on the new 08 STS with the newly offered Sport Pkg for V-6 models. C&D said great things about the car and never complained about the cheapness of the cabin. They just said that the controls for the radio/HVAC were difficult to decipher. They loved the way the sport pack cars handle and said that this option is a necessity if you buy an STS. They also, of course, said to stick with the V-6 instead of the V-8 and save $9500. On a personal note, the wheels on the Sport Pkg cars are beautiful. They are a nice 18" 7 spoke design, high polished or chrome. They are much better than the base or optiona…

2008 Cadillac CTS Second Wind: Cadillac improves its entry-level car and proves in the process that the front office has undergone a redesign, too BY DAVE VANDERWERP | Link to Original Article @ Car & Driver Road Tests Amazingly, each new product coming down the GM pipeline these days seems to signal that the once-defining beancounter bureaucracy has finally been replaced by a genuine desire to create top-notch products. And this latest CTS is the most comprehensively integrated vehicle we’ve seen yet. GM’s confidence is so high that it flew a passel of 2008 CTSs from Detroit to Germany—at a cost between $20,000 and $30,000 each—to be test-driven by the motori…

http://www.motortrend.com/features/auto_ne...cadillac_cts_v/ According to Motor Trend, the next CTS-V will have a detuned version of the upcoming Corvette Blue Devil engine that will put out about 600 hp. Don't know how reliable this is, but if it's true, I'm starting to save my pennies. As pointed out, this will beat the pants off of any direct competitor and will even whip some a segment up. What I like most about this (other than the 600-hp part) is that GM used their "internal synergies" to do this at a lower cost. Which, also makes me think that other cars to get versions of this engine are the STS-V and XLR-V. After that, who knows? Maybe the engine will be used f…

So, after more than 5 years with my 3.2l powered, 5 speed manual (all options, sans automatic) CTS, I just ordered a 2008 CTS in Raven Black (cashmere interior) with the 3.6DI V6, 6speed manual + summer tire package and all other options sans AWD and the engine block heater. The total MSRP was just a tick over 45k, which is a bit more than I had expected. I should have a build date soon. -Mak 03 CTS with 5 on the floor

I wanted to round up a few different thoughts and rumors about the new CTS under one topic. It has been disucussed in various posts but not all at once, so here it goes... Is the new CTS being realigned with the BMW 5 series? The price has gone up in the new generation but it still drastically undercuts the 5er. The size of the cars are almost identicle. I'd say with the 3.6 pfi and CTS compares very favoriably with the new 528. The 3.6 DI is only about .2 slower to 60 than the 535 so there is a good competitor for that car. What there isn't right now is a non V series v8 option to combat the 550. I've heard and read rumors that the new dohc ultra v8 …

I was on a bit of a roadtrip yesterday with a friend, covering 500 kilometers in 8 hours. We visited some of the surrounding lakes and towns to the east of Toronto. On the way back, I dropped in on Oshawa, and to no surprise they had some hot cars by the factory. My camera battery was almost dead, and after these pics it shut of, so they came out looking crappy. I have to say though, the new CTS is AMAZING on the street. Stunning surfaces. Looks like a million bucks! VIDEO:

First Drive: 2008 Cadillac CTS Born and bred in Detroit; brought to life on the Nurburgring Nordschleife By Angus MacKenzie | Photography by Mark Bramley | Link to Original Article @ Motor Trend You don't want to get it wrong through the Fuchsrohre. This is just one of the places where the legendary Nurburging Nordschleife can bite you. Hard. You reach the bottom of the hill on the sixth, the car's suspension on full compression as the track veers slightly left. That's not…

GM's Cadillac Considers Hybrids for All Its Vehicles Link to Original Article @ Bloomberg | By Greg Bensinger June 26 (Bloomberg) -- General Motors Corp.'s Cadillac luxury-vehicle division is considering hybrid versions of all its models as U.S. gasoline prices stay near $3 a gallon and the brand's sales decline. "Pretty much every program I am looking at going forward has got a hybrid as part of it,'' John Howell, Cadillac's product chief, said today in an interview in New York. He didn't give a time frame for adding the gasoline-electric versions. Cadillac is looking for ways to revive demand after its U.S. sales fell 3.4 percent last year, the first annual decl…

Cadillac Revs Up for European Road Trip Date posted: 07-27-2007 | Link to Original Article @ Edmunds BREUKELEN, Netherlands — Cadillac has announced that it will hit the road in Europe this summer with the SRX and a customized Escalade that has been pimped out with advanced DJ equipment by Bose and Pioneer. The road trip is designed to win over customers on the Continent who as of yet may not be thoroughly convinced of the merits of the brand. "Club Cadillac" will swing through Switzerland, Italy, Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany and Austria. The automaker said the event is designed to "further increase Cadillac's brand perception in Europe this summer." The one-of-a-kin…

I'd love to be a product manager for Cadillac. IF they have the engineering resources, then they should definitely launch an assault with a wide range of vehicles off the stellar Sigma platform instead of the upcoming Zeta platform. Keep the Sigma platform exclusive to Cadillacs and use the Zeta platform for the mainstream brands (Holden, Chevy, Pontiac, & Buick). Instead of calling the CTS-based coupe, the CTC, they should call it the CSC for C-series Sport Coupe and CSW for C-series Sport Wagon. Do the same thing with the BLS-based coupe and call it the BSC for B-series Sport Coupe? How's that sound? Personally, I don't think a B-series range fits in with Cad…

Slow Caddys in Europe Brand cuts sales goals following weak sales By WIM OUDE WEERNINK | Link to Original Article @ AutoWeek | Published 07/23/07, 5:05 pm et General Motors will sell fewer Cadillacs than expected in Europe by 2010. "We have reduced our sales targets for Cadillac in Europe to 10,000 units short term and eventually 15,000," GM Europe President Carl-Peter Forster told Automotive News Europe. In 2003, GM gave the Dutch dealer group Kroymans the exclusive Cadillac distribution rights for Europe. At that time, GM's sales target for the brand was 20,000 units by 2010. But sales have been weak - despite the addition of the BLS sedan, which was derived fr…

Cadillac BLS Wagon: the lowdown What does a fledgling brand like Cadillac do when it needs to expand its range in Europe? Simple. It nabs a compact exec estate from sister firm Saab, swaps the badge and some styling details, and hey presto - the new Caddy BLS Wagon. The small estate will arrive in autumn 2007 costing around £21,500. Although Cadillac is relatively new to the European market, it has never sold a wagon in its 104-year history anywhere in the world. So what's different from the Saab estate? The BLS Wagon has the unmissable Caddy egg-crate grille, more perpendicular headlights, and the upright rear lights that have come to characterise the US brand; you w…

1. The power running borads on the Escalade are AWSOME. 2. White Diamond is STILL the best color for a Cadillac. 3. the GMT-900s 22" wheels make the disk brakes looks small. 4. Interior wise, there is NO doubt in my mind Cadillac deserves an A+ 5. 2008 STS looks great, & the 2005-2007 has aged well. 6. The DTS needs to be replaced... like yesterday. 7. The Cadillac CTS: The Future of Rock 'n' Roll in Cars By Bill Howard | Link to Original Article @ Technoride I've seen the future of rock 'n' roll in cars—and its name is the 2008 Cadillac CTS. Ditto for the future of classical music, hip-hop, and country. Unless Cadillac screws up royally between now and the car's launch in August, the CTS will have the most versatile audio system ever developed for a motor vehicle. I could tell at today's press briefing, just from sitting in the car—parked in an outdoor courtyard at a fancy New York City restaurant—and tinkering with the center stack. The CTS is Cadillac's small luxury/sport sedan, sent out to do battle with the BM…

Cadillac sits atop survey for luxury brand satisfaction Thursday, July 05, 2007 | Don Hammonds | Link to Original Article @ Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Cadillac, once known as "The Standard of the World," may want to dust off that old title. When it comes to customer service, a Business Week survey put the company third in a group of 25 "luxury or specialty" brands or companies, including those not in an automotive-related business. When it comes to cars, Cadillac outranked stalwarts such as Lexus and Porsche. Business Week supplemented 2006 data from J.D.Power & Associates with a survey of about 3,000 Business Week readers who were asked to nominate three companies …

CTS equals Cadillac Technical Superiority June 1 | Link to Original Article @ CNet Cadillac gave us a little hint of the cabin gadgets available in its 2008 Cadillac CTS. And from what we've heard, we can't wait to see it in action. We saw the new CTS at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show, but Cadillac didn't have the full story on its tech features there. The Cadillac designers focused on making the navigation and entertainment interface usable and seamless. The maps will have a 3D aspect and will show traffic and weather. Doing this as a poll would have been tough, so let's go verbal on this one. Best looking: I am stunned by what a good-looking car the DTS has become, with almost all vantage points being very attractive. And, no, it has nothing to do with being older now...I would have loved it as a 22-year old. It's just well done. Worst looking: I think the XLR is hideous. I was at a light behind one a couple of months ago and the table-top deck lid with its ugly squarish lights reminded me of a mid-90s Achieva (remember those?) Other comments: The SUV/wagon (acronym please?) has some nice crisp edges. The CTS has nice proportions, overall, but I don't like how tall the dash f…

Studios duked it out in the design of the key car for Cadillac BY ALISA PRIDDLE, June 2007 | Link to Original Article @ Car & Driver Much ado was made of the fact General Motors Corporation had two design studios competing on the design of the Chevy Camaro. Ed Welburn, GM’s vice president of global design, was so pleased with the results of the exercise that he applied the same practice, and then some, to the development of the 2008 Cadillac CTS. Four teams participated in a “spirited design competition” for the important entry-level Cadillac. The contenders included the Advanced Design Center in California; the main design center in Warren, Michigan; a second adv…
