Cadillac is going to have a quiet 2017, but 2018 looks to be a blockbuster year as the first of their needed crossovers will launch - the compact XT3. Thanks to a spy photographer, we have gotten our first look at it. General Motors' camouflage department did a really good job of covering up the XT3, so we can't really tell much about the design except that it looks like an even smaller XT5. One detail they weren't able to cover up is the intercooler, leading us to believe that the XT3 will come with turbocharged power - most likely the 2.0L turbo. A nine-speed automatic and the choice of front or all-wheel drive is likely. Platform-wise, expect the XT3 to use the un…

If there is one issue that is top of mind for various folks at Cadillac, it is the lack of crossovers. Their sedan-heavy lineup isn't doing them any favors in a marketplace crazy for crossovers and SUVs. The brand does have some breathing room thanks to increasing sales in China, but they know they need crossovers now. “It’s left us with the obvious difficulty. The core part of our volume lineup is in the market that’s contracting while we are unable, as good as XT5 and Escalade are, we are unable to fully exploit the updraft that’s taking place in the other half of the market,” said Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen to The Detroit News. The bad news is the f…

China has given Cadillac a bit of breathing room when it comes to sales and working on filling out their lineup. Automotive News reports overall sales of Cadillac vehicles in the U.S. dropped 3 percent, while sales in China rose 46 percent. "We are moving Cadillac from having this very strong U.S.-centric focus to having a global focus. The time will come when we will sell more Cadillacs in China than here," said Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen in an interview. With sales going up in China, this gives the brand some flexibility from transitioning a sedan-heavy lineup to adding more crossovers beginning in mid-2018 for the U.S. Currently, the XT5 serves as …

In 2009, Cadillac was gearing up to launch the brand in Australia. A small number of dealers had signed up to begin selling a right-hand drive version of CTS. But weeks before the launch, plans were axed. The economic crisis and fluctuations in various currencies were the reasons given. But in the past couple of years, various GM executives have said the brand will be coming to Australia and pictures have surfaced of various Cadillac models in the country. However, head of General Motors International Stefan Jacoby poured a bucket of cold water on this, telling Australian media at the Detroit Auto Show that the time isn't right for Cadillac to enter Australia. …

General Motors has a patented method for manufacturing the CT6, one that includes an industry exclusive way to weld aluminium with steel, not to mention the use of advanced materials sprinkled in. As a result, 25 states don’t have a single collision repair shop approved to work on the CT6 in the event of a crash. Only 150 shops nationwide possess the expertise to repair the CT6 per GM guidelines– in fact, GM won’t even allow uncertified shops to touch the big Caddy, withholding structural measurements and parts from the unapproved. http://www.gminsidenews.com/articles/the-cadillac-ct6-is-irreparable-in-25-states/ As the article mentioned, many shops …

It has been 14 years since Cadillac competed in endurance racing with the Northstar LMP at the 24 Hours of Lemans. But next year at the 24 Hours of Daytona, Cadillac will once again compete. The automaker announced today that it will take part in the new Daytona Prototype international (DPi) class in the 2017 IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship with the Cadillac DPi-V.R. Cadillac's DPi is based on the Dallara LMP2 chassis. Thanks to new regulations, Cadillac and other manufacturers are able to make changes to certain exterior parts to help make their vehicle stand out. Power comes from a naturally-aspirated 6.2L dry-sump V8 with 600 horsepower. This engine …

" It's a golden autumn morning in rural upstate New York. Backpacked kids wait by mailboxes for the school bus. I'm driving through pockets of valley mist to New York state's most famous racing circuit, to witness the shakedown testing of a race car so top-secret, it's still wrapped in camouflage. After a 14-year absence, Cadillac is readying its return to endurance racing. The last time the American automaker competed in top-level prototype racing was 2002, when the ill-fated Northstar LMP finished 9th at Le Mans. Audi's dominant R8 prototype notched its third consecutive victory at the Circuit de la Sarthe that year. Wayne Taylor and Max Angelelli were co-driv…

I was thoroughly surprised when I came to read this and read the results and I think it is the best looking of the group and it sounds like it(and all new Cadillacs) have been nailing the driving portion of the car. But a major bummer on the interior and yet again CUE. How long will it take them to sort that out??? It looks like Cadillac was going for "value for size". rather than just being the best and that's disappointing. CT6 vs E300 vs S90 Here's the intro but you can read the full comparison at the above link. " Large luxury cars used to be powered by throaty, grumbling eight-cylinder engines. Despite being introduced a year ago at the Shanghai Auto Show, Cadillac has been somewhat quiet on the CT6 PHEV for the U.S. But today, Cadillac has been spilling out some new information on their new hybrid sedan. First, we know now when the CT6 PHEV will go on sale and for how much. The model will go on sale next spring with a base price of $76,090 - includes a $995 destination charge. Cadillac says the PHEV will be offered as its own unique package within the CT6 lineup and feature an equipment list similar to the Premium trim. We have also learned how far the CT6 PHEV can travel on EV power alone - about 30 miles. The CT6 PHEV uses a turbocharged 2.0-lite…

Cadillac is offering 400 of its smallest dealers a buyout if they don't want to be part of the ambitious and contentious Project Pinnacle. Automotive News reports the offers will range from $100,000 to $180,000. The dealers eligible for the buyout sold less than 50 new Cadillac models in 2015. While the 400 dealers make up 43 percent of Cadillac's total number of dealers in the U.S. (around 925), this group only made up 9 percent of total sales last year. Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen said the buyouts is to give those an alternative who don't want to forward with the new program. “This is going to be a long, arduous and challenging journey and certai…

More and more automakers are beginning to roll out high-performance driving schools to those who purchase one of their performance vehicles. Cadillac is the latest one. Starting with the 2017 Cadillac ATS-V and CTS-V, buyers will be eligible for a two-day course at Cadillac's V-Performance Academy. The Academy is based at Spring Mountain Motor Resort and Country Club near Las Vegas, Nevada. The course "is designed for drivers of all experience levels and includes dynamic car control exercises, visual skill development, and proper cornering techniques." There will also be time in the classroom to explain various things. We'll admit Cadillac's V-Performance Academy …

The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance has become an auto show of sorts in the past few years with luxury automakers showing off concepts and new models. Cadillac has used the event to show off various concepts such as the Ciel and Elmiraj. Last night, they revealed the Escala concept. “Escala is a concept with two clear objectives. First, Escala is a statement of intent for the next iteration of the Cadillac design language, and also technical concepts in development for future Cadillac models. Secondly, Escala builds Cadillac’s aspirational character, signaling the brand’s return to the pinnacle of premium,” said Johan de Nysschen, president of Cadillac. Escala (S…

If there was one vehicle that was the talk during Monterey Car Week, it would have to be the Cadillac Escala concept. Unlike other concepts that Cadillac has shown during this time, various ideas will appear on future Cadillac models. "There's a lot of stuff that's being captured here. All of that won't necessarily find itself coming out in one car; it will be spread through the portfolio," said Johan de Nysschen, Cadillac's president to Automotive News. One of the key items that will be spread around is the Escala's design. Compared to Cadillac's sharp and angular design language, the design on Escala is a complete departure with curves and smooth edges. de Nys…

In light of the fatal crash involving a Tesla Model S and Autopilot back in May, automakers are reconsidering their plans for rolling out their autonomous technologies. General Motors was planning to introduce Super Cruise on the Cadillac CT6 sometime next year. But in light of Tesla crash, GM is rethinking their plans. “We aren’t putting a specific date on it,” said GM CEO Mary Barra at a cybersecurity conference. Officials told The Detroit Bureau later on that the feature would still appear next year. This would be corroborated by a Cadillac spokesman to Motor Trend. “Right now, the plan continues to be that we will introduce [super Cruise] in the Cadilla…

Earlier this month, Cadillac revealed the CT6 and XT5 in Berlin ahead of their official European launch in September. At the present moment, the brand will be selling the vehicles through 45 dealers in 12 countries. Speaking with Autocar, Cadillac Europe’s head of product management Barnabas Vincze says they plan on doubling that by 2020 as part of a plan to achieve “organic growth” rather than going after volume. This shows in the sales goal as Cadillac wants to boost sales from about 550 vehicles last year to around 900-1000. For the time being, the CT6 and XT5 will be equipped only with gas engines. Down the road, Vincze says “all types of different powertrains wer…

It seems a bit odd that Cadillac is doing a special edition model for Japan as they don't sell that many vehicles there. But trying to figure out why just seems like an exercise in futility. Let's just talk about the special edition vehicle in question. This is the Cadillac ATS Luxury Sport Edition which features a set of 19-inch V-spoke alloy wheels with a two-tone look. There is also a set of Brembo brakes and a sports suspension that comes as part of this special edition model. Other items of note include cashmere accents for the interior, and the choice of either crystal white or sable black paint. A turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder with 272 horsepower and eight-s…

We knew that the Cadillac ELR would be driving off into the sunset, but we didn't know when. "I plan to continue admiring it as one of the most beautiful cars on four wheels. But we don't plan further investment" in the coupe, said Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen back in February. This lead many to believe that Cadillac was going to keep the ELR until the end of the 2016 model year. That would not be the case as General Motors quietly stopped production in the same month. “Cadillac ELR production recently concluded. A very small quantity of ELR units remain available at dealers today,” said Cadillac Product Communications Manager David Caldwell in a stat…

Since "Dare Greatly" is the current ad campaign, I thought it would be a good idea for everyone to come up with one thing they dare Cadillac to do. It can be anything, it could be to put the Sixteen intro production, to make a pure EV Tesla fighter, a mid-engine supercar, to changing the naming scheme to introducing a new marketing campaign, or anything you want. But you only get 1 Dare, people can up vote their favorite idea.

Cadillac ATS Alright guys.. First it isn't a buy or sell really.. but more the idea. I've got the itch again for another vehicle but I'm not really sure why. I've been throwing around the idea of a used(40k and under miles) Cadillac ATS but it would have to have the 2.0T or 3.6. But after looking it seems the 3.6 are a little more than I'd like to spend and it isn't that perfect of a vehicle to overspend. So I was thinking.. First, as anybody driven one? What are your personal feelings about the car? Second, are there any known issues with the 2.0T that I should avoid or not? Is that the same 2.0 that was in the HHR SS and Cobalt SS? Third, what are all …

Driving home today, while passing by the friendly GM dealership in my neighborhood..where they also sell Cadillacs..this song came up on the radio (Yeah..no joke impeccable timing!!!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9zzqNjt6e4 Seeing several 2015 Cadillac ATSs on the lot on a clearance sale got me thinking... 1. Does a $38 000-$43 000 CDN Cadillac car equal a Cadillac? Especially when on the same lot resides a 2016 $60 000 Chevrolet Camaro SS (same platform for phoque's sake), a 2015 $45 000 Chevrolet Impala LTZ and a 2016 38 000 Chevrolet Malibu Premier... 2. Buick is GM's star in China, but Cadillac isn't far behind. Last year, Cadillac sales rose 17 percent to almost 80,000 vehicles. Consulting company LMC Automotive says the brand is poised to move ahead of Lexus in the country. Where can Cadillac attribute this rise in sales in China? Young buyers. The luxury brand says the average age for a buyer is 34 years old - slightly more than half of the average age of a Cadillac buyer in the U.S. "In China, young buyers already dominate the luxury market. Since Cadillac is a relative newcomer ... it was far easier to begin to cultivate the desired positioning for the brand from the get-go," said Cadillac President Johan de…

We are now starting to get the lo down on everything to expect from the 2017 Cadillac CT6 Plug-In Hybrid. Before now, the most popular and factual stories about it were that it was going to be produced in China at GM's shared (with SAIC) plant in Shanghai. What we know: - The vehicle will be powered by GM's 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder coupled with two electric motors. - The lithium-ion battery pack will share the Chevy Volt's 18.4 kilowatt-hour capacity - Full system horsepower is 449HP - 0-60 is expected to be 5.4 seconds. - Cadillac is also claiming an electric-only range of 37 miles. We also know that the CT6 won’t use the same batt…

Cadillac is getting ready to launch the new XT5 and it is only the beginning a new crossover offensive from the luxury brand. Speaking to Automotive News, Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen said a variation of the XT5's platform will be used for a new three-row crossover in the near future. "It's one of the benefits of having this very flexible architecture. We can expand it, make it longer and wider. That gives us the ability to develop the car very quickly, as opposed to starting from scratch," said de Nysschen. Despite some outlets reporting that Cadillac has begun testing the new crossover, de Nysschen said this project only began sometime last year. "It…

http://www.motortrend.com/news/comparison-audi-s6-4-0t-quattro-vs-cadillac-cts-v-sport-vs-lexus-gs-f/ To sum up, the Cadillac won very well, and it stood the test of time. Mainly, it was about delivering a solid blend of luxury and performance. And the Cadillac did it all, at a great price. I think that's what is great about the win. The Merecedes E Class was excluded because it's due to be replaced and the 5 Series didn't represent Europe as well as the A6. I think it shows maturity with design, that it can hold up after a few years pass by and the competitors try to catch up. A great win for the home team!

We've seen the coming XT5 peak out from behind the curtain a few times recently, but today, Cadillac finally took the wraps off the 2017 Cadillac XT5 Crossover in Dubai, UAE. Chassis and Power Replacing the SRX in the lineup, the new XT5 rides on a new chassis unique to Cadillac. Using the lightweight technology first shown in the Cadillac CT6, the new XT5 is better packaged with more interior room without adding weight. Compared to the outgoing SRX, the XT5 drops 278 pounds, making it 100 pounds lighter than the Audi Q5 and 650 pounds lighter than the Mercedes-Benz GLE. The wheel base is up 2 inches and track is increased 1 inch over the SRX. Rear seat legroom ha…

Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen is trying to sell Cadillac's lowest-volume dealers (selling 50 or less models in a year) on transitioning to a virtual showroom. Automotive News says de Nysschen outlined this concept to dealers last week during national brand meetings in Southern California. The concept involves a dealer going to a concierge-style approach where salespeople would visit prospective buyers either at home or work, equipped with a touchscreen device with vehicle configuration or virtual-reality units. Dealers who go with this concept will also not stock Cadillac vehicles. Instead, orders would be coming from regional inventory center. de Nysschen …

Back in December, we reported on the anomaly that is the Cadillac Escalade. The model represents a number of things the brand would like to leave behind - too much bling and sharing a platform with Chevrolet and GMC to name a couple. But it is also the model where Cadillac makes the most money and brings in buyers from German and Japanese luxury brands. "How do you balance the desire to bring it into alignment with where we're taking the brand and the equally intense desire not to screw up a good thing?" said Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen back in April. The answer appears to be not messing with the formula and just building on top of it. “The Escalade m…

As many of us suspected for a while, Cadillac has decided to not go forth with a second-generation ELR plug-in hybrid. "I plan to continue admiring it as one of the most beautiful cars on four wheels. But we don't plan further investment" in the coupe, Cadillac CEO Johan de Nysschen told reporters at a media event for the CT6. de Nysschen went on to say the ELR will still be sold as long as people want to buy it. Previously, Automotive News reported the ELR would stick around till 2018. The ELR was a victim of bad decisions. A key one pointed out by dealers was the starting price of $75,995 caused demand to drop sharply. For the 2016 model year, Cadillac s…

It has been awhile since we have heard anything on Cadillac's powertrain plans. But CEO Johan de Nysschen was in a talkative mood about it and Car and Driver was there to catch it. First is a V8 coming the CT6. The V8 will be a 4.2L and feature twin-turbos. This engine isn't based on GM's small-block architecture. The 4.2L displacement is interesting as competitors - mostly Germans - only go up to 4.0L to avoid Chinese taxes on high-displacement engines. Cadillac doesn't expect to sell many CT6s equipped with V8 in China, focusing more on the Plug-In Hybrid version for the market. Power is expected to be “in the upper 400s,” de Nysschen said. Car and Driver specul…

General Motors has plans to import a second vehicle from China to the U.S. It's not another Buick, but the new Cadillac CT6 Plug-In Hybrid. Bloomberg spoke with Cadillac’s chief marketing officer, Uwe Ellinghaus who revealed that the plug-in version would only be built in China. The standard CT6 would be built in the U.S. Why build the CT6 Plug-In Hybrid in China? GM believes with government incentives that encourage people and businesses to buy plug-in hybrids, the market for CT6 Plug-In Hybrid will be much higher. “That will be the largest market for electrified vehicles. The entry-level luxury class could be getting a model from Cadillac. Dave Leone, Cadillac executive chief engineer said in an interview with Road & Track that they are developing a new sedan to sit under ATS. "We are working on something below ATS," said Leone. Leone didn't go into further details about the vehicle but did say "one of our strengths in sedans is that we are known for being rear-wheel drive." Road & Track speculates the new sedan will use the Alpha rear-drive platform. This gives a Cadillac an edge as all of the entry-level luxury sedans are front-wheel drive based. But using Alpha introduces a big problem. As we have noted in our tw…

Cadillac finishes 2015 with a year over year increase of 7.5 % globally finishing the year 277,868, or 19,000 more than 2014. Cadillac’s ATS, along with the SRX set annual sales records. Cadillac's chief marketing officer, Uwe Ellinghaus isn't one to mince words. In a interview with Automobile Magazine, he labels the ELR as a disappointment. "Put it this way: The ELR's a big disappointment; there's no denying," said Ellinghaus. Ellinghaus explained the ELR "was the niche in the niche in the niche," and therefore appealed to a small audience. Not helping matters is the way Cadillac marketed the ELR a luxurious two-seater coupe has proved unsuccessful partly due to the coupe market shrinking. Many customers compared it to the Tesla Model S which offered more practicality. While there might not be a second-generation ELR, Ellinghaus says Cadillac…

The Cadillac Escalade is an anomaly for the brand. The model represents everything that Cadillac would like to leave behind, Shares the platform that Chevrolet and GMC use for their full-size SUVs Too Much Bling Nimble Performance is non-existant Hasn't sold in any real volume in other countries But the Escalade is the model that commands top dollar and brings in buyers who tend to go for German and Japanese luxury brands. The Cadillac XT5 will be the first model in a new crossover lineup for the brand. Next up is a compact crossover to take on the likes of the BMW X3 and Lexus NX according to Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen. But don't expect it anytime soon. de Nysschen said it would coming out in 2018. Following the compact crossover will be a large crossover that would take on the likes of the Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90. This model is expected in either the second half of 2018 or 2019. Wrapping up the crossover lineup could be a subcompact model that would compete with the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class. No word on when we could see that model. Source: Automotive News (Subsc…

When the Cadillac CT6 was originally shown in the US back in March, we only saw the standard gasoline models while the plug-in hybrid was shown in Shanghai. Cadillac brought it to the LA Auto Show with some updated information. First, let's review some information about the CT6 Plug-In. The Cadillac CT6 Plug-In uses the same type of liquid cooled batteries found in the Chevrolet Volt. It packs the same number of them as well, 192 cells. Unlike the Volt's T-shape battery configuration, the CT6's are stacked on top of each other directly over the rear axle. Naturally, total battery output also matches the Volt at 18.4 kWh of juice. This is more than double the batte…

The hot thing for luxury automakers aside from crossovers is building electric vehicles to take on the elephant in the room, the Tesla Model. But Cadillac will not be joining this craze, at least not in the near future. Speaking with Automotive News, Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen said the automaker will equip most of their lineup with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The decision comes down to tightening regulations, especially in China. "For us, the avenue to ensure that we are able to play in China is going to be through plug-in hybrids," said de Nysschen. There's also the benefit that plug-in hybrids are a bit more practical than EVs and the fear of runn…

So my nephew is a test drive consultant who racks many miles on new test vehicles that are at or near production build levels. He drives everything, currently mostly from Dodge/Chrysler and Cadillac, although he showed me several top drawer vettes as well. He is on prescribed routes and when near me, we meet up for dinner or lunch. Last Saturday he pulled up in a black CT6. Cadillac really has done a great job on this car. He took me for a short ride (against the rules, but I demanded it), and I got to dash fondle and take in all the details and surfaces and textures and materials. It is far better than CTS in every way, which makes me wonder how they will sell …

The 2016 Cadillac CTS-V is taking the German opposition with 640 horsepower coming from a supercharged 6.2L V8. But Automobile magazine is reporting that a more powerful version is coming. “The Cold War continues. I don’t know where it stops, but it’s not at 640 hp, that’s for sure,” said a source. Now the current CTS-V outguns the BMW M5 and Mercedes-AMG E63 by about 80 horsepower. But Cadillac believes the V8 is capable of producing more power. We'll be keeping an close eye on this story. The past year has seen autonomous vehicles making headlines with a number of technology companies such as Google and Apple working on their own vehicles. But Cadillac CEO Johan de Nysschen says autonomous vehicles shouldn't take away the act of driving to those who enjoy it. “Autonomous driving and driving passion must co-exist,” de Nysschen said to a group at the 10th annual J.D Power Automotive Marketing Roundtable in Las Vegas last week. “We’re after balance.” Standing in front of a picture of Google's autonomous prototype, de Nysschen said, “Many autonomous car (prototypes) emphasize sheer functionality. Cadillac announced today that the XT5 - replacement for the SRX crossover - will be making its worldwide debut at the Dubai Motor Show in November. Following this, the new Cadillac crossover will head to the LA Auto Show for its North American debut. "The XT5 will be the cornerstone of a series of crossovers bearing the 'XT' designation," the automaker said in a statement. The XT5 has some big shoes to fill as the SRX was Cadillac's most popular model sold worldwide. Previous reports has the SRX using a 2.0T four-cylinder and 3.6L V6 for power, and being available with front or all-wheel drive. Source: Cadillac View full article

What We KnowThe 2016 CT6 is not Cadillac’s flagship, General Motors product chief Mark Reuss says. That role will be given to an even larger rear-wheel-drive sedan coming within four years. While the Cadillac CT6 is a bit bigger than a short-wheelbase BMW 7 Series, we expect the so-called CT8 to be slightly larger than the long-wheelbase Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The CT8, like the CT6, will ride on the new Omega platform, which employs GM’s patented process for welding aluminum. If the CT6 is any guide, the CT8 will be hundreds of pounds lighter than the S-Class. But the CT8 will be more than a long-wheelbase version of the CT6. Its styling should be more stately and upright…

Cadillac's boss Johan de Nysschen has a plan to rehabilitate Cadillac's image. Part of this plan deals with the dealers with tightening inventory and end the sell-at-any-cost mentality. But as Automotive News reports, there is a slight problem as Cadillac's dealer incentive programs promote the opposite. One incentive attaches $700 in dealer bonus money to every Cadillac vehicle they order from the factory, while another has cash payouts for growing sales. “The business model has been structured more for the bigger brands inside General Motors, rather than the small Cadillac brand,” said de Nysschen. “The luxury business is different.” de Nysschen instead …

General Motors’ prestige luxury brand, Cadillac, is in the process of a well-known transformation, laying down a solid foundation for growth well into the future. And despite declining sales volume, Cadillac is reaping (some of) the fruits from its labor by seeing an increase in average transaction prices. The average transaction price (ATP) for Cadillacs sold in June in the U.S. market topped $52,000, a $7,000 — or 15 percent — increase over the same period a year ago. The brand attributes the increase to ongoing product enhancements that are “transforming the brand and elevating its position in the luxury marketplace”. “Our goals are to improve the quality of the busi…

Looking at this comparison report with the BMW 325e and the Mercedes 190E, the little Caddy comes out not too bad. Even 30 years ago the German car buyer would never have considered a Caddy, regardless of how good it was. General Motors announced this week that it would be investing $245 million and adding 300 new jobs at its Orion Assembly plant - home of the Chevrolet Sonic, Buick Verano, and soon to be Chevrolet Bolt. Now this investment is for an "all-new vehicle program unlike any in the plant's 32-year history." So what could this vehicle be? Motor Trend reports that a source says the program is "a future crossover with no predecessor" and that "the gaps in [Cadillac's] product lineup are obvious." So in other words, the possible program is a small Cadillac crossover. Now we have been hearing and reporting that Cadillac is planning to have a range of crossovers in the next f…

Test Drive: 2016 Cadillac ATS-V takes on the BMW M3by Horatiu Boeriu When Cadillac unveiled the ATS-V at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, the automotive world was eager to see how it fares against the new BMW M3 and M4. After all, the ATS-V used the almighty E90/E92 M3 as a benchmark in order to build a sports car that doesn’t have to compromise between driving on the road and on the track. To see how the ATS-V stacks up against the F80 M3 and F82 M4, we headed to Road America race track in Wisconsin, with a pit stop in Milwaukee for some back-roads driving. Before jumping in the car, we spent some time with Cadillac’s folks to learn more about the development of the ATS-V T…

You don't hear a lot of executives admit when they or their company has made a blunder. When they do, it comes as a bit of a shock and helps you realize they are somewhat human. Case in point is Cadillac's marketing chief Uwe Ellinghaus telling Bloomberg they bit off bit a more than they could chew with the ELR pricing. "The MSRP was, indeed, a mouthful. We overestimated that customers would realize our competitors were naked at that price," said Ellinghaus. So why did Cadillac price the ELR so high? Well product planners believed if the ELR was close to the price of the Chevrolet Volt, people would go for the Volt. Also, the high price was seen as to signal this …

Imagine you are a dealer sitting in a meeting and the head of the brand that you sell tells everyone that sales will get worse before they get better. Well that was what Johan de Nysschen, Cadillac's president told dealers last summer. Now dealers are getting a first look at 'worse' looks like. Automotive News that a number of dealers have lost on incentive cash in the first quarter because they missed sales targets set by GM. Discounts and lease offers have also dried up as well. Previously, Cadillac offered deals on the ATS and CTS to help remove the massive stock sitting on dealer lots. This is reflected in Cadillac's sales. ATS dropped 23 percent, while the CTS saw …

Car and Driver have gotten some intriguing information about what Cadillac is looking at for the future with their V-Series and powertrains. We'll start with V-Series. Now as we reported before, Cadillac is planning on adding more V-Series models. Some of those could be higher-performance versions of current models - something akin to Black Series for Mercedes-Benz AMG models. When asked about this, Cadillac's chief engineer David Leone said, “We might have something down the road that is a little bit more aggressive.” A source says a we could see something with this idea in 2017. No hint was given as to what model could be in the cards. Our guess is that it would be th…

Johan de Nysschen, head of Cadillac revealed that when the lifecycle of the XTS ends, there will be no replacement. 2015 will mark the launch of two Cadillac V-Series models; the ATS-V and CTS-V. But there will more V-Series models in the cars according Cadillac's chief engineer. “The ‘V’ will be on more models than today,” said Dave Leone, chief engineer for GM's luxury brand to The Detroit Bureau. Which cars will get the V treatment is unknown at the moment, but Leone says they will not go crazy with it. “Don’t expect to see an Escalade-V, or an SRX-V. We will focus on platforms which lend themselves to performance driving,” said Leone. Speculation at the moment has CT6 being the next model to get the V treatment. Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen is known for slipping out little bits of information. Case in point was earlier today when an analyst in a Facebook group said Cadillac would axing the V8 from most of their models aside from Cadillac CTS-V and Escalade. Johan joined the discussion and went on to correct this by stating that there will be a new V8 engine that will be purpose built for Cadillac. In Johan's words, "There absolutely will be another state -of - the -art mega powerful highly efficient new 8- cylinder from Cadillac, besides the CTS- V engine. Purpose designed for Cadillac....the V8 Cadillac is alive and well today, and will be in even better shape tomorrow."…

The fate of the Cadillac ELR has been up in the air with no real updates to the model since it was introduced in the 2014 model year, and Cadillac's boss saying there will likely not be a second-generation model. But at least for the time being, Cadillac has introduced some new changes for the 2016 model. No real big changes on the ELR's exterior, only a tweaked grille and wreath-less crest. But the powertrain has seen some big changes. New software upgrades boost power output from 207 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque to 233 horsepower and 373 pound-feet. The increase in power drops 0-60 MPH time by 1.5 seconds to 6.4 seconds and top speed is increased to 130 MPH …

The replacement for the Cadillac SRX is expected to be shown this fall, possibly at the LA Auto Show. The Detroit News reports that the next SRX will likely be wearing the XT name, along with a number to designate where it stands in the lineup. Many analysts believe that the SRX replacement will be named the XT5. The SRX has proven to be a big seller for the brand since it moved to the front-wheel drive Theta platform. Last year, Cadillac moved 53,578 SRX models. But the model is getting long in the tooth. Sales so far this year have dropped 17.5 percent to 12,294 vehicles. "Cadillac's current SRX is one of the oldest products in the segment. The XT5 is part of Cadillac…

Cadillac released the details of the upcoming 2016 Cadillac CTS-V to be shown at the Detroit Auto Show on January 13th, 2015. Capable of 200 mph, the supercharged 6.2 liter V-8 produces 640 hp at 6400 rpm and 630 lb-ft of torque at 3600 rpm, an increase of 84 hp and 79 lb-ft over the current model. The 0-60 time drops by two-tenths of second to 3.7 seconds. The new 6.2 liter employs a 1.7 liter super charger and adds direct injection and cylinder deactivation, premium fuel is required. Cadillac brags that these power numbers are greater than both the Mercedes-Benz 5.5L bi-turbo V8 and the 4.4L twin-turbo V8 from BMW. Getting all of that power to the ground is an 8-speed …

Will the new Cadillac CT6 have the rakish, expressive styling of the Elmiraj show car, or will it be a conservative evolution of the luxury brand’s current design language? While those questions will linger probably until the CT6 is unveiled later in 2015, AUTOMOBILE has learned this about the sedan, which uses General Motors’ new Omega full-size rear-wheel-drive platform: It will have an aluminum body. The Cadillac CT6, which will be a bit smaller than a Mercedes-Benz S-Class but larger than the midsize CTS, also will be the first to use an engine, or engines, from GM’s upcoming four-/six-/eight-cylinder family. We have learned that while a CT6 Vsport has been approved …

Its been a few months since we heard anything about the upcoming Cadillac XT5, the replacement for the SRX crossover. But the folks at Automobile Magazine got their hands on some new spy shots of the XT5 undergoing cold weather testing. As we have previously reported, the XT5 will utilize the upcoming C1XX - Chi platform. Judging from the new spy shots, it looks like the XT5 will keep the slanted grille, but it looks like it will get stacked LED lights. It also appears XT5's profile will become somewhat shorter, but grow in terms of interior space. Powertrains are expected to be the 2.0L turbo-four and 3.6L V6, while front and all-wheel drive will handle getting that po…

Finally Cadillac, has leadership that inspires confidence. I love it. Despite the constant berating of the detractors, Johan is seemingly pushing forth. Despite the actual desire of some for Cadillac to bow down to the Germans and except a place under them we have a foreign born leader saying "No.. We will rise back to our lofty position on TOP." It is impossible to compare ATS sales to 3series sales unless the variances of both are at least 80% the same. These type of things are only reserved for Cadillac though.. and never brands such as Audi or Jag. It is funny when U think about those two, as both are currently in a similar sales fashion as Cadillac, with one of the…

15 months ago, Cadillac announced that it would be raising the price of the new CTS. This move worried dealers as it would cause buyers to look away. It seems their fears were founded as sales of the CTS this past year dropped 3.8 percent when compared to last year. Cadillac is doing something about that. Automotive News got their hands on a memo issued to Cadillac dealers yesterday which announced that it would reduce sticker prices on most 2015 CTS models by $1,000 to $3,000. It also plans on increasing the amount of standard features in the CTS. "We're taking what we've seen are the more desirable optional features for customers and making them more readily available…

Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen has a problem with the brand's dealers, specifically how many there are. According to data gathered by Autodata Corp and The Detroit News, Cadillac currently has 928 dealers in the U.S. A large number when compared to competitors in the luxury class such as Audi (281 dealers) and Mercedes-Benz (364). Factor in total sales for year and Cadillac finishes last with each dealer selling an average of 184 vehicles (170,750 vehicles sold for the year). This pales in comparison with the likes of Audi (648 vehicles sold last year per dealer) and Mercedes-Benz (978 vehicles sold last year per dealer). "With our very large dealer network … we so…

If you were hoping that Cadillac would sprinkle some of the design from the Elmiraj concept for the upcoming CT6 flagship, prepare to be disappointed. GM's vice-president of global design, Ed Welburn, tells Automotive News that the CT6 will not be influenced by the Elmiraj. Instead the CT6 will stick with the art and science design theme found on current Cadillacs. “I think Elmiraj was more of an influence on some other things we’re working on for Cadillac,” said Welburn. “It’ll be different and it will certainly stand out in the portfolio. But you won’t see a real shift in direction.” We'll see if there is a real shift when the CT6 debuts next year at the New York Auto…

Since Cadillac has brought in Johan de Nysschen as its new president, the decisions made by him - such as the CT/XT nomenclature and moving some of their staff to New York - have caused many to experience a range of emotions from happiness to outrage. So we don't know how many people are going to feel about de Nysschen's thoughts about Cadillac in the future that he talked with a couple of outlets at the LA Auto Show. First up is Reuters who reports that that de Nysschen sees Cadillac selling a $250,000 luxury sedan, but not anytime soon. "It is too early today for a $250,000 Cadillac. Fifteen years from now, it won't be," said de Nysschen. Next up is Car and Driver wh…
