Saw a Chevy Spark yesterday, driving down the QEW in Burlington. It was silver, and had damage to the driver's side front quarter panel. Plates had very small writing on them that I could not read, and I did not recognize the plates as any of the normal Ontario or Michigan plate types. What's going on with this??

Rumorpile - 2-Door Cruze Coming Soon To Orion Assembly? William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com June 27, 2011 General Motors is very happy with the Chevrolet Cruze. The compact sedan became America’s best-selling compact for the month of May and the Lordstown, OH Assembly pant has been at full capacity trying to get vehicles out the door. With all of this good news, rumors have began coming up about GM adding another body to the Cruze lineup. Sources say that GM is looking at whether to add Cruze Coupe to help boost the appeal of the vehicle. GM's North America President, Mark Reuss has been dropping hints about a possible coupe. 2012 Chevrolet Corvette Lineup See Their Prices Go Up William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com June 14, 2011 If you have your heart set on new 2012 Chevrolet Corvette, you might want to make sure you have enough money. Corvette Blogger recently went through GM's RPO for the 2012 Corvette and found out prices are going up. The MSRP for most Corvette models goes up anywhere from $480-$1,150. Only one model, the Corvette ZR1 sees a drop in it's MSRP. Yes, its only $75, but hey its still a drop. In addition, prices for the Equipment Group packages are on the up. The 2LT coupe will rise $1,195 to $2,095 while the 3LT coupe jumps from $4,205 to $5,9…

It's no secret that the Corvette's demographic is somewhere in the 50s, and the younger crowd does have a few negative connotations associated with it, namely that it's the default purchase of balding men going through a mid-life crisis and having a need to compensate for "other" shortcomings. How do we fix that? How should Chevy lower the buying age of the Corvette? How do we get in their 20s and 30s to sell their souls on a loan for a Corvette as opposed to, say, an M3 or G37? Should Chevy even bother?

How Much Is A Volt Worth In Three Years? William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com May 17, 2011 So you just bought a brand new Chevrolet Volt and are wondering how much it will be worth within three years. Well, Kelly Blue Book has figured out and answer. They said, the 2011 Chevrolet Volt will be worth $17,000 after 36 months. That's only 42% of the Volt's $41,000 MSRP. Eric Ibara, director of residual value consulting at KBB said the projected residual value is on the low side. But, Ibara points out the first 200,000 Volts will be offered with a $7,500 rebate dropping the MSRP to $33,500. Using the $33,500 MSRP and KBB believing gas prices wi…

Month 3 update for Volt 1712: A sense of normalcy and routine has set in for me as the Volt completes month 3. No issues or problems to report. My employer installed electric charge stations late last year and I was the first to use them starting in March. This month, I've been joined by two other Volts. The stations are in the Visitors parking lot, so many folks do a double take when they see the Volts parked there as it's still not a typical sight to see. As I mentioned last month, I've been driving in Low/SPORT and have reached a high of 51.7 miles in EV mode for one charge. I traveled 747 miles in May and used less than a gallon of gas (0.7). As of June 1st, …

"We have a cost reduction plan all the way through 2020 and Generation 3. Chevrolet Cruze Gains for 2012 Drew Dowdell - CheersandGears.com May 16th, 2011 Being only one year on the market, we wouldn't expect too many changes for Chevy's new compact car. However, Chevy isn't going to sit still on this one. The biggest news is that on Cruze's equipped with the 1.4 liter turbo and automatic transmission gain 2mpg in highway fuel economy. Unfortunately, they don't explain how they do it. There are no axle ratio changes or engine updates listed. The final drive ratio is switching from 3.83 to a 3.53 while other cogs in the 6-speed auto are all getting different ratios as well. (scroll down in thread for details) For those of you who want to r…

On Wednesday, GM announced they will build 1,000 more Volts for this model year, bringing the total to about 16,000 Volts. GM also announced that production will increase from 45,000 to 60,000 vehicles for 2012 and will begin building the Opel Ampera for the European and Chinese markets. GM Gives Nissan A Piece Of Their Mind With A Recent Leaf Ad William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com May 28, 2011 This week, Nissan launched a new ad wondering what the world would look like if everything ran on gasoline. GM Issues Two Recalls For The Cruze William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com May 5, 2011 GM has issued two new recalls for their hot-selling Chevrolet Cruze. The first recall has 154,122 Cruzes coming in for an inspection of intermediate steering shaft covers to see if they were installed correctly. This is the second recall issued for the Cruze's steering. Last month, 2,100 Cruzes were recalled after a customer had a steering wheel detach from the steering column. Recall number two is for 120,295 Cruzes equipped with a automatic transmission. The problem stems from an issue where the transmission is in gear, but the vehicle shows it in a anot…

Here's the April update on Volt 1712: With the weather warming up here in CT, I am easily seeing 40+ miles in EV range, with a high so far of 48 miles. Staying off the highway and sticking with the back roads is the easiest way to see the higher mileage because of regenerative charge back to the battery during coasting and braking. This isn't always possible or practical or course, and I don't take the back roads just to extend the EV range. I still continue to drive in SPORT mode and have found it has not reduced my range. I'm also experimenting with driving in Low (in lieu of Drive). Some Volt owners on the Voltage site have indicated that driving in Low has exte…

Did A Chevrolet Volt Cause A Garage Fire? William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 16, 2011 A Chevrolet Volt is under suspicion as the cause of a garage fire in Barkhamsted, Connecticut. The fire which engulfed a garage took 50 firefighters to put out. "I walked outside and looked in the garage door and it was flaming. I grabbed a pocketbook so I'd have a cellphone and a driver's license and a jacket and a pair of slacks. I had no shoes, my feet were freezing," said Dee Connors, owner. Investigators are now working on what caused the fire. Along with the Volt, investigators are also looking at the other electric vehicle in the garage …

My uncle in Grand Rapids is one of the first 2 in that side of the state to get one. He came down to our place today with his black Volt. He's had it for 3 weeks. Got to take it for a spin. Nice driving car. When first powered up and pulling out of the driveway it was on battery until getting on the road and starting to accelerate (keep in mind I'm over 2 hours away from his place so the battery was already depleted). Only when I started slowing down for the stop sign did I hear the motor running. When did accelerate hard for a stretch and you could then hear the motor rev up higher due to the harder acceleration. Regardless the motor was very quit in every condition. You…

This prediction for the Ecotec 2.5T is based on the new 2.5 liter engine announced for the Malibu. This represents a viable direction GM may take with regards to providing V6 equivalent power from a 4-cylinder. The focus is on attaining a power level similar to the high output versions of the 2.0T (LNF), while rendering maximum torque at the lowest possible rpm, maximizing fuel economy and retaining 87 octane compatibility. The solution combines increased compression and displacement with lower boost levels. The new 2.5 liter block is especially suited for this recipe because it has a 88mm bore along with a 96mm bore spacing. The resulting 8mm wall thickness is not partic…

The idea here is not to produce the ultimate gas savings or the highest performance. Instead it is a Mild Hybrid which combines amicable fuel consumption with lively driving characteristics. The system is avoids the weight and cost burden of a big battery, while benefiting from an efficient asymmetric combustion cycle. The price premium will be in the order of $1000 over a turbo Malibu, while the driving experience -- especially in daily driving regimes in the idle to 4000 rpm range -- will be similar to a 3 liter V6. Greetings, I am Chester i am writing you today as I have a problem with my 2006 Chevrolet Impala LS. I am hoping you can help me solve my problem in a way that does not cost much money as I hate paying high prices at the mechanic when I can fix it in my garage. Recently, my automobile began making the reminder noise at random times it has now become almost a constant sound while I am driving. Usually, turning up the radio is a good enough solution for me now the noise almost never stops. The sound is like the sound when the car door is open or when you forget to fasten your safety belt. Corvette To Be Built Elsewhere? William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com April 4, 2011 Could the Corvette be moving from it's home in Bowling Green, Kentucky? That's the question Corvette fans and workers at the Corvette plant are asking. A report from NBC affiliate WLEX in Lexington says the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority authorized a $7.5 million tax break for a possible expansion at the plant costing $131 million. Mandy Lambert, spokewoman for the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority said the approval "outlines the state's support for the project, should it happen." However, Bowling Green Plant spokeswoman Andrea…

Chevrolet Celebrates Its Centennial By Showing The Mi-Ray William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 31, 2011 Chevrolet Mi-Ray Concept Gallery Chevrolet has pulled the covers off the Mi-ray Concept at the Seoul Motor Show this week. The Mi-ray (Korean for 'future') is a sharp looking hybrid roadster celebrating Chevrolet's centennial. The design of the Mi-ray is influenced by classic Chevrolet models including the 1962 Corvair Super Spyder and 1963 Monza SS. Powertrain wise, the Mi-ray has a pair of front mounted 15-kilowatt electric motors, mated to a 1.6-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack. The electric motors provide power for init…

Picked up my Volt on March 10th. Volt #1712. Black w/black cloth interior. The only option are the polished wheels, which look great with black exterior and the other touches of chrome trim. Each Volt displays their build number as part of the NAV screen display. I'm not sure if that will always be the case or only for the first model year. I had no real intention of getting one, I had been monitoring my local dealers through CARS.com to see if there was one within 50 miles of me, just so I could see one and perhaps test drive. No dealers had one in JAN or FEB. In early MAR one showed up at a local dealer. I went down on a Saturday to check it out. I was told it…

Chevrolet Colorado Show Truck Revealed William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 21, 2011 Chevrolet Colorado Show Truck Gallery GM has pulled the covers off the Chevrolet Colorado Show Truck before making its official debut at the 32nd Bangkok International Motor Show starting March 25th. The Colorado show truck's design carries traits seen on other Chevrolet models like the Equinox. The front end features a two-tier grille with wraparound headlights, LED running lamps, and a extractor vent on the hood. An aerodynamic "cab collar" design ties the cab and bed together. The bed has a hard tonneau cover, helping improve fuel economy and se…

GM Teases Us With The New Chevrolet Colorado William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 7, 2011 Take a close look at this teaser photo GM released of the new Chevrolet Colorado. The truck will make it's official debut in a show guise at the 32nd Bangkok International Motor Show running from March 25 to April 5. “Trucks play a key role in most Southeast Asian markets. Nowhere is this more evident than in Thailand, where trucks like the Colorado are ingrained in the local lifestyle. Thailand was a natural place to give the public a first glimpse of our all-new Colorado,” said Susan Docherty, vice president, GMIO Sales, Marketing and Aftersa…

With the sporty Land Rover Evoke and Mini Paceman coming onto the scene as CUV "coupes", is it possible we'll eventually see a few 2-door crossovers back on the market from the domestic manufacturers in the future? A 2-door Equinox with a more rakish roofline, sportier, larger wheels and more power underhood would be a cool specimen. I'd like to see it, because if the bad days are truly behind them, GM needs to get back to producing some sporty, fun variations on their current offerings.

http://www.insideline.com/ford/focus/2012/comparison-test-2011-chevrolet-cruze-ltz-vs-2012-ford-focus-titanium.html It's obvious that they would give the win to the Focus but I'm going to play devil's advocate on a few points... -MyFordTouch has been universally panned as overly complicated by numerous sources... Certainly moreso than the Cruze's NAV system -In my humble opinion the Cruze has a MUCH more classy and refined looking interior than the Focus. I think it's ugly... In the case of the blurple color scheme, possibly deal-breaker ugly; every other review says (contrary to IL) that the Cruze in fact has the better quality plastics. While we're on the subject t…

Chevrolet Cruze Gets A Diesel For 2013 William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com February 19, 2011 Last fall, GM executive Tom Stephens said at the Directions in Engine-Efficiency and Emissions Research (DEER) conference that a GM vehicle would come with a diesel engine. Two vehicles immediately came to mind; the Buick Regal and Chevrolet Cruze. Now, we know what vehicle it will be: the 2013 Chevrolet Cruze. Management told workers at the Lordstown, OH plant about the news last week. The workers were also told production for the diesel Cruze would begin sometime next year. Documents have the diesel engine with the option code of "LUZ" on t…

http://www.autoblog.com/2011/02/07/2012-chevy-impala-to-soldier-on-with-new-v6-replacement-delayed/ That would be... interessting if it proves to be true. On the other hand the sources are quetionable. The 3.5 and 3.9 v6s arent used in anything else though at this point so maybe there is a grain of truth to this. I always heard that the 6 speed tranny wouldn't fit or there was some sort of complication with it and the W-body.

How much do we know about the 2012 Cruze and Sonic, and when will we find out any information? I'd like to see specs on the Sonic (I'd actually like to drive one, but I don't know when the SOP is) as well as changes to the Cruze. I think I'm going to end up replacing my car at the end of this year and, as much as I'd like a new Mustang, I will most likely have to settle for a less expensive car that is better on gas. These are my options.

Next-gen Malibu Still A Year Off For the U.S. Chris Doane - CheersandGears.com January 27, 2011 If you were hoping to drive the next-generation Chevy Malibu this summer, you'll need to ask yourself one question. "Do I live in the United States?" If you answered yes, call your travel agent and make sure your passport is up-to-date. Any summer wheelin' in the new Malibu will require a quick hop to Korea. Earlier today, GM announced to several of its' suppliers that the start of regular production for the U.S. market Chevy Malibu would be in early January of 2012. If that seems like a long wait, count your blessings. The original timeline didn't have produc…

This is a Hypothetical Vehicle which combines most of the Cruze Eco's modifications to a revised power train. The goal is to achieve superior fuel economy to the standard LT / LTZ models, while offering improved performance and retaining the automatic transmission (a quintessential feature to most US consumers). From a performance stand point, this is no Cobalt SS. Rather, it is in the same class as an Acura TSX. The XFS -- standing for Xtra Fuel-economy Sport -- is positioned above the LTZ and comes with all the LTZ's amenities at a $1000 premium over the LTZ. The XFS uses the Cruze ECO as a starting point. Here's what we keep and what we change:- Center Head Rest D…

Not Your Typical Volt Review Gene Weingarten is not your typical automotive journalist. that's because he isn't one. In fact by his own admission he has very little knowledge of the automotive world. What Weingarten is however, is a two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning writer for The Washington Post. He also has a preexisting bias against American cars, and went into the review with a disdain for the Volt. He wanted very badly to hate the car. However what he found in actuality was not what he expected. Head over to his review, and have a good read. Its worth the five pages. Gene and the Machine: The shocking truth about the electric Volt

The Chevrolet Germany website went live this week with the build your own page for the 2011 Chevrolet Orlando. One year after GM killed the latest reincarnation of the El Camino — the Pontiac G8 ST — we've learned that the "Ute" still may live. And if it does, it'll be a Chevy. When writing up our story on rumors out of Australia that Chevy would potentially get a rear wheel drive Zeta-platformed sedan, we hinted at our desire to have them also bring over a version of the loved-by-many Holden Commodore Ute — or even the Chevrolet Lumina SS Ute (pictured above) from South Africa. It looks like GM might have been listening. We've now learned from three sources that the General's product planners are noodling the idea of bringing the "Ute" to the United States. The vehicle would ab…

Think Australia’s the king of the performance ute? Think again. South African tuning house LupiniPower is currently putting its Holden SS Ute-based Lupini Chevrolet SuperUte through an accelerated development and testing program, and word is it’s passing with flying colours. The standard Holden SS Ute gets 270kW and 530Nm out of its 6.0-litre V8 engine. For the SuperUte, Lupini has added a supercharger to make it more like the engine found in the Corvette ZR1. The result is a staggering 400kW of power and an almighty 785Nm (578lb/ft) of torque. That’s an extra 130kW/255Nm – or slightly more than adding the engine from a Volkswagen Golf 118TSI to the Holden. Accelera…

Inside Line: our Chevy Volt's battery miles cost more than the gas ones AutoBlog We often, though sometimes incorrectly, assume that it's cheaper to operate an electric vehicle than a comparable gasoline auto. Hey, who hasn't? While this assumption generally holds true, electrical rates vary widely across the nation and can throw off the numbers. In some instances, like when Inside Line's engineering editor, Jason Kavanagh, drove the Chevrolet Volt out in sunny California, one discovers that operating a vehicle powered by electricity can indeed cost more than running it with the liquid fuel that pours from a pump. Kavanagh explained how he discovered that operating a Vo…

Chevrolet Volt Named Motor Trend 2011 Car of the Year DETROIT – Motor Trend magazine, one of the world's premier automotive authorities, today named the Chevrolet Volt the 2011 Motor Trend Car of the Year. "We expected a science experiment, but this is a moon shot," Motor Trend editors wrote for the January 2011 issue. "The Volt delivers on the promise of the vehicle concept as originally outlined by GM, combining the smooth, silent, efficient, low-emissions capability of an electric motor with the range and flexibility of an internal combustion engine. It is a fully functional, no-compromise compact automobile that offers consumers real benefits in t…

GM just announced the official MPG numbers for the Cruze Eco model: http://media.gm.com/content/media/us/en/news/news_detail.brand_gm.html/content/Pages/news/us/en/2010/Nov/1111_cruze_eco This pretty much confirms something I have been saying for years -- reducing displacement has a very small and sometimes intangible effect on fuel economy. Other factors such as weight, aerodynamics, transmission efficiency and friction within the engine has a greater bearing on mpg numbers. If you look at the automatic numbers and compare it to that of the Ford Focus which has a 2.0L engine, you'll notice that it is but 1~2 mpg off. Given that the non-Eco 1.4T Cruze (Automatic) is …

I was in a Ford dealer this weekend. The salesman was talking up their new engines for 2011, saying he got to test drive a ecoboost V6 and of course it was the best thing ever! Any news on GM's Gen V V8's? Are they going to be introduced prior to the 2013 redesign or will GM have upgraded engines out sooner to compete with Ford's new offerings? I'm planning on upgrading my Sierra sometime but haven't been impressed enough with anything to warrant the cost.
