Link: http://www.edmunds.com/future/2007/chevrol...v..0.Chevrolet* What Edmunds.com Says: With GM quickly falling behind its competitors in the full-size truck segment, look for GM to pull out all the stops to assure that this Silverado has everything it needs to compete. What We Know: Major changes will be necessary on this stalwart design in order to keep it competitive against its longtime rival, the F-150, in addition to relative newcomers such as the Nissan Titan and next-generation Toyota Tundra. When the new Silverado appears, probably in 2007, it will feature a far more elegant cabin than the current model along with a new GMT-900 platform. A more powerful …

Since it's dayview, I haven't thought too much of this vehicle. After reading about it in the latest M/T mag I not anymore of a fan than before. What was GM thinking when designing this vehicle? Why the I-5 for one? Why isn't it just based off the Trailblazer with the 4.2? 14cty/19hwy is hardly good milage for a low output I-5 so using that motor for milage is no excuse. It's off road capability's rated well but that's where it stopped. It's slow, underpowered, can only tow 4500lbs for the price of a full size truck or decently equipped Avalanche. $30k base and $38k loaded!

Someone brought this up on the "old" C&G......I sat in my first Impala yesterday (LTZ, silver, with ebony leather) and was shocked at the (lack of) quality of the interior materials!!!! Although the black interior looked sharp, the plastic on the dash and lower door panels is a shiny, hard plastic. In fact, the hard plastic is so shiny, it contrasts with the (actually nice) soft plastic on the dash top and tops of the door panels. WHY can't GM get it RIGHT...???? AARRGGGHHH! AND, I actually really like the Impala overall....so this really frustrates me.... Honda, Toyota, and Nissan can now show how to do hard plastics that look …

Just got my Dec M/T mag today. If you don't have a subscription, pick one up at the news stand. Main article is the Z06 vs Ford GT vs Dodge Viper. All back to back tested in the same conditions. The GT was quickest with a 11.5 ET but the ZO6 was nipping at it's front bumper with a 11.6 ET. The Viper was slowest of the 3. But while the Z only got beat by .1 in the 1/4 miles, it bested the Viper and GT's cornering, slalom, track lap time and braking distance... all for $68k vs $166k of the GT. Also (we're not done yet) is a article of the Pontiac Solstice vs Mazda MX5 and Charger SRT8 vs Pontiac GTO.

I saw 2 new Impalas on the lot at my local dealer the other day, and I have a few questions about ordering models and options.. One of the cars was a Black SS with light grey leather interior, but it had the woodgrain dash applique instead of the Chrome-ish stuff that I thought was specific to the SS. Can you order an SS with the woodgrain dash, or one of the other models with the chrome? The other car on the lot was a dark gray "3LT" that also had the light gray leather, but it also had the 3.9 V6; I thought that the 3.9 was specific only to the LTZ... this car had LTZ wheels and stickered out at over $28K; seems to me that if you can order a "3LT&…

since we all know that the Colorado/Canyon and especially the Hummer H3 could really use a V6 engine, would it be possible to offer the 3.9L V6 thats used in the impala/Monte carlo in these?? of course it would have to be mounted diffrently, but if they are planning on bringing back the camaro it would probably use the 3.9L as its base engine, so they would need to engineer it for rwd anyways..

from Newsday: Tom Incantalupo ROAD TEST Chevy’s big new V-8 Impala is in a power class of its own It's an exaggeration to say that the Chevrolet Impala SS has no equal. But, for the money, the 303-hp. V-8-powered SS has no direct competition. There are few other front-wheel-drive cars available with V-8s. One, the Pontiac Grand Prix, is smaller. The new Cadillac DTS and upcoming Buick Lucerne are more expensive, and, as of the end of the '05 model year, the Pontiac Bonneville is gone. The Cadillac STS V-8 and the V-8 sedans from Ford and Chrysler are rear-drivers. V-8 sedans from Audi, Lexus, Infiniti, Mercedes, Jaguar and Volkswagen are rear-drivers or a…

Corvette Timeline This is a cool webpage. Back before I joined C&G, I would frequently visit this site to get the latest on C6 Corvette info. It inevitably lead me here. Now that all of the C6 is out, it is a great referrence of past concepts, prototypes, spy shots, and renderings; mostly of the C6. C7 speculation had started, as well as some Blue Devil talk, but its been a long time since I last visited it and it seems that it hasn't changed much. Anyways, it's interesting to look back at the speculation. Check it out.

I posted the following photoshop rendering on the old C&G and recieved surprisingly positive feedback in doing so. My idea was simple. Instead of applying a mildly revised '06 Impala front-end and slightly reworked rear to the current Monte Carlo, I suggested that Chevy simply replace the model altogether with a coupe variant of the Impala. The Monte Carlo name would be dropped in favor of 'Impala Coupe' badging. Styling aside, the current MC is little more than an Impala coupe anyway. In essence, the resulting model would not only be a more attractive car from a styling standpoint, but further damage to the Monte Carlo moniker would be limited until a more s…

Hey all, still relatively new to the forums but wanted your opinions on this. It has become a chip on my shoulder to read articles in magazines that downplay the domestics (namely in the 4 door and SUV segments). Question is this, with the Tahoe coming in next year, do you guys think that the magazine editors will either A. Commend it, give it a thumbs and and realize that domestics are making a move towards the imports throats. or B. Nitpick it, talk bad about it and give it a 3rd place or worse in a comparison test behind the Toyota Sequoia, 4runner, Honda Pilot, Nissan Pathfinder or otherwise. My concern isn't that the General wont make a strong showing with …

n a flashback to the 1980s, high gas prices pushed smaller cars to the top of the list of biggest percentage sales gains in September. Among the biggest gainers are models not normally in the limelight: Dodge Neon, Chevrolet Malibu and Nissan Sentra. I admit it ... I'm not all that enthusiastic about Chevrolet's current lineup, given that Chevrolet is offering FWD versions of what they claim to be the malibu, impala and monte carlo. So, I'm not sure what exactly possessed me to visit Huntley (IL) Chevrolet ... the dealership that showcases a '49 Chevrolet in its showroom ... this past Friday night. I think it was a combination of curiosity, the employee discount's final hours, and that I was itching to get into a showroom again. I test drove a Cobalt during my short time there and was pleasantly surprised/impressed. My eyes also captured a glimpse of an '06 impala. Yes, I felt disdain/di…

Can't beleive it!! First I saw a Yukon factory test vehicle on the Hwy last Thursday and today I was driving getting ready to turn onto the Hwy and here comes a all white '07 Tahoe!! No tape, no camo... just like you'd see it on the showroom. I recognized it from a few hundred feet down the road. These new GMT-900's are distinctive. When I saw the Yukon last week I recognized the tail lights from a distance and it was starting to get dusk when I saw it. So this "it looks like an expedition" bs is just bs in my opinion. Maybe in pics on the internet but they are distinctive out on the road in person.

NASHVILLE — The 2006 Chevrolet Impala is a solid alternative to Honda Accord and Toyota Camry, considered benchmarks among family sedans. Styling is taut and almost resembles Accord's. Road personality is composed with a hint of sportiness. Comfort is high. Stupidity is low. An optional V-8 engine offers something the Japanese brands don't. A rich complement of standard features — head-curtain air bags, a trip computer, an iPod/MP3 plug, three sets of child-seat latches, OnStar telecommunications and emergency notification service — give Impala advantages over even some higher-price competitors. Thoughtful options — rear seats that flip and fold instead …

Driving North on US-23 (Brighton/Hartland, MI area) this mourning I saw the strangest thing. It was defiantly a Camaro but it was nothing I've ever seen before. It had prototype camo only on the front end / grill area. It was large, had a retro look, long hood, white with orange stripes. What I saw was reminiscent of a 1st generation front clip and spoiler with the side profile similar to that of a 4th gen. At first I said to myself, "Can it be? Not driving down 23 at 8:30 in the mourning". And then less than a mile behind it was an SUV covered in camo top to bottom. http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?se...article_id=2781 "In terms of raw acceleration, the Z06 is world-class quick, though not quite a match for its cross-town Mopar rival, the Dodge Viper SRT-10. Our vBox test gear clocked a 4.2-second 0-60 run, nearly reaching this speed in 1st gear, where the Dodge sprints there in 4.0; likewise, the Z06 dispatches the quarter-mile in 12.3 sec. at 116.6 mph, while its V-10-powered adversary cranks out a 12.1 at 119.3. The Viper feels quicker too in a roll-on situation, its extra 1.3 liters of displacement practically punting you forward, versus the still-forceful but more linear surge of the Z06."

Although we were unable to sit in them, we were given an upclose look at the exterior of the models and let me tell you, they are even more amazing in real life. The Avalanche still has its unmistakable styling but has been softened on the sides and made more agressive on the front end. Some of the features we are too expect is a power operated hard cover and rolling cargo area, like that introduced this year on the 2006 Cadillac EXT. Dare I say that the side view of the Avalanche reminded me of the Ridgeline but much more Avalanche …

OK, first grab a Cobalt, COMPLETELY camoflauge the fact that it's a Chevy, i.e. like the spy vehicles, use like the vinyl wraps on the front grille, rear end, strip the badges from the steering wheel, use generic wheel covers at Tire Rack or Canadian Tire. Next, in the streets, stop people with Corollas and Civics. Particularly look for people who make negative comments about American cars, particularly. Do a brief interview with them, and record their phrases like: I LOVE my Corolla, it's like the best car you can get... blah blah blah.... Then, challenge them to test drive the s…

http://www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=103218 That bugs me that GM didn't bother increasing the wheelbases from where they are now. Why? What were they thinking? Manueverability, Schmaneuverability, every other large SUV has a longer wheelbase-and wouldn't it make sense to base Tahoe/Yukon on the same wheelbase as the regular-cab standard (6.5-foot) box like the 1995-99 originals?

According to this USA Today article(2nd paragraph), the Tahoe will be shown next Tuesday at the Texas Sate Fair.:booyah: I know several people on here hinted at it. For a GM fan site, I'm suprised this wasn't on here yet. :P EDIT: More info starting on page 69 of the GMT900 discussion 2 at GM Inside News.

Chevy's 2007 Tahoe Biggest launch ever? GM says its 2007 full size trucks are critical to the company’s success WES RAYNAL Posted Date: 9/20/05 PHOTOS: 2007 CHEVROLET TAHOE GALLERY General Motors Corp. introduced its all-new, 2007 full-size SUVs and while GM officials insist the trucks won’t make or break the company, if they fail…well, according to GM that’s just not an option. The trucks have new all-new sheetmetal, new engines, new chassis and suspension, and new interiors. GM says the new trucks will offer more power and better fuel economy than the vehicles they replace. The Chevy Tahoe (pictured), GMC Yukon/Yukon Denali and Cadillac Escalade will be on…

"Cobalt: The 2006 model year is big for performance at Chevrolet, with the SS badge added to a wide range of high-horsepower vehicles. Cobalt SS coupe and sedan models feature a 171-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine as well as suspension and styling enhancements. A freshening is planned for the 2008 model year. GM is exploring an awd Cobalt variant that likely would be aimed at the Mitsubishi Evolution and Subaru WRX." -AutoWeek. I'm not sure how accurate this is, but I would believe it to be reasonably so. An all wheel drive Cobalt sure seems exciting!

By John K. Teahen Jr. Automotive News / September 12, 2005 Chevrolet executives aren't talking much about it these days, but they nervously await each month's sales figures, hoping against hope that it still can be done. The "it" is 3 million new-car and light-truck sales in 2005. It's possible, but it will be a far reach for General Motors' top-volume division. GM is eager for Chevy to return to 3 million. So what else is new? GM is eager for every brand to sell every car and truck possible. Chevy hasn't sold 3 million cars and trucks in a year in more than a quarter of a century. The division first made it in 1972 and 19…

This thread that had a bunch of rumors in it, one of which was a Camaro with a V8 under $22,000, got me thinking: Why not put a V8 in the base Camaro? It'd be great for advertising, and would basically compete with Ford's V6 Mustang. Even if it didn't have 300HP, it'd still be better than the Mustang's 210HP V6. What about fuel mileage you say? If GM does a Gen IV 4800 with DOD, I'm guessing it'd get pretty good mileage. The 5.3L LS4 with DOD in the Impala gets 18MPG city and 28 MPG highway, and weighs 3700lbs. The difference in weight should be enough to give the Camaro a bump of 1-2 MPG alone, and the 4800 should get better mileage t…

2006 Aveo The Chevrolet Aveo is a reconfigured Korean Daewoo model and the interior and exterior were designed by Italdesign of Italy. The engine is a 1.6-litre 4, producing 103 hp, from Opel. GM link: http://www.chevrolet.com/aveo/ Review: http://motortrend.com/roadtests/intellicho...005_chevy_aveo/ Introduction General Motors’s first attempt to compete on a heads-up basis with entry-level Asian econoboxes involved a partnership with Suzuki. Chevy HHR stars in offbeat TV ads Division also will push HHR, Impala on Web, in print By Laura Clark Geist Automotive News / September 05, 2005 http://www.autonews.com/article.cms?articleId=54379 DETROIT -- Chevrolet is taking product placement to new lengths in its advertising launches of the new HHR and re-engineered Impala. To launch the 2006 HHR small wagon, the brand is sponsoring a contest that invites consumers to shoot videos or photos that use the letters HHR in creative ways. Winning entries will air during the Sept. 22 episode of NBC's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno." Chevrolet is buying all of the ad time on that night's show…

I started this inquiry in the old format, found my own answer in the 2006 GM press releases, that the General is pitching the Uplander as the replacement for the Astro. Somebody needs to clean their glasses! First off, the Uplander is at most a 7 passenger vehicle, not 8, as the Astro was! Second, it does not have a 5000 lb tow capacity. I'm not sure of performance comparisons between the old 4.3L and the new 3.9L variable timing V-6, whenever it becomes available. The 3,4L sure doesn't have it! And that cargo box deal, !!!!! who is smokin' them funny cigarettes at design? If you have cargo ON THE FLOOR in the back, how can yo…

If you look at the Aveo, there's still one that has no designation. I guess what Chevy is trying to appeal that the others are more of a premium model, so in a sense that models got "upgraded" on the badge side.

Dave Hill, Chevrolet's chief engineer for the Corvette, can wax engineering all he wants about optimum bore size, combustion efficiency and maximizing fuel economy, but the real reason the new 2006 Corvette Z06's LS7 engine displaces 7.0 liters is that it translates into exactly 427 cubic inches, a magic number in Corvette lore. And while the new engine may not have the reputed 550 horsepower the legendary L88 had (though it was rated at a measly 430 hp to "fool" insurance companies),…
