We've seen spy shots of the mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette in the snow and at GM's proving grounds. Now, we have a set of spy shots of a mid-engine Corvette at a McDonalds' drive-thru. The pictures were captured by a Motor Trend reader in Cadillac, Michigan (northwest of Detroit). The test mule was undergoing some public road testing and it appears there was a current Corvette and what appears to be a Porsche 911. Despite the heavy amount of camouflage, you can make out some Corvette cues such as similar front-end styling as the current model and hood cutout. The double-bubble roof is present as is a set of new wheels that are presumed to be production ones. We'l…

We're now into the third week of the strike at GM's CAMI Assembly in Ontario and neither side appears to be budging. There are rising concerns that GM could be running out of the stockpile of the Chevrolet Equinox. GM's second-best selling nameplate. According to data from Automotive News, GM had 43,453 Equinoxes (about a 41-day supply) at the beginning of this month. Chevrolet dealers sold 27,512 Equinox models last month. If this trend continues, there could be some serious problems towards the end of the year. "That's going to be hard on Equinox to compete on such a limited quantity in such a hot segment. We would expect sales to pick up in the last quarter o…

Had an opportunity to take a spin the Bolt yesterday.. this model stickers at $41K and was pretty loaded. The car is very nice. First thing that struck me was the space. Outside I saw what looked like a compact car.. or more appropriately an alternative design to my ex's Encore. Inside I was greeted with a very clean sheet design.. still Chevy/GM, but with Silicon Valley influence. The ride was another strong, positive point. While not "Tesla quick" this was ever bit as quick as my Impala. Compare that the Tesla Model S 60 pulls the sprint to 60 mph in 5 secs. This Bolt does it in 6.3. If this were a race.. a drag race... with pinks or pride on the line.. ye…

We have been hearing about Chevrolet adding a crossover between the Equinox and Traverse for about a year or so. This week, we have gotten our first look at this new model possibly wearing a well-known nameplate. A spy photographer caught two Chevrolet prototypes testing alongside a Nissan Murano. How do we know they're Chevrolet models? You can just make out the emblem through the camouflage. The design is very much Traverse with a similar shape and large grille. The new crossover will use the same platform that underpins the GMC Acadia. Powertrains are expected to be a 2.5L four-cylinder and 3.6L V6. According to sources, the new crossover will have the opti…

If you're a truck manufacturer and have decided to build an off-road special, sooner or later you will be entering it a desert race to prove its merit. Ford and Toyota have done it with their respective models, and soon Chevrolet will be joining this crowd with the Colorado ZR2. The truck seen here was developed and built by Hall Racing. Competing in the Best in the Desert’s General Tire “Vegas to Reno” (the longest off-road race in the U.S), the Colorado ZR2 will be in class 7300, reserved for stock mid-size trucks and SUVs. 'Stock' carries a different meaning in racing as the ZR2 has some modifications for the race such as a rollcage, racing seats and harnesses; 44-…

Chevrolet will be introducing a new base model of the 2018 Tahoe called the Custom. The Custom sets itself apart from other Tahoes as it will not have a third-row seat, increasing cargo space to 54 cubic feet. Standard equipment includes 18-inch wheels, 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, OnStar 4G LTE with Wi-Fi, backup camera, and remote start. Like most Tahoes, the Custom features the 5.3L V8 with 355 horsepower. Out of the box, the Tahoe Custom can tow up to 6,600 pounds. An optional max trailering package boosts that to 8,600 pounds. “The Tahoe Custom is a response to strong customer demand for Tahoe, as well as the full-size…

The sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro has been lagging somewhat in sales when compared to the likes of the Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger. Through July, Chevrolet only has moved 41,280 Camaros (down 2.5 percent). Compared to the Mustang which sold 50,814 (down 30 percent). The Challenger trails the Camaro but not by much - 41,243 units (up 2.6 percent). It gets worse when you compare it to last-generation Camaro. In 2015, the last year for the fifth-generation model, Chevrolet moved 77,502 models. A year later when the sixth-generation arrived, sales dropped to 72,705 models. To try and change the Camaro's fortunes, General Motors is considering making some chang…

It is no secret that Chevrolet is working on a mid-engine Corvette, especially when a set of spy shots clearly showing the vehicle came out last fall. A new batch of spy shots have hit the web and we now have a better idea of what it could look like. The pictures reveal that the front end will look somewhat similar to the current Corvette with a pointed nose. There appears to be a curved windshield and a tapered roofline. Other pictures reveal the outline of the hood where the V8 engine resides. Speaking of the V8 engine, there are reports saying the mid-engine Corvette will have three engines on offer - codenamed LT2, LT6, and LT7. We know LT6 is possibly a nat…

Later this year, you'll be able to pick up a Chevrolet Equinox with a 1.6L turbodiesel engine that promises an estimated 40 mpg on the highway. What hasn't been revealed is how much the diesel will set you back. But the folks at CarsDirect have uncovered it. The diesel option will $31,435 for the LT and $33,930 for the Premier. All-wheel drive adds $1,750 to the base prices. What do you get for the money? The LT comes with 17-inch wheels, cloth seats, a 7-inch touchscreen with Chevrolet MyLink, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and rear park assist. The Premier adds 18-inch wheels, leather seats, 8-inch touchscreen, and dual-zone climate control. …

We have to admire the chutzpah put on display by a spy photographer when getting these shots of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado. A video shows one of them running up to one of the mules when sitting in traffic with a magnet in hand. The goal was to see if the bed was made out of aluminum - something we have been hearing about the next-generation Silverado. What the video reveals is that the Silverado mule is using a steel bed with a 'clang' of the magnet attaching to the bed. Does this mean that the production Silverado and GMC Sierra will stick with steel beds in the next-generation? That is tough to say since we don't know how along GM is in the development cycle…

I've never heard of this before, but here's an excerpt from the Chevy Malibu article on Wikipedia... In 1981, General Motors of Canada in Oshawa produced a special order of 12,000 4-door Malibu sedans for Saddam Hussein's Iraqi government. The deal was worth 100-million dollars to GM. These special order Malibus carried the unusual combination of GM's lowest-power V6, the 110hp 229ci (3.8 l) engine mated to a unique 3-on-the-floor stick shifter. All of the cars were equipped with air conditioning, heavy duty cooling systems, tough upholstery and 14-inch (360 mm) stamped steel wheels with trim rings and "baby moon" center caps. They were the ultimate Iraqi Taxis. In 1982…

Whenever the Corvette plant closes it doors for public tours for a certain amount of time, it usually means some big change is coming to the model. The Bowling Green Daily News reports that starting next month, GM will suspend plant tours for 18 months. National Corvette Museum Marketing and Communications Manager, Katie Frassinelli tells the paper the suspension is for a reconfiguration of the assembly line and a new paint shop. “The new paint shop at the plant has to be tied into the existing assembly line. The old paint shop is on the opposite side of the plant,” said Frassinelli. It should be noted this is the longest time that the plant tour has been …

For those into Corvettes, this might be of interest. I came across these UK magazine test times. I think they show what a showroom car can do. Cruze Diesel Review by Green Car http://www.greencarreports.com/news/1109762_2017-chevrolet-cruze-diesel-first-drive Came across this review of the cruze diesel and have to say I was impressed by the writeup, pictures and found the following two quotes to be very telling of just how well Cheverolet nailed the new Diesel Cruze. Quote 1 Driving the Prius for mileage was an annoying affair, requiring me to putter away from stoplights and hang out in the slow lane on the freeway as other cars passed, just so I could come up short on the EPA-estimated freeway figure. It was tiring and tedious. Quote While the diesel engine deserves a lot of prais…

Chevrolet has gone a bit crazy with the special editions over the past couple of years with Rally, Redline, and Midnight. Now there is another one in the form of the RST (Rally Sport Truck) for the 2018 Tahoe and Suburban. But this special edition stands out for one reason. Before we get to that reason, let's dive into what the RST package nets you. There is no sign of chrome trim anywhere on the RST. Instead, Chevrolet is using body-color for the door handles and grille surround, and gloss black for other trim pieces. A set of 22-inch alloy wheels come wrapped in Bridgestone Dueler tires. Optional is a Borla exhaust that adds an additional 10 horsepower and more aggr…

If it weren't for focus groups, the design of the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox could have looked so much different. Speaking to Automotive News, chief engineer of the 2018 Equinox Mark Cieslak revealed that focus groups weren't not impressed with the first designs of the redesigned model. They described the design as being bulky, 'not compelling', and looking a bit odd. If this was old GM, they would have gone forward with the design. "Back in the day, we would have probably just kept going," said Cieslak. "What we had on paper we felt was not going to win." But this being the new GM where bean counters lost a fair amount of influence, the decision was made …

Those who want some V8 muscle after the current Holden Commodore goes away have a new option from an Australian company. Motor reports that Crossover Car Conversions (CCC) has announced they can import a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and convert it to right-hand drive for only $150,000 AUD (yikes!). What does this $150,000 AUD sum get you? First, it gets you the Camaro that will cost $79,000 AUD. Here is the rest of the pricing breakdown: Shipping - $5,000 5 percent import tariff - $3,000 Luxury Car Tax (LCT) - $6209 GST - $8200 Conversion to RHD: $44,000 The process will take around six months with the conversion taking about eight to ten …

The Camaro Z/28 will be returning for an encore act and it might be using the next-generation of Chevrolet's small-block V8. Car and Driver reports that GM is working on the next-generation LT engines, codenamed LT6 and LT7. These new V8 engines will lose the pushrods and two-valve combustion chambers that have been a key part of the small-block V8. Instead, the new engines will feature dual overhead camshafts, four-valve combustion chambers, flat crankshaft, titanium connecting rods, and possibly dual injection (port and direct). For the Z/28, a 5.5L LT6 could produce 700 horsepower (that's without any sort of forced induction). Car and Driver speculates there…

The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is already a monster with 650 horsepower from a 6.2L supercharged V8 engine. But the people on the Camaro team thought they could further and the end result is the 2018 Camaro ZL1 1LE. It certainly looks the part with new canards, revised grilles, an exposed carbon-fiber air extractor for the hood, and a massive carbon fiber wing. A set of 19-inch forged wheels come wrapped in the widest tires ever offered on a Camaro - 305 mm wide tires in the front, and 325 mm tires at the back. The interior hasn't changed much aside from a lighter back seat. Under the ZL1 1LE's skin, there is a set of Multimatic Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve dampers (t…

With the clock winding down on production of the Holden Commodore, Chevrolet dealers are snapping the remaining lot of SS models being exported to the U.S. Wheels has learned from Chevrolet that the extra 1,000 SS models Holden was planning to build for the U.S. market have been snapped up. “All US dealer orders are in for the allocated production of the 2017 Chevrolet SS. This includes any additional units that were confirmed for production last year,” said Chevrolet. Originally, Holden was planning on building 2,000 SS for the U.S. However, the large demand by dealers for the last SS models caused Holden to add an additional 1,000 models for export. Sourc…

It is a good time if you happen to be interested in off-road pickups. The Ford F-150 Raptor, Ram Power Wagon, and Toyota's TRD Pro lineup offer their unique take. Soon, the 2018 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 will have its own take for your consideration. Today, Chevrolet revealed the base price of the Colorado ZR2 which begins at $40,995 (includes a $940 destination charge). That will net you the extended cab model with the 3.6L V6. Chevrolet isn't talking pricing for the crew cab or the option of the 2.8L Duramax Turbodiesel. This price undercuts the base Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro by $705. The list of standard equipment is quite extensive with front and rear locking electro…

Almost four years ago, famed Corvette tuner Callaway showed a design study for a Corvette Stingray known as the AeroWagon. A shooting brake version of then new Corvette, the tuner announced later in the year that it would put the AeroWagon into production as it generated enough interest. Flash forward to now and Callaway has finally produced a production version of the AeroWagon, now known as the C21 AeroWagon. The model shown here comes courtesy of Callaway's General Manager of Operations, Peter Callaway on their Facebook page. The Chevrolet Spark EV is no more, ending a three-year run for the bowtie brand. The Detroit News learned that production of the Spark EV ended last summer as a part of a move by Chevrolet to get ready with selling the Bolt EV. Another reason not listed in the story is that the Spark EV was based on the previous-generation model, not the all-new model. When Chevrolet revealed the Bolt EV back in 2015, GM executives said the Bolt would likely not replace the Spark EV. Chevrolet spokesman Fred Ligouri said Chevrolet sold about 7,400 Spark EVs during its three-year run from 2013 to 2016. The model was only sold in California, Maryland, and Oregon. Source:…

It has been a few months since we last reported on the mid-engine Corvette. But thanks to a spy photographer, we have some new pictures of the mid-engine model which gives us some new details. The pictures show the mid-engine Corvette playing around with a couple of ZR1 prototypes in the snow. When put next to the ZR1 prototype, the mid-engine Corvette's proportions are very different - short front end and long rear end. It appears the mid-engine prototype is also sporting massive air intakes in the rear fenders. We still don't know anything about the mid-engine Corvette's powertrain. We've been hearing the possibility of a 6.2L DOHC V8 to a turbocharged V6. …

Whenever a new set of spy shots come out, the photographer tends to have an idea of the vehicle in question. But that isn't the case with this set of spy shots. The vehicle in question is a Chevrolet Crossover that was driving nearby General Motors' headquarters. But no one can seem to agree if this is the next-generation Traverse or the rumored crossover that would sit between the Equinox and Traverse. Motor1 believes it's latter since it is about the same size and shape as the downsized GMC Acadia. This new model could be wearing the Blazer nameplate. No matter which model this turns out to be, we can be sure the front end will feature a similar design to the …

Most of us knew this was going happen, but there were some that hoping that somehow the Chevrolet SS would continue on after production of the Holden VF Commodore ended. To those who fall into this camp, it is time to move on as the SS will be no more after 2017. Alan Batey, head of GM North America confirmed this yesterday at the Detroit Auto Show. Batey also said there would not be a replacement for the rear-drive sedan. “Obviously it’s unlikely there is anything to follow because of what is going on in Australia. It was an optimistic play from our perspective and it’s played out well and been a nice addition to the range. It’s not mainstream. It’s small volum…

It seems dual overhead cams are making a return to the Corvette in one application. A set of GM service documents made their way on to Reddit sometime this morning. In the documents, there is a 6.2L DOHC V8 with LT5 code. Furthermore, the engine application corresponds to the 2018 Corvette. There isn't any indication of forced-induction being used for this engine. LT5 holds a special place in Corvette history. This was the code used for the only Corvette to ever feature a DOHC V8, the C4 ZR-1. What could this engine be used for? The Drive believes this engine could be used for the mid-engine Corvette since it is a break from the traditional. We're wondering if …

Every Chevrolet Bolt that will be rolling off the assembly line will lose General Motors close to $9,000 once they are sold. This seems like madness, but according to a report from Bloomberg, there is some method to it. Thanks to new regulations done by California Air Resources Board, automakers have to sell a certain amount of zero-emission vehicles if they want to sell other vehicles - primarily crossovers, SUVs, and trucks - in the state. These new regulations say by 2025, zero-emission vehicles need to make up 15.4 percent of the market. Since then, nine other states including New York have adopted these regulations. All told, these ten states make up 30 percent…

General Motors will begin importing the Colorado and Silverado pickups into China next year, but you'll only be able to buy them in select markets. Automotive News explains that many Chinese cities have bans on pickups for the fear of aggravating air pollution and causing more traffic issues. But earlier this year, the Chinese Government lifted the ban in four provinces - Henan, Hebei, Liaoning, and Yunnan - in an effort to jumpstart sales of domestic pickups. GM sees an opportunity with this and wants to explore it. But there is a major downside to this. Since GM will be importing the trucks, they'll be hit with 25 percent tariff by the Chinese Government. Source…

Previous Page Next Page We weren't expecting this, but Chevrolet has revealed the all-new 2018 Equinox tonight in Chicago. The exterior borrows heavily from the Cruze and Malibu designs. Up front is a revised grille (similar to the one seen on the Cruze) with new headlights and LED daytime running lights. Around the side is a character line that swoops down and 'Equinox' name on the front doors. When Chevrolet announced the 2017 Bolt's range last week, they hinted that the model would have a price tag of under $37,500 and would qualify for the maximum $7,500 tax credit. Today, Chevrolet announced the starting price for the Bolt will be $37,495 when it arrives at dealers later this year. The company is quick to point out that the price drops to $29,995 once you add in the $7,500 federal tax credit. But we need to stress that this tax credit cannot be used during the purchase of the Bolt, so you're still paying the $37,495. The base Bolt LT will come equipped with a regen-on-demand steering wheel paddle, 10.2-inch touchscreen, backup camera, and more. Premier mo…

Volkswagen has tainted the reputation of diesel in the U.S. So it seems a bit odd that Chevrolet is not only going ahead with offering a diesel in the upcoming Equinox, but also adding a diesel option for the Cruze. Yesterday, Chevrolet officially announced that the 2018 Cruze sedan and hatchback would come with a 1.6L turbodiesel four-cylinder. It will come with the choice of either a six-speed manual or nine-speed automatic. Official power figures are not out and Chevrolet would not confirm if this is the same engine found in the Equinox. "People who drive diesels, love diesels. And so there is a customer base there that wants to drive this type of vehicle an…

A spy photographer has gotten some up close photos of the next Corvette ZR1. Engineers have done their best to cover up the front, but there are some details that can be pulled out. First are the large vents on the bumper and a massive air intake. All of that air is needed if there is a 700 horsepower 6.2L supercharged V8 under the hood (according to rumor) along with massive brakes. We're guessing there is also some venting on the hood to provide additional cooling. The back features small uprights for a large rear wing (s…

Previous Page Next Page Madness! That was our first thought when we saw the Chevrolet Colorado ZH2 - the result of a joint venture of General Motors and the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC). Even though it might be called a Colorado, it is unlike anyone you'll find at your nearest Chevrolet dealership. The model is 6.5-feet tall and over 7-feet wide. To accodimate for the larger size, Chevrolet used a lengthened and reinforced version of the Colorado's chassis. A set of 37-inch tires and specially modified suspension help the ZH2 go though any terrain that the Army will throw its way. That's…

The key problem with most electric vehicles is the lack of range. Currently, a number of electric vehicles only offer a range of under 120 miles. The general consensus is that for electric vehicles to take off, they would need at least 200 miles of range. Tesla made headlines earlier this year when it announced their upcoming entry-level model, the Model 3 would offer a range of 215 miles. But the Chevrolet Bolt, due out later this year will offer a longer range. This morning, Chevrolet announced the Bolt is rated by the EPA to deliver an estimated range of 238 miles. “While range is important, we knew Bolt EV owners would want more — more space and more power — …

Our intrepid trademark investigator Blake Noble has uncovered two new filings from General Motors. Filed on January 21, the two filings are for the Chevrolet Spark Activ. So what could this possible Spark model be? We have a couple of guesses: An even smaller crossover in Chevrolet's lineup More fuel efficient version of the Spark Now we should say that even though GM has trademarked Spark Activ, it doesn't mean they will actually use it. What do you think? Let us know in the comments. Source: US Patent Office View full article

The problem with the previous spy shots of the mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette was you couldn't really tell what it was. The shots showed a blurry mule on GM's test track. For all we knew, it could have been bigfoot terrorizing GM employees. But finally, we have gotten the first clear and detailed shots of the mid-engine Corvette. It is clear this mule is mid-engined because of the proportions - short front and long rear end. There also appears to be some bits from the C7 such as the taillights. Other details are hidden by the heavy camouflage. Details on the mid-engine Corvette are very sketchy. As we have reported previously, the mid-engine Corvette could be sh…

Chevrolet release the EPA estimated range of 238 miles for the Chevy Bolt yesterday. A few publications released their experiences exceeding that, with some going as high as 250 miles on a single charge. With most of the affordable EV's having ranges between 90 - 120 miles, a lot of fuss has been made over electric vehicle range anxiety. So far, Telsa is the only manufacturer to offer vehicles with ranges over 200 miles, that are also supplemented by a network of free fast charging stations only for Tesla owners. While the Bolt doesn't have a manufacturer supplied charging network, there is a vast network of free and pay chargers out there. Plugged into a Le…

In light of fresh competition in the form of the refreshed Toyota Tacoma and new Honda Ridgeline, Chevrolet has announced some updates for the 2017 Colorado. First is a new 3.6L V6 producing 308 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque (up 3 horsepower and 6 pound-feet). Changes to the engine include a revised direct injection system, updated variable valve timing, and cylinder deactivation. We can't help but wonder if this is the same engine that resides in a number of Cadillac models. A new eight-speed automatic transmission is hooked up to the V6. The transmission features a higher first gear (helps with towing or hauling a heavy load) and lower rear axle ratios wil…

When it comes to designing a vehicle, comprises must be made. If you want a vehicle to have a sharp profile, that means giving up a bit of interior space and glass area for example. The upcoming Chevrolet Bolt EV is no exception to this. Automotive News reports that designers tasked with designing the production Bolt gave up some aerodynamic efficiency to improve overall interior space. The Bolt has a drag coefficient of 0.32, while the new Toyota Prius has a drag coefficient of 0.24. “It’s a disaster for aero,” said Stuart Norris, lead designer on the Bolt. To compensate for the poor aerodynamics, Norris and his team at GM's South Korea design studio by emplo…

When Chevrolet revealed the 2017 Camaro ZL1 at the New York Auto Show earlier this year, it was said that the supercharged 6.2L V8 would produce 640 horsepower and 640 pound-feet of torque. But a leaked order guide shows that the Camaro ZL1 actually has a little bit more power. The folks at Camaro6 forum got their hands on a leaked order guide for the 2017 Camaro and found out that the ZL1 actually produces 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. Just to put that in perspective, the Corvette Z06 has the same power numbers. We're sensing there will be a fight when the ZL1 arrives later this year. Source: Camaro6.com View full article

With a supercharged 6.2L V8 producing 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 looks to be giving a number of sports car a run for their money. But getting into one will cost you a fair penny. Chevrolet has announced the Camaro ZL1 will begin at $62,135 for the coupe and $69,135 for the convertible. Both prices include destination. “The Camaro ZL1 offers supercar performance with daily-driver refinement, a combination that stacks up against any other sports coupe – at any price – around the world,” said Steve Majoros, director of Chevrolet marketing. If that is a bit too much, Chevrolet has the 1LE package available for the LT and…

The mid-engine Corvette is the rumor that won't die. This past year has seen speculation explode thanks to spy shots showing a mid-engine mule running around GM's Milford Proving Grounds. The Detroit News has published a report today saying the model would arrive in 2019 along with other details about the model. We're going to give a summary of the most interesting bits from the report, but we highly recommend checking out the full piece. Has the codename of Emperor and is expected to debut in early 2018 (most likely Detroit) The goal for this model is to try and draw younger folks into buying a Corvette. The average age of a Corvette owner is around 59 years old. …

It may seem odd to try and draw customers who would have gone with a Volkswagen diesel to yours in this current climate. But that is what GM is planning to do when the diesel version of the Chevrolet Cruze arrives next year. “There are a lot of diesel intenders and diesel-loyal people who are looking for a brand and vehicles to go after,” said Dan Nicholson, General Motors’ vice president for global propulsion systems to Automotive News. “They tend to be more tech savvy than the average customer. And they won’t stop wishing for a diesel. And we’ll go after those customers.” But one has to wonder how big that group of customers is. Considering a fair amount of …

The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is a hot car. Both in terms of performance and problems. Motor1 reports that Chevrolet will be introducing improvements for the Z06's cooling in 2017. Tadge Juechter, Corvette executive chief engineer said a small number of Z06 owners were experiencing heatsoak or overheating issues when running their models hard on the track. Juechter said this group was small, but very vocal with this issue. Chevrolet says full details about the changes will be announced later this year, but did say one of the changes will be a new hood with improved cooling vents. Source: Motor1.com View full article

A couple of years ago, Chevrolet rolled out the Colorado ZR2 concept. This truck showed what a possible off-road focused model could look like. At the time, Chevrolet said this was only a concept. But some new spy shots show GM is considering putting this model into production. While the front end is camouflaged very well, we can make out certain details such as a new front bumper, tow hooks, and a skid plate. The bumper is an important change as the current one limits how far you can off-road. The suspension has been lifted (an inch or two we're guessing) and there is a set of meaty off-road tires. Engines choices are likely to be the 3.6L V6 and 2.8L Duramax fou…

This fall will see the Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback arrive at dealerships. Pricing for the new Cruze variant will start at $22,190 (includes a $875 destination charge). Compared to the sedan, the Cruze Hatch is about $5,000 more. It should be noted that the hatchback isn't offered in the base L or LS trims like the sedan. The more apt comparison would the Cruze LT sedan which begins at $20,695. Comparing the prices of the LT models sees a difference of $1,495. The Cruze Hatchback will use the same turbocharged 1.4: four-cylinder engine with 153 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. No word if the hatchback will get a manual transmission or if it will be just an automa…

One thing that many Chevrolet Suburban customers have missed since 2013 is the availability of a 3/4 ton model. The last Suburban 2500 went out of production as the Suburban changed over to the 2014 model. We have uncovered a GM document showing that Chevrolet is planning on adding an HD trim to the Suburban for 2016. This new trim (available on 4x4, LS and LT models only) may not be a full 3/4 ton model however. From 2001 - 2006 Chevrolet offered an uprated Silverado 1500 HD that was powered by a 6.0 liter V8. That gave the Silverado 1500 HD a tow rating just 500lbs shy of a similarly engined Silverado 2500HD. Thus, our guess is that this new Suburban HD will be an up…

Good new for Chevrolet Suburban fans. Back in March we reported that a Chevrolet Suburban HD would be available for the 2016 model year, but then later found that the Suburban HD would only be available for commercial and government Fleets. The commercial and government fleet version would come equipped with the venerable 5.3 liter V8 and some upgraded hardware. Now we can update you with some new information. The GM order guides for the Suburban just went live and now we can see that while there is still the Government and Fleet version, there is also now a 2016 Suburban 3500HD listed. There is no indication in the order guide as to if the 3500HD will be avail…

Another class-action lawsuit involving a diesel vehicle has been filed this week, but it doesn't deal with Volkswagen. The Detroit News reports that class-action lawsuit has been filed against General Motors this week alleging the company used illegal software on the Chevrolet Cruze diesel to allow it to pass emission tests in the lab, while polluting more in the outside world. Also, the suit alleges the company falsely and marketed its Cruze Diesel as a “clean vehicle.” The suit, filed by the Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro law firm in Seattle says the six plaintiffs it is representing in this suit have tested their vehicles with a portable emissions measurement system. …

http://www.automobilemag.com/news/porsche-pdk-shifts-slower-2017-chevrolet-camaro-zl1-automatic/ "When the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 hits showrooms later this year, it’ll be the automaker’s first car to get the new ten-speed automatic, a transmission Chevy claims is so dialed in that it shifts faster than Porsche’s outstanding PDK dual-clutch gearbox. Chevy previously claimed its new ten-speed was a quick shifter during our ride-along in a Camaro ZL1 prototype earlier this year. Now Chevy has numbers to back it up. Based on Chevy’s own testing, the 2017 Camaro ZL1’s automatic shifts from 1st to 2nd gear 36 percent quicker than the Porsche PDK. The automaker claims th…

With the sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro sitting on dealer lots and the ZL1 being shown at New York, there is something still missing: The mad, track-oriented Camaro Z28. It seems GM is working on that model at the Nurburgring thanks to some new spy shots. This Camaro test mule is wearing some extreme aero parts such as deep canards on the front bumper and a massive rear wing. The pictures also reveal a set of larger brakes and wide rear tires. We're guessing the tires could be a set of Pirelli PZero Trofeo Rs - the same tires the last Camaro Z28 wore. Expect GM to do a major weight loss program for the new Z28 with racing seats, carbon fiber, and no air conditi…

The current Chevrolet Equinox is nearing the end of its lifecycle and we have been wondering when we'll be seeing any information about it. Thanks to a spy photographer, we have some photos to show what Chevrolet has in store. The most apparent thing we can tell the photos is the new model is smaller than the outgoing model. This confirms a report back from January that Chevrolet will be moving the Equinox downmarket to compete better with compact crossovers. Another vehicle has been revealed earlier than expected. This time, it is the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt which was caught during a photo shoot. The styling for the production model retains the basic shape of the concept. Up front is the clip from Volt and the rear end reminds us of the BMW i3. As we reported in a previous Bolt spying piece, the interior will look similar to the Volt's. But we think the Bolt will have a larger touchscreen. Now the Bolt will make its official debut next month at the Consumers Electronic Show in Las Vegas. Production will begin sometime late in 2016 at GM's Lake Orion plant. With the Holden Commodore saying goodbye in 2017, it was assumed that the Chevrolet SS would follow suit. But some recent comments last week are making us rethink that. During a discussion at the New York Auto Show, Al Oppenheiser, chief engineer for the Camaro and SS hinted that all was not lost for the SS. “It sells what it’s supposed to. And we haven’t announced an end date to it, so we’re just … we know that there are some decisions made on the Zeta [platform], that are imminent, and right now we’re just focused on the new ’17 model, which is great. It has the LS3 with the manual and the active exhausts, and it’s a great car,” said Oppenheiser. The lack of…

Let it be said the team charged with the Chevrolet Camaro isn't one to take a rest. Despite launching a new generation of the model last year, they have been hard at work on new and updated variants. Case in point is the 2017 Camaro ZL1. Like the last-generation model, the 2017 ZL1 packs a Supercharged 6.2L V8. But engineers have boosted power from 580 horsepower and 556 pound-feet of torque to 640 horsepower and 640 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual transmission with rev-matching comes standard and a new ten-speed automatic - developed with Ford - that offers close gear ratios and fast shifts. The powertrain also boasts eleven heat exchangers, an auxiliary tra…

This one goes out to Olds and ocn I thought this story was pretty awesome and entertaining. Coolest part of it all was that it was still using a manual transmission. I think a manual transmission would really help keep the enthusiasts, like ourselves, a little more entertained by electric cars. I know it would add to the experience so much more than just a straight auto that never shifts.. As exhilarating as the g-forces would be still being able to row my own gears in a performance car would be ideal. There wasn't much to read so I just posted it all: "It would be easy to assume the Tesla Model S is the fastest electric car in the world. The P90D ca…

Link to Article Superior Glass Works to sell 54 Sports Wagon based on C5 Corvette About two years ago, there was a nasty rumor that Ford was developing sedan and wagon variants of (gasp!) the Mustang. Torches were lit and pitchfork futures soared until Ford totally debunked the rumor. But 55 years ago, something similar took place at the 1954 Motorama in New York when Chevrolet displayed a Corvette-based wagon called the Nomad. The difference in the two stories, according to at least one Web site, is that the public absolutely loved the show car's styling. Smelling opportunity, GM management rushed the Nomad into production without even one trace of Corvette styling…

Chevrolet is gearing up to launch its newest hybrid, the Mailbu Hybrid. When it goes on sale in the spring, it will carry a base price of $28,645 (includes a $875 destination charge). Now compared to the standard Malibu, the Hybrid is about $6,145 more. The Malibu Hybrid is also slightly more expensive than the Ford Fusion Hybrid (about $3,000) and Toyota Camry Hybrid (about $2,000). But the high price does mean a lot of equipment for the hybrid. Standard on all models is 10 airbags, cruise control, push-button start with passive entry, a 7-inch touchscreen with Chevrolet MyLink, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, and a backup camera. The three-box Chevy sedan arrived with the new-for-1949 Chevrolets, which grew proper trunks that were flattened and pulled out from the old bustle-back Fleetlines and Master Deluxes of the streamliner era. How many of us saw Dad off to work in a Biscayne or a Bel Air, or remember the mall lots clogged with Novas and Caprices? The Chevy sedan was everyman’s car, the car you drove if you cared more about value than flash. Malibus were once everywhere, even in Malibu, but the Japanese long ago moved the bull’s-eye for high-value conformity, and Chevrolet has struggled to hit it. Too big, too small, too boring, too unreliable; the mid-size Chevy sedan devolved into a ca…

Is the New Camaro More Entertaining to Drive Than a 3 Series? "Here’s a sentence I never thought I’d write: The Chevrolet Camaro is a better, more entertaining car to drive than a BMW 3 Series. In more than 30 years of testing cars I have experienced several moments of dazzling, crystalline revelation: that the original Mazda Miata was the most sublimely, delicately, intuitively tactile sports car ever built; that underneath the seductive scarlet curves of a Ferrari 348 lurked a sulky, evil-tempered bunny-boiler; and that the Ford Raptor was one of the most original performance vehicle concepts from a mainstream automaker, an entertaining and engaging ride that was also u…

OK, got to drive a LFX equipped Camaro for the first time. And, I am sad to report that there had been no significant improvement in the refinement of the engine (compared to the 312hp LLT). The engine is still plagued by the most unpleasant acoustics I can bear. At idle it makes a muted, diesel like clatter. At low rpms between 1000~3000 the engine makes a groany gggaaarrrr. It all gets somewhat drowned out by about 4000~5000 rpm as the rest of the engine noises catches up. To a certain degree, cruising noise on the freeway isn’t bad because the wind noise, tire noise and everything else help mask the utterly uninspiring engine note. But on local streets pulling modestly…

Chevrolet is hard at work on getting the Bolt EV from the concept we first saw at the Detroit Auto Show to go into production for 2017. Yesterday saw the first spy shots of the Bolt's interior come into focus. The most noticeable feature is a large LCD screen which appears to be running a new version of Chevrolet's MyLink infotainment system. Controls for audio and HVAC are right underneath the screen. There's also another LCD in the gauge cluster which appears to have a similar layout as the Volt. Source: Autoblog View full article

Well I got a deal from GM that if I test drove a new Chevy I would get a $50 Gift Cars to Best Buys, Amazon, etc. Well I visited the dealer and the salesman said he would take care of my card and I did not have to even test drive. I told him I really wanted to drive a Colorado. So without even asking who I was or taking any information I was provided with a set of keys to a $36,758 Crew Cab short bed Colorado. Well I drove off and took it on a good test drive. Here are some of my impressions. It is very quiet unless you kick the V6 down. 19 owners of the 2006 - 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and 427 models have filed a class-action lawsuit against General Motors against an engine issue. The lawsuit says the 7.0L V8 fitted in these models have excessive valve guide wear that leads to engine failures. The suit goes on to say that GM is aware of this problem, but hasn't come up with a solution. According to Law360, General Motors began testing vehicles equipped with the V8 and were able to replicate the problem. The issue is that GM didn't go any further with the tests as it “would lead to more repair and investigations than it wished to perform.” If this suit goes forward, it might lead to lawsuits dea…

Earlier this week, we introduced you the refreshed 2016 Holden Commodore lineup. Now one question that came up was if the Chevrolet SS - a rebadged version of the Commodore - would see any changes. Chevrolet has provided the answer with an announcement of an updated 2016 SS sedan. Changes for the 2016 SS are mostly cosmetic with new vertical ducts to improve aerodynamics and a set of LED lighting. Finishing off the exterior are a set of functional hood vents and nineteen-inch alloy wheels. The 6.2L V8 remains unchanged with 415 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. A new dual-mode exhaust comes as standard. "The 2016 SS design changes more fully express the tru…
