By all accounts, the Impala is going to have a bigger impact on the market than Camaro, yet very little is being talked about here. Camaro is a downright stunning looking car. However, the Camaro is actually rediscovering a market segment that has always relyed on stunning looks to survive. The sporty coupe market, despite the ramblings of some, is heavily based on looks, not 0-60 performance. This is an extremely style conscious market in which cars typically have a life span of 3-5 years with a distinctive life cycle that goes from hot to mainstream to yesterday's news, then a new style comes out. However..... The family sedan market is completely different. Peopl…

Well today i was pleasently supprised when our GM trainer came in and discussed future products for us... First he cleanly said "you didnt hear it from me" but... The camaro will be avalible in 2008 as a 2009 year model. He also mentioned that there would be 3 engine choices those being 1 v6 and 2 v8's and the idea of borrowing the 7L, although it wouldnt be rated to have as much power as the vette, the idea was there to borrow the motor. He also went on to mention stuff about the impala next year getting AFM (this we already knew) he also mentioned that it was sent to austrailia (like we already knew) so that it would stay out of the limelight...

Perhaps you've seen the 1962 Pontiac Monte Carlo convertible on eBay recently. Thought that was a bit interesting? Try this on for size ... Packard had a Monte Carlo. A friend of mine who owns a 1941 Packard, sent me a page that included the following info... "Your recent items on the 1948 Station Sedan and Professor Ward's 'The Packard Legacy' (issue 87) seem to lament Packard's failure to keep up with Cadillac and others in styling and more modern engineering. Richard Arbib's original Monte Carlo...indicates that Packard did anticipate (or at least react to) the GM hardtops introduced to the public in January 1949. If Packard was not thinking along these lines, at…

Was looking at an Equinox in Belle Plaine Iowa today for the wife when I spied a SSR parked up by the building - turns out it is an '04 with less than 60 miles on it! Redline Red over Ebony. GM stuffed it down his throat and he has been stuck with it for a very very long time. I know it is the 5.3 auto - but come on, you can steal it for as close to $30k as you want. It has been stored inside during the winter months and is spotless. Just thought I would throw it out there to the group and see if anyone is interested. Call Bill Grieder at 319-444-2259 or 1800-326-1348 Also has a brand new 04 GTO - same colors...guess they were not hot sellers in a town of 5000…

Can any insiders tell us the status on this program. GMT161 had been progressing for quit few yrs as a Mini SUV on Theta below the Equnox & VUE for Chevy, GMC and Saturn but I have heard rumors it is another victim of the budget axe. With the NG VUE appearing to grow in size and the Equinox almost as large as a T Blazer it seems with rising gas prices this a program that needs to see the light of day. Any insight?

I'm going to be getting a new 2007 Avalanche soon but can't really make a good decision what model to get. I like the LTZ with the 20" wheels but also like the practicality (and looks) of the cladding on my current model. Has anyone heard anything about the new Z71 Avalanche, and specifically, what kind of wheels, ground clearance, cladding and other features that it's going to have? Why can't GM at least release a simple list of features on the new Z71 Avalanche so that I at least know what I can expect. Instead of blindly awaiting a truck that may not even exist (having the features I've listed above).

The current issue of Car and Driver did a full road test of the Impala SS. Even though the test numbers looked very good, they pretty much panned it. The said that the driving dynamics were unrewarding. They did say that it was a good effort with an 18 year old platform....... Thought the LTZ would be a more rewarding drive.

Future Camaro Update: Australia's GM Holden May Be Taking the Lead Toward Production Date posted: 04-20-2006 CANBERRA, Australia — A task force based at GM Holden — set up shortly after the debut of the Chevrolet Camaro concept at the North American International Auto Show in January — is reportedly working on the production version of the car, according to the Telegraph newspaper here. "The only thing I can say on the record is that our new rear-wheel-drive (Zeta) architecture is the main candidate for the future American rear-wheel-drive products, including the Camaro concept," said GM Holden Chairman Denny Mooney in the report. "We have a significant number of engi…

I've read a few rumors and seen one drawing that indicates that the new 08 Malibu is going to have quite an up-market appearance, and be the first car of the "new Chevy design" -- whatever that is. Anyone heard or seen anything lately about this new upcoming Malibu? I really hope that it lives up to the hype, because the current Malibu, however nice a driver it might be, just sucks from a style perspective; it screams "rent-a-car."

Well C & G-ers, wondering if I can get some help from the crowd out there. My wife currently drives a '95 Yukon SLT 4door...13 MPG hog that it is. She likes the truck, but I don't like the $65+ per week in gas she is burning up just driving around town. She is in love with the HHR, and since I found out they withstand an accident pretty well, I was wondering if it would work for us. We have two kids, both in booster seats, 4 and 6 years of age. My wife is a tiny thing, so the seat would not be too far back. No strollers to haul. Just going to be an around town kind of car. NCAP results are conveyed via a star rating system - from one to five stars, with five being the highest. As the 2007 VUE Green Line sets to make its appearance as GM's first true hybrid offering work is being done on the hybrid Equinox. Naturally one would assume that since they are on the same platform, architecture, etc that they would share the same hybrid drivetrain. From what I've been hearing, the Equinox will feature a different hybrid system than the Vue. The Vue uses the "two-mode" hybrid system that at stop lights the batteries take over while the engine is shut down. Could a "true" hyrid be in store for the Equinox complete with batteries and greater fuel efficency? Only time will tell.

It's a very sad day at my house since I know that the time is running out for my 1996 Camaro Z28 convertible. I just recently started a new job that requires me to drive in really ugly traffic and spend 1 hour each way a day - something the Z28 is not all too happy about. So the quest goes to replace it. I like the HHRs and they aren't too expensive even with all the options, and the Malibu MAXX SS in Laser Blue looks really good, so I went to a local dealer this morning to see if I could live with the 172 HP in the HHR.... NOPE! There's no way I could be happy - even sititng in traffic with the HHR. It probably is fine for people that did not grow up with musc…

Saw this in the locked thread and just wanted to clarify since my name was brought up. The bulk of vehicle platform work on Camaro is being done in Australia right now, but there is still work - design, powertrain, etc., etc., being done here in NA. There are no secret Australian programs. It would be silly for GM to even work that way. Are there a bunch of Camaros running around down under? Probably not. Just guessing, but they may be at the point where mules are finally being built. And when I say mules, I don't mean real Camaros. I mean validation work being done on donor VE Commodores (or whatever), for example.

OK, I'm ready to take the plunge!! At my local Chevy dealer, I've found a gorgeous new Impala SS, loaded with everything, which stickers out at $30,665.00. Is anyone paying full sticker or close to it, for a new Impala SS now? How much of a discount can I reasonably expect? I have an 04 Impala LS to trade, in perfect condition, with 34K miles on it, fully paid for. Anyone have any thoughts??

GM puts a lid on Impala output to boost pricing Jamie LaReau | Automotive News / March 20 DETROIT -- How do you make more profit while selling fewer vehicles? By controlling inventory and squeezing more revenue out of each transaction. General Motors is capping production of the Chevrolet Impala sedan at 250,000 units for sale in the United States and Canada this year, a knowledgeable source says. That means GM is sacrificing about 60,000 sales of its best-selling car. GM also will emphasize higher trim levels to increase transaction prices. The automaker is trading unit volume for what it expects will be higher transaction prices, lower incentives and higher residua…

End of the Line: GM Builds Last Chevrolet SSR Date posted: 03-21-2006 LANSING, Michigan — Chevrolet's gorgeous but ill-starred SSR pickup/roadster has reached the end of the line. The last 2006 SSR rolled out of the General Motors Craft Centre here on Friday, March 17. During its brief three-year production run, GM built fewer than 25,000 SSRs, including just 789 units this year. The SSR was plagued by issues throughout its short lifespan, including quality problems, too much weight, not enough power and a breathtaking sticker price. The bottom line was dismal sales, resulting in mountains of unsold vehicles that stacked up on dealer lots. Despite numerous tweaks in…

Ever since Ford reinvented the Mustang for today’s market, DaimlerChrysler and General Motors have conspicuously been without their own retro hero. In a bid to potentially tap into this market, both Dodge and Chevrolet unveiled such concepts at the 2006 Detroit Auto Show: the Dodge Challenger and the Chevrolet Camaro. The Camaro was first introduced in 1966 as a 1967 model, continuing in various iterations until 2002. Now, the Camaro badge has been resurrected to sit on what was one of the main attractions of last month’s show. The Camaro project was launched shortly after the 2005 Detroit Auto Show at the beginning of last year. The brief called for a reinterpretation …

I came out of the grocery store tonight and lo and behold, a brand new yellow Z06. I swear, the feeling, it was like having sex for the first time again. All polished, yellow contrasted against the darkness of night. MY OH MY that rear end looks good! I complimented the passenger who was getting in. "NICE car,!" I said......the reply was, "It's FAST! VERY fast...." Ah, the day I became a man........

as i was reading an article on how the GTO is back on the zeta platform in 2008. i cam across this.... "when pushed on wether GM was thinking about bringing back the El Camino off the zeta platform, lutz beemed with enthuisasm. "the kids in the company-my self included-would love to do another El Camino, but the grown ups amongst us dont shre that way of thinking". It woul be fairly simple. We would only have to put a chverolet face on the Holden Ute. (a car like pickup). The building blocks are there". I think GM need to listen to those "kids".

Traditionally GM has started production of a product on it's last model year early when they are redoing it. Is this true for the Uplander? At the beginning they said it would only be around for 3 years. Can we all be so lucky?

If you don't like Edmunds date for the Camaro start reading AutoWeek. They are reporting in the Feb 20th issue that the 2009 Camaro has been moved up to 2008. I get the feeling info on this is so tight the press is reaching for any clue they can right now. Watch the Camaro web site and posts from Fbodfather for any additional clues. What clues he post do come together in time. They give no other details on the Camaro but they do outline the latest Bluedevil hints. Most of the same as we have been hearing 2900 pounds, $100,000 and supercharged. They did say 7.0 SC but they have been the only ones I have seen to make a 7.0 claim. For the folks that don't like the 08 …

Tahoe puts rush on GM's SUVs March 15, 2006 BY MICHAEL ELLIS FREE PRESS BUSINESS WRITER Some declared the SUV market dead when gas prices topped $3 a gallon last year, and said General Motors Corp. was foolish to invest billions in a lineup of new large SUVs. But sales of the new Chevrolet Tahoe are so strong that GM is now trying to speed up the launch of several other SUVs and ship them to dealerships two to four weeks ahead of schedule, Mary Sipes, GM's vehicle line director for large trucks, said Tuesday. The Tahoe -- with better fuel economy and added features -- has been on sale only since early January, but sales are up 49.8% from January and February last ye…

Reuters / March 15, 2006 - 4:00 pm DETROIT -- General Motors, encouraged by the early sales of its redesigned 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV, is accelerating its production schedule by several weeks for other SUVs built on the same platform, a spokesman said on Wednesday. GM is also asking its parts suppliers to ship components ahead of schedule so it can move to production more quickly for new versions of full-sized SUVs such as the Chevrolet Suburban and the GMC Yukon XL. The moves are key since the success of GM's revamped line of SUVs represent the struggling automaker's most important product launch this year, in a profitable segment of the market that it has long do…

Would it be possible to keep the solid rear axle and have fold-flat 3rd row seats? Envision a cargo/storage well AFTER the solid rear axle (in between the axle assembly and the rear bumper. Pretty much where the gas tank/spare wheel sits. You'd need to move the gas tanks forward (between the frame rails, towards the middle of the vehicle). This is doable. You'd need a longer filler tube, but wtf. A side benefit would be that the weight of the gasoline would be centrally located in the vehicle; helping stability (which shouldn't be a concern on a vehicle weighing 5500lbs to start with, but again, wtf). The exhaust pipe would also need special routing (off to the si…

2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer SS In its own way, it’s subtler. by Conor Twomey (2006-03-13) If there's one thing the TrailBlazer wasn't crying out for it was more power. A new interior, maybe… but not more power! To my mind, the 300-hp, 5300 Vortec V-8 offers about as much performance as the TrailBlazer really needs for the daily school run, but that didn't stop Chevrolet from slotting the Corvette's LS2 V-8 into its engine bay and beefing up the looks and suspension to match. The resulting vehicle is called the TrailBlazer SS, although confusingly, it's sold as a package on LS or LT short-wheelbase models with 2WD or 4WD, rather than being a model it its own right. G…

They had a writeup of the Corvette with the new 6 speed automatic in the new April Motor Trend. Generally the comments were positive, except they did not like the shifter paddle setup. Myself, personally, I'd also like a shifter on the floor in addition to paddles to have a choice. There are times when either is preferable, IMHO. I wonder if I would take a six speed auto or a true manual. MMMMM Choices........ 0-60 in 4.6 seconds.

Chevy Aveo performs poorly in European crash test Posted Feb 27th 2006 2:00PM by John Neff Filed under: Economy The European New Car Assessment Program (E-NCAP), which is sort of the EU equivalent to our own NHTSA or IIHS, recently tested the European version of the Chevy Aveo and found it to be severely lacking in occupant protection during 64 kmh (40 mph) frontal impacts. The risk is especially great to the driver, as the E-NCAP tests showed the Aveo’s steering wheel may cause severe chest injury. The Aveo received two stars and a strike through in the category of Adult Occupant Protection, the strike through indicating there is a high risk for life-threatening inju…

When if ever, do you think GM will offer a 0% (or even like 2.9%) financing deal on the Cobalt? This may be the gentle economic "push" my Mom needs to replace her Grand Am with a new Chevy, either a Cobalt or an HHR.

For fun, if you have a slogan you'd like to see in a future Camaro ad, post it here. Mine can be seen in my new sig. FYI, it came from a series of ads for the Pontiac Firebird at the end of the '90s and the begining of the new milenium. It fit the circumstances, so I decided to do some recycling.

Here are more pictures that I took at the Chicago Auto Show. I will be adding a Chevy truck thread also. The first picture is of the HHR Spring Edition. The second is of the HHR which looks even better in orange. Impala SS: Sorry about it being a little blurry. The Impala LTZ's interior. I think it looks just as good as any of its competitors. The new grill on the Malibu makes it look a lot more desirable. The interior of the Malibu is improving every year but GM needs to put wood trim around the center vents of change the color of the plastic because that section still looks rather boring. Chevy Monte Carlo SS tail light: I personally like the je…
