The most important part is to pay attention. Bring the revs up to 4,000 rpm and sidestep the clutch in the 2007 Callaway C16 and watch as nature telescopes aft with exponential speed, as if someone had knocked the nut off some kind of hydrant and the landscape had suddenly begun to blow past you. Some 616 horsepower from a supercharged V8 has an uncanny knack for distorting the senses. Callaway Cars is well-known among Corvette cognoscenti for some of the baddest Corvettes since the C4 was in diapers, and now the 2007 Callaway C16 is the company's latest example of neck-stretching, head-turning Corvette performance. We drove a C16 for two days and discovered that it wa…

I did not see this story here yet. Not many details, just a vow of at least 600 Hp and a move up in range and price. Snake Charmer Limited-edition Corvette will jump to 600 hp By RICK KRANZ | Link to Original Article @ Autoweek | Published 02/12/07, 9:11 am et CHICAGO -- If 505 hp is good, can 600 be better? Call it horsepower wars. In summer 2009, Chevrolet will add a limited-edition Corvette producing about 600 hp. General Motors' announcement at the Chicago Auto Show last week follows a vow by GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz after the Chrysler group showed the 600-hp Dodge Viper last month at the Detroit auto show. That vehicle eclipsed the horsepower rati…

Ironically to my prior conviction, in considering a replacement for my wife's '03 GP, I am.... shopping with a tape measure. We have a tight-ish 90-degree turn into the 1-car-wide garage door opening, and with the GP at least- it is on the tight side. GP width is 72" and the mirrors do not fold. We would consider either another mid-size sedan or a crossover/small SUV. Space, economy & reliability are primary concerns. I don't pay enormous attention to modern vehicle specs- I had thought the Vue & Equinox were on the same platform- I see now that they're not. Vue is quite petite; must be Equinox & Torrent are siblings, right? GP is: wheelbase: 110", ove…

Shipping company employee carted off to jail for Corvette SS pics Posted Feb 22nd 2007 6:02PM by John Neff Link to Original Article @ AutoBlog SPY SHOTS! 23 Corvette Blue Devil powertrain mule pics! We've just learned that EMO TRANS, the shipping company that was hired by General Motors to transport a Corvette SS mule to Germany for testing on the Nurburgring, has fired the employee who took pictures of the vehicle and posted them on the internet. In addition, the unnamed employee has been taken to jail, though we don't know what charges have been filed against him. This clearly illustrates how seriously GM is taking the development of the Corvette SS, as well as h…

Chevrolet HHR Under Consideration for Europe Link to Original Article @ Edmunds.com ZURICH, Switzerland — General Motors' European operation has announced it will show the Chevrolet HHR (Heritage High Roof) next month at the Geneva auto show in a bid to gauge European interest in the retro-styled hatchback/wagon. On sale in the United States since 2005, the HHR was initially ruled out for European sale due to the reorganization of the Chevrolet brand following GM's takeover of Korean carmaker Daewoo, which now supplies the majority of Chevrolet models in Europe. However, high-ranking GM officials say there is now a very good likelihood of it being placed on sale in s…

Hello, Does anyone mind sharing what they paid for there new 2007 Chevy Truck, comparing sticker versus actual price? I just came back from the dealer and the best I could get for a 2007 2 door extended cab 4x4 Z71, LT1 was $2000 off the sticker. Sticker was $32,800. They told me a story of GM having narrower margins in 2007 for negotiations. Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance!

Mexico, Brazil, South Africa, the UK, et al, could use the infusion of style in their respective Chevy lineups. GM shouldn't rest on the laurels of crusty Daewoos, bland late-model Opels/Holdens, and 90s Chevys. Go look at the respective sites for each country and tell me I'm lyin'. The HHR obviously won't interupt or infringe on the turf of any of the bread and butter Chevys in those markets. Besides, I can't see where it's THAT expensive, plus the car is still small enough and fuel efficient enough, with the Delta/Ecotec mechanicals common enough in the worldwide parts bin. Hell, it would even make a great taxi or cute delivery van in those markets. I think the…

High School Offers Car To Student With Perfect Attendance SANTA ANA, Calif. -- Come to school, get a free car. That's the deal being offered by Santa Ana Unified School District, where students with perfect attendance can enter into a lottery to win a brand new Chevy Aveo, according to The Orange County Register. School officials said they hope dangling the keys to the $13,000 car donated by a local dealership will save the district money by curbing absenteeism. Santa Ana Unified is facing a $17 million budget deficit, and losses up to $40 in funding every day a student misses school. Some critics say the giveaway focuses parents' and students' attention on …

"SS" Won't Go On Just Anything Anymore General Motors Corp. is rethinking the way its uses the SS moniker that has adorned souped-up Chevrolets since 1961. SS -- for super sport -- has traditionally signaled performance versions of vehicles like the Camaro, Impala and most recently the Cobalt sedan. The automaker felt it was getting a bit carried away with the label after putting it on the most recent version of the Malibu midsize sedan. So now only cars with the best horsepower, braking power and handling will get the title. It's part of GM's bid to stoke sales by building exclusivity into some models, a move the automaker hopes will burnish the overall image of a …

While we won't have the full interview up for you until sometime tomorrow, there was one tidbit of information that we wanted to share with you straightaway, and it relates to the next-generation Impala. The enormity of GM's new product onslaught was such that we simply assumed that we'd be seeing an Impala this…

Hi guys, newbie here. I noticed in another thread discussion about Motor Trend's bias against GM in favor of Toyota. Are there any good resources out there that present facts without Japanese bias? I support American car companies and have GM vehicles. I have inlaws that no nothing about cars, swear American is garbage, think Consumer Reports (CR) is the bible, and are ready to trade off their Chevrolet on a Nissan because they had to replace a fuel filter. Anyway, I get an issue of CR to see what their deal is. I find rave reviews of a Tundra that isn't even out yet, nothing very positive in comparisson about GM's GMT 900's, Honda Ridgeline is the top rated p…

Don't have anything to back this up . But the Sydney paper has a good artical on the Camaro and some of what is going on. Here is the most intersting part. Sydney Times Herald: How Holden will shape the next Camaro This may seem hard to believe but the finishing touches to the next Camaro are being done at Holden in Melbourne. A team of US designers and engineers have joined their Holden colleagues to transform the concept car into a reality. Early prototypes have already begun testing on Melbourne roads but they're disguised as Commodores. Just before Christmas, Holden's engineering division completed the first "body in white" - in layman's terms, the first body bu…

Can the New-Look Malibu Help Jump-Start Chevy? By JOSEPH B. WHITE January 2, 2007; Page B1 Link to Original Article @ WSJ Online Say "Chevy Malibu," and some Americans think of a 1960s muscle car. Unfortunately for General Motors Corp., many more think, "rent-a-car." Today, GM officially takes the wraps off the complete design for the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu -- almost a year before the first production models are scheduled to hit showrooms. (Part o…

GM accepts Dodge Viper challenge The new 600-horsepower 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 won't keep its king-of-the-hill position for long if General Motors Corp. Did not see this posted any where so here it is. The dash of the Silverado 427 SEMA truck had a dash with a little Camaro in it. The Speedo and Tach are similar to the Camaro concept as is the console. Don't know if any of this is base of future production items but it would be tempting to use them in show cars prior to release of the Street car. I expect the rest of the dash is not anything Camaro related as it is just to big and truck like. But the gauges on the other hand might be a hint of the production items as they are toned down from the concept. The interior also featured recovered Vette seat.

-- -- -- -- -- -- Pete Wilzbach recently discovered a First-Generation Corvette body that may have originally been mounted on the second chassis ever built. Evidence indicates this is the case – which would make this the oldest Corvette in existence. A report in Old Cars Weekly cites an article by Ken Amrick (Solid Axle Corvette Club) that appears in the Fall 2006 issue of the club’s magazine On Solid Ground. The body has some differences and modifications that seem consistent with historical records showing that body No. 002 was used on a car that served as a test mule for production Corvettes. Wilzbach believes it was used in tests done to determine if the small-blo…

I questioned him about whether or not it was a mistake, and he told me it wasn't and that it would be in Canada as a 2007 model shortly after the new year. I had been told this a few months ago, but I wasn't too sure about it. He confirmed that it is true and that it would be brought over from Europe.

Dan Neil of the L.A. Times drives the Chevy Aveo and gives it a surprisingly positive review. An excerpt: That said, there's something quite agreeable about the Aveo. It's comfortable, solidly constructed, and surprisingly eager to please. The little dual-cam motor will happily pull its guts out to get up to speed. The ride quality is reasonably composed for a short-wheelbase (97.6 inches) commuter car, and the interior noise levels more than respectable. The exterior paint quality and panel gap consistency are excellent. And, let me just say, hand-cranked windows? What a clever idea. The biggest surprise in the Aveo is the interior's quality. The subject of a major p…

I will post this here as this was a Chevy race car during the embargo. There is video on Autoblog.com showing Ed Wellborn driving the Chaparral 2E around the Tech Center. During the Video he said they have thought about doing a Concept car based on the 2E's ideas. Don't know if this will lead anywhere but it is a great video to watch and listen too. Chaparral would be a good name for a limited edition Vette or Camaro as Jim hall had a history with both. It would be a great heritage name to bring back.

If the 2006 Suburban rebates are $6000, and local dealers are offering double rebates, it means I can get a $36K truck for $24K and that sounds good to me. Problem is...there aren't any 2006's at those dealers. They advertise them, but don't have any. Does anyone know of a dealer with 2006 Suburbans in stock? Rebate on the 2007's is $2000, doubled to $4000, but that would put a payment out of our price range. A $24K truck, $4500 down, over 6 years at 10% is a $412 payment which we can handle ($400 would be better, $350 best). But a $32K truck, $4500 down, over 6 years at 10% is way out of budget. I guess maybe we need to look at a nice used 2004... How is the …

Yesterday morning... around 6 or 7, I saw an infomercial for the new Silverado. Very cool. Wish I had a way of recording it, so I could show my grandpa since he wants to replace his 2000 with one.

Crew cabs have arrived at the dealerships. Regular and extended cabs are soon to follow. Many potential buyers have held out on purchasing the outgoing GMT800 models in lieu of the newer models. Supply and Demand would suggest a dealers market. I would like to know if anyone on this board has bought or discussed pricing on the new Silverados/Sierras? Are the dealerships willing to negotiate or discount the price of the new trucks? If so, how much are they coming down? Thanks, Jim Houston, TX.

The plant currently builds the Malibu , Malibu MAXX and Saturn Aura, with a Hybrid Saturn Aura scheduled for release in early 2007. Not the best or most thorough comparison, but still makes a lot of good points, with the Ford prevailing in the end: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drive...photopanel..1.* I'll say it again, too. We have an '04 Suburban, and my mother is a GM SUV lover, but I've now seen and played with several '07 GMT-900's and a couple '07 Expeditions, and I'd choose the Expedition hands down. Much better sorted packaging, more realistic and not inflated pricing (still a bit of an issue with the GM's), more sophisticated and refined under the skin (with the Ford MUCH improved even over the previous model), and just a very well done package throughout. Still love a lot about t…

Let's go down the list of 4-door sedans with 6-passenger seating STANDARD Ford Crown Victoria Lincoln Town Car Mercury Grand Marquis and the list of OPTIONAL 6-passenger seating Buick LaCrosse Buick Lucerne Cadillac DTS Chevrolet Impala So with the Crown Vic possibly going fleet only, a redesign in the mix for the GM and TC, and the fact that GM makes a front split bench optional, who will be left with a true 6-passenger full-size sedan that you don't have to pay extra, special order, or search dealer lots for weeks to find? And why did GM make a split front bench OPTIONAL on full-size cars? Isn't the whole point of buying a full-size car to get 6-pas…

Edmunds Long-Term Intro: 2007 Chevy Tahoe LT Following the untimely departure of our Jeep Commander from the long-term fleet, we felt obligated to choose another full-size SUV as a replacement. A new platform, redesigned exterior and improved interior made the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe LT a suitable choice. It only seemed appropriate that it was also equipped with 4WD. [...] We haven't yet taken the Tahoe on any off-road adventures to test the capability of its 4WD and 3.73 rear axle; although the truck did just square off in a comparison test, complete with a tow-test, with the Ford Expedition. Not to mention we'll begin posting our experiences on the long-term blog page…

LONDON: Monday, 18 December - Car-mony, a musical ensemble featuring five Chevrolet cars and the London Symphony Orchestra, has joined the race as a late contender to top this year’s Christmas single charts. Car-mony’s claim to chart history rests on its song, ‘Honk-a-Tonk Christmas’– a medley of all time Christmas favourites played on car horns, with instrumental support from a brass quintet. The song is a collaborative effort between Chevrolet, one of the biggest car brands in the world, and the London Symphony Orchestra – one of the top five orchestras in the world. The medley will include popular Christmas carols like ‘We Wish You A Merry Christmas’, ‘Away In A Mang…

World Car Fans shows the '08 Malibu? | December 17, 2006 | YellowJacket894 Recently, World Car Fans released a chop of what they thought to be the next Opel Omega. However, whenever I looked at it, I felt something amiss. First off, the proportions were that of a front-drive car (I.E. Epsilon) instead of rear-drive (I.E. Zeta, which a new Omega would be based on). Second, many things matched up with spy shots I, and you as well, have seen of GM's break through mainstream product for 2007: the new 2008 Malibu. Things didn't add up. So, obviously, only one thing made sense to me: WCF used and enhanced images of Chevrolet's new 2008 Malibu to produce their Omega render…

Hey everyone, I don't post here much, but surf quite often. I hadn't seen this posted, but if it's a re-post, sorry. Spy pics of 08 Malibu I think it looks pretty good, the higher belt line makes it look "high-class" and the two-tone interior looks amazing, except the brown steering wheel.

Looks like Chevy has finally given up on being the only 2 door car in NA$CAR. I know the market is small, but I still see quite a few Monte's on the road around here. I've lost my love of NA$CAR racing since they started with the Ford Taurus in '98 and was glad that Chevy stayed true to the 2 door "stock" car. Looks like time has run out. If anyone knows the status of the production Monte, I would appreciate it. http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/news;_ylt=A...=yhoo&type=lgns

DETROIT – Chevrolet announced the new 2008 Equinox Sport, a performance-oriented variant of the popular compact SUV. It has an aggressive stance and a sporting nature, thanks to a lowered suspension, bold 18-inch wheels, a powerful, 263-horsepower (196 kW) DOHC engine – backed up with a six-speed automatic transmission with manual tap up/tap down control – a tuned exhaust and unique exterior appointments. Details such as body color fascias and the elimination of the roof rack contribute to the sleek design, making the Equinox Sport an uncompromising performance vehicle. “The Equinox Sport embodies all of the value-driven performance ingredients that have made Chevrole…

Chevrolet Camaro Concept: Design Note: Recently, I brought you details about the design of the new Dodge Challenger, the concept that served as a precursor to Dodge’s re-entry into the revitalized Pony Car segment. In that article, you got to see a good chunk of images you had to pay-to-see over at Car Design News (which, to me, isn’t fair at all) and read about styling elements, etc. Now it’s time we look at an equally legendary machine: the Camaro These two sketches show a car that in no way is a Camaro and tends to be very futuristic. Cues from GM’s Autonomy concept and the Saturn Curve concept seem to litter these sketches. This early sketch shows cues from the…

FOR RELEASE: 2006-12-05 Redesigned 2007 Chevy Police Tahoe Is The First SUV Designed From Its Inception As A Law-Enforcement Vehicle The dramatically redesigned 2007 Chevrolet Police Tahoe delivers more power, enhanced ride and handling qualities, and more safety features than its 2006 counterpart. It also delivers a great deal of utility, cargo room, visibility and go-anywhere capability. But those attributes are only part of the 2007 Police Tahoe story. What distinguishes this vehicle is the fact that it is the first SUV designed from its inception as a law enforcement vehicle. That designation delivers a great many benefits to law enforcement agencies. “Like th…

Overall, they liked it, but the tone of the review was way too negative. They really had very little to complain about and even liked the 4-speed, but of course they make the review less pleasing to read by adding in a bunch of needless crap (and sometimes false, needless crap). Here's how the review starts for example: "First, the bad news: GM is releasing its newest pickup truck, the Silverado, into one of the most hotly contested segments around -- at a time when full-size-vehicle-bashing is fast becoming a new sport. Additionally, Toyota (whose market share continues to grow) is on the verge of releasing its first crack at this lucrative full-size pickup-truck mar…

I want to say that I have no 'rants' on the 07 - all Raves so far, but thought that this would be a great place to open a discussion for other members to learn about the new Tahoe/Yukon/Escalades. Help the General move some inventory with some facts that people are not learning in the current advertising ( which is dismal by the way ) Let me start by saying that we are having a snow storm here in Iowa this morning. So I got to drive the Tahoe on Ice this morning. It was unbelievable - even with the 20-inch wheels. Okay I was at the dealer for service and I'm bored so I ask about the cool CC black Silverado 4x4 LTZ. Next thing I'm going down the road. WOW it's an amazing pickup. Smooth, quiet, powerful, and we were getting 21mpg down the highway on 4 pistons. It is a very different truck then the 800's. I have an 03 and I would give that thing up in a NY sec for a new one. But one thing, the sun visors suck. Even my 97 S10 had two flaps, one for the side window. And it really felt cheap, now for $46,000 I just need a better sun visor. I mean this thing had almost every option, I think all it was missing was the locking tailgate. Because the gas peddle moved, it had a sunroof, re…

Super Vette Spied! Again! Chevy’s 650-hp Corvette SS caught heading in for EPA testing AutoWeek | Published 11/06/06, 9:03 am et Link to full article and pics @ Autoweek Not even a month has passed since we first reported on Chevrolet’s plans for a super Corvette, a halo model well in excess of the already superb Z06. Judging by these spy shots, it appears assurances we were given earlier this year that the car was on the development fast track (“To Hell and Back,” May were right on target. These photos were taken by George Kachadoorian just outside of Ann Arbor last week. He suspects the car was headed in for EPA testing. While the hood scoop indicates t…
