The November 5th issue of Autoweek offers great praise for the new Malibu. They praised the ride, styling, handling, trunks space, fit and finish. They dislikes the dash lights and the location of the paddle shifters on the wheel. Overall they feel they it the mark and said they were very impress after back to back drives in the Toyota. Som in the group compare the car the the VW Passat. They said the ride is a littler firmer than the avverage Chevy but that is what they need to attract the new buyers. The car tested was the LTZ. They also noted the Chrome trim was a great touch. They were also impressed it was the first Chevy to attract attention [outsid…

2008 Chevrolet Malibu Road Test Chevy catches a wave back into the mid-size game. by Paul A. Eisenstein http://www.thecarconnection.com/contact/in...asp?AuthorID=59 (2007-11-02) Get out of the fast lane, Toyota Camry. Move aside, Honda Accord. For the first time in a generation, General Motors is back with a game-changing mid-size sedan. And the imports better be worried, when they see the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu pull up in their rearview mirror. There was a time when Detroit, GM, in particular, dominated the mid-size market, but that's so far back, many of today's buyers likely won't even remember anything but the more lackluster offerings that f…

Original image can be seen here. For 2008, the Cobalt SS will be turbocharged. For 2009, the 2.2 will be the LAP instead of the L61. There is also a possibility of a six-speed manual transmission. Credit is due to red_wing_2121 and NoRemorse from Cobalt SS.net Forums. Read the full thread there.

This guide clears up a few questions that have been bouncing around. The 3.5L V6 is available, but only for fleet cars. -Andrew L

Linkity GM's full-size hybrid is the real deal. But is it better than a diesel? BY DAVE VANDERWERP, October 2007 This is GM's self-proclaimed "no excuses hybrid." You can have it all: a gargantuan SUV with seating for eight, big 6.0-liter V-8, towing, hauling, four-wheel-drive, and fuel economy. That's right, GM's first "full" hybrid boosts the 4WD Chevrolet Tahoe/ GMC Yukon's fuel economy by a whopping 43 percent on the EPA city cycle and five percent on the highway figure, to a V-6 Toyota Camry–shaming 20 mpg city rating, as well as a 20 mpg highway rating (21/22 city/highway on 2WD models). As part of this "no excuses" business, GM …

Up Close with the Chevy Volt National Tour By Brian Dreggors 23.4mpg. Its not bad considering the 4000lbs of weight my V8 Oldsmobile is pulling along, not to mention the heavy air conditioning draw on another unseasonably humid Florida day combined with the extra-legal cruising speed. Yet as I proudly note my impressive fuel economy, I realize that if I were using the car I was driving to see, I would be averaging just north of 80mpg. And for nearly half of the 106-mile trip from Clearwater to Orlando, I wouldn't have been using gasoline at all. On Monday, myself and Michael (Smallchevy) made the daytrip from Orlando to Miami to see what we may recall one day as the f…

Chevy Takes Another Swing at Relevance By Daniel Pund, Senior Editor, Detroit Email Date posted: 10-07-2007 Linkity The entire weight of General Motors does not rest on the shoulders of the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu. In fact, only several thousand megatons of pressure weigh upon Chevy's latest sedan. When General Motors North America Vice President Gary White says, "We have got to get back in the game here," he delivers the line with stress on "got." And just in case you might underestimate the gravity of the situation, White leaves a half-beat of silence before and after the word. The game he's refer…

I took some flack when the volt was first shown for suggesting the prototype wasn't fully functional. Well now we can see the advanced technology for ourselves: http://sirymarketing.blogspot.com/2007/03/more-on-volt.html I'm not suggesting that there should be more under the hood at this point, but it seems some thought that there was.

If you read the review of the 2008 Malibu in the normal section of Edmunds (not Inside Line), you will find the following review. By looking at the engines and transmission they list, it shows that they just put the 2007 review beneath a picture of the 2008 model. Seems pretty lame if you ask me. Review

Here is something going around on a Mule and speculation it may be a Vette? This is posted on autoblog.com. Hot on the heels of discovering the next-gen Corvette could be offered with a dual-clutch transmission, word is now filtering out that General Motors may be working on adapting the Haldex-sourced XWD all-wheel-drive system currently available on the 2008 Saab 9-3 for use on Chevy's budget supercar. The Haldex XWD is a robust system, as it can send up to 85% of the engine's power to a single wheel. Auto Motor and Sport in Sweden reports that GM engineers have been seen testing a mule with a wider rear track than any Saab currently available, which suggests the sy…

It seems to be pretty standard among the automakers who replace their cars regularly to do an MCE for the fourth model year and replace after the fifth. That is to say: Initial design model years: 2005, 6, 7 MCE design model years: 2008, 9 New generation: 2010, etc... The 2008 Cobalt is out and there is no sign of an MCE. Are we getting one for 2009? Or is GM leaving it to rot on the vine like the Cavalier?

The Ad Campaign You Can't Ignore: Chevy Malibu Sharon Terlep | Link to Original Article @ The Detroit News WARREN -- So much is riding on the new Chevrolet Malibu that General Motors Corp. will back it up with an ad blitz as big as last year's $300 million launch of the top-selling Silverado pickup. The pickup launch went down as one of GM's biggest ad campaigns in history, and now the automaker is vowing similar treatment for its redesigned midsize sedan -- a segment long neglected by Detroit's Big Three. The stakes couldn't be higher for GM and the Malibu, which hits showrooms Nov. 1. The sedan is the automaker's most critical launch in years at a time when more f…

Here is what was in the Pratt and Miller Hauler going to Laguna this weekend. This is for sure not a C6R. It might be interesting to if Chevy takes a few laps in a ZR-1 for the crowd before the race to show a little Street Power. I can only imagine what the Vette team may have cooked up so it may be worth watching. Also from our friends at Badboyvettes.com they got to do the graphics this week on the cars. The web sight is the unoffical racing fan sight for the team [i suspect many of the Pratt & Miller team members are on the site]. Any way the race team mascot Jake [the skull] is on both race cars this week. Jake is normally on the bumpers but he gets the…

Tech Preview: GM Two-Mode Hybrid Pickups Mike Levine | 10-18-07 00:00 PT | Link to Original Article @ Pickuptruck.com If the discontinued GMT 800 Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid was a 'mild' hybrid, then the new GMT 900 Two-Mode Hybrid must be a jalapeno. I recently drove the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid to get a full size, SUV-flavored preview of the 2009 Silverado Two-Mode pickup. The next-gen Silverado Hybrid is expected to go on sale a year from now. General Motors co-developed Two-Mode Hybrid technology with Daimler|Chrysler and BMW. It's more capable and versatile than the parallel hybrid technology it replaces. The original Silverado Hybrid was considered mild beca…

Google Streetview Camera Car Fleet Set to Invade America Link to Original Article @ Gizmodo A camera-toting tipster saw what appeared to be a giant armada of Chevy Cobalt cars in the Google parking lot, getting ready to take pictures of the entire world (or thereabouts) with special 360° cameras. The tipster says he followed a Google camera van as it cruised back to its Mountain View, California, lair yesterday after that van finished a session of picture taking for Google's Streetview navigation site. Exactly what did he see? It was an entire fleet of at least 30 brand-new Chevy Cobalt cars parked behind the building, most without license plates yet. As you can see i…

More lies and spin from GM. If this was such a successful strategy why aren't they continuing it with the Aura and implementing it with the Malibu, potentially a much greater payoff? The peanut gallery here at C&G could do a better job at marketing GM's cars - probably for free. http://money.cnn.com/2007/08/31/autos/gm_v...rce=yahoo_quote The Aura program was successful, said Matt Armstrong, GM's Saturn marketing manager. Aura sales increased 24 percent from June, when the program started, through July, he said. At the same time, the overall market for midsized cars went down 14 percent. July was the second-best month for the Aura since the car's launch in 2006, …

The Stylish all-new Malibu will sell well. I predict it will rise to 250k sales annually from its current 175k. However, I believe this new Malibu could surpass 300k if Chevy did the following. First, I believe that the Malibu should be the lowest priced midsizer in GM's line-up. So, the Malibu LTZ must not surpass the Saturn Aura XR's $24,845 nor should the Malibu LS be priced above the Pontiac G6's Base model's $19,345 (Of course the G6's value model will need to be dropped). The LS & LT models come with a 4-speed automatic only and the LTZ model comes with a 6-speed automatic standard. So, How does this look? Malibu LS $17,845 Malibu LT $19,195 Malib…

Again there is talk of a CORVETTE BRAND split away from CHEVROLET and a mid Engine SUPER VETTE in the future. I think this could work if done correctly. And with KAPPA production moving to the VETTE plant in the future and a possible KAPPA-X BODY merging also it seems even more logical. With the next gen VETTE and KAPPA cars possibly related with KAPPA useing a steal frame (aka todays kappa and base vette) with I4 and V6 power and the VETTE useing a V8 and lighter more advanced aluminum frame (aka ZO6) and other high tech features it could work and cost less then two NEW UNIQUE PLATFORMS. I would hate to see CHEVY lose the VETTE but maby CORVETTE's better future would be …

Camaro coupe starts production in February 2009. The convertible starts production late 2009. Engines: It is unclear whether both Chevy Zeta's will share the same engine lineup, but three engines will be offered in all. The 3.5L V6 (perhaps as a fleet engine for the Impala?), 3.6L V6, and 6.2L V8. At this time, there is nothing else planned (for the first model year at least). 18 inch wheels appear to be standard, while 19s and 20s (20s being available in 2 different widths) will be optional. Most likely, the 20s will be standard on the 6.2L model, so that a staggered setup can be run. Putting the power to the ground will be 275 series tires. And I think that's eno…

GM's new Chevy Malibu will be scarcer in rental fleets Sharon Terlep | Link to Original Article @ The Detroit News WARREN -- General Motors Corp. said that it will cut by half the number of Chevy Malibu sedans it sells to daily rental car fleets with the madeover 2008 model. The Wonderful World of Oz By Bob Lutz, GM Vice Chairman | Link to Original Post @ GM Fastlane Blogs I just completed one of my better business trips! I have never experienced an automotive company, including my three years at BMW, that has so much passion for excellence and dedication to the product. It’s contagious. Here is some note on the new Camaro by Bob on Edmonds SANTA MONICA, Calif. — GM product guru Bob Lutz has confirmed that unlike the Camaro concept car and the 1969 Camaro it emulates, the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro will not be a true hardtop when it reaches production. Despite the fact that GM Chairman Rick Wagoner originally said the 2010 Camaro would be "virtually identical" to designer Sangyup Lee's concept that debuted at the 2006 Detroit Auto Show, Lutz confirmed that the production Camaro will in fact have a B-pillar, making it a standard coupe instead of a traditional hardtop coupe. Lutz said the standard coupe structure is necessary to keep production costs down and…

I e-mailed Mr. Lutz a few hours ago to covey our support and enthusiasm for his dedication to the Chevrolet Volt and to also ask him about mules and prototypes, specifically when will we see first evidence of the E-Flex system outside the lab and on the road (and when folks can drive them). Part of the response is as follows: "The early testing before production can legally only be done by GM people. What we will drive next spring will be crude mule vehicles consisting of cut-up last generation Malibus containing experimental battery packs. Nothing can be driven by the public before the end of 2010."

I just purchased a 2006 Colorado 4x4 Extended Cab Z71. Toyota Takes A Swipe at GM’s E-Flex Link to Original Article @ Green Car Congress | 4 September 2007 Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) is positioning its emerging approach to plug-in hybrid vehicles—based on augmenting the battery pack of a conventional hybrid and altering the operating strategy—as an approach superior to that of the series-hybrid architecture of GM’s E-Flex systems, as represented by the different versions of the Chevy Volt. The rationale, outlined by Toyota Executive Vice President Kazuo Okamoto in a presentation about the company’s technology strategies to investors in Tokyo on 3 Sep, is that once current parameters such as driving range, required bat…

Link to Original Article @ Edmunds Green Car Advisor General Motors Vice Chairman Bob Lutz raised eyebrows in battery development circles when he said recently that GM was “100 percent confident” that it has whipped the overheating problem that is hampering development of lithium-ion battery packs for electric and hybrid cars. Now the General’s secret can be told. Tony Posawatz, vehicle line director for GM's E-Flex electric vehicle platform, told Green Car Advisor during an interview in Detroit that instead of mounting a frontal attack on battery design for the Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric car that is un…

Our one year old 2005 Tahoe has had a broken liftgate handle for over a month now -- according to the local Pontiac/Buick/GMC dealer that I use for service on this car, apparently GM has been using a new, cheaper liftgate handle for the last year or so, and there are like 200 backorders around the country for this specific part. The car is still under warranty, so I'm not worried about any costs, but has anyone heard anything about this? It seems incredible to me that there would be so much trouble with such an item, as this part should not have changed since the 2000 model year... What's up here? On a sidenote, I just returned from a short family vacation in the m…

I could wait a few weeks if it will save me a few grand P.S. Which models would you guys recommend for a 23 year old student? I was looking at the Pontiac Vibe, I like the fold flat seats, I can sleep in that thing!

SPY SHOTS! 2009 Chevy Corvette SS Room for Supercharger, Carbon Fiber Roof and More Link to Original Article and Spy Shots @ Popular Mechanics DETROIT — Here's our latest look at what the Corvette folks have been working up for the ultra-fast coupe class, the 2009 Corvette SS. At least SS is the name most used in referring to this 600-plus-hp, supercharged beauty. You might think it looks like today's Corvette, except for the tape over the fenders and the black covering on the hood. But you'd be wrong. Let’s go through the subtle—but very important—changes needed to make this a 200-mph car for the track. We think the hood covering hides a new bulge there—a necessary …

GM May Make 60,000 `Volt' Electric Cars in First Year By Jeff Green | Link to Original Article @ Bloomberg Aug. 22 (Bloomberg) -- General Motors Corp. may build as many as 60,000 of its Volt electric cars for their inaugural year on the market, four times the sales of Toyota Motor Corp.'s hybrid Prius in its U.S. debut, people with knowledge of GM's plans said. Production at that level may allow GM to sell the plug-in Volt for less than $30,000, said the people, who didn't want to be identified because the plans are confidential. The discussions show the Detroit automaker, racked by losses and U.S. sales declines, believes an affordable electric car will help spur a …

copy and paste: http://www.carspypics.com/images/interiorbig.jpg Take a real good look and you'll see: 1. The seat belt is not attached to the driver seat (possibly on the roof?). 2. Auto tyranny and the gear indicator. (Around the word Car). 3. To the left of the steering wheel there is circle headlamp selector. Like the one you see on many gm cars: Impala, DTS, GMT-900, ect. 4. Steering wheel looks like it’s toned down (compared to the concept), also there are silver accents on it. 5. On right gauge it appears to be a fuel or engine temperature indicator and a speedometer. 6. 75% sure that there is a passenger door grab handle as seen on the Saturn Sky.…

GM pedal to metal for Malibu Automaker plans to pump $100M in a marketing blitz for a redesigned '08 sedan critical to its future Sharon Terlep | Link to Original Article @ The Detroit News NOVI -- General Motors Corp. plans to pump more than $100 million into a massive marketing blitz for its upcoming redesigned Malibu sedan, the automaker's most critical car launch in years. Chevy HHR A turbocharger roosts under the HHR’s retro-styled hood. BY ERIK JOHNSON, August 2007 As Chrysler uses Detroit’s annual Woodward Dream Cruise to roll out another snoozer special edition of the extremely long-in-the-tooth PT Cruiser—this time the Sunset Boulevard Cruiser, inspired by a street 2300 miles and several tax brackets away from Motown’s famed Avenue—Chevrolet has decided to inject a little bit of muscle into the event. Make that a very little bit of muscle, because the bow-tie brand has seen fit to unleash upon the world the Chevrolet HHR SS, which is, of course, based upon the diminutive HHR trucklet. Where’d A Little Truck Like You Get All Them H…

2007 Chevrolet Suburban LTZ - 2nd Quarter Update Suburban takes on every challenge By WES RAYNAL AND BOB GRITZINGER | Link to Original Review @ AutoWeek If our long-term Chevrolet Suburban has taught us anything in its first six months in our hands, it is this: Sometimes you find yourself in situations that require hauling huge piles of gear or a boatload of people, or both. In those cases, the Suburban has no peer. Simple, no? For proof that the Suburban is one of the more useful vehicles on the planet (and the most requested in our fleet), consider that we’ve put 17,043 miles on it in just six months. If we keep up that pace, the truck will easily rank in the top fi…

GM sees future for Moraine plant Link to Original Article @ Yahoo! | Tuesday June 26, 3:09 pm ET The mid-size sports utility vehicles made at the General Motors Corp. Moraine assembly plant continue to be a strong piece of the GM sales, a GM regional leader said Tuesday. Steve Hill, general manager of GM's North Central region, said the vehicles -- particularly the Trailblazer and Envoy -- are part of the automaker's portfolio for the foreseeable future. Hill, who focuses on sales and marketing, was in Mason at Kings Island Resort to talk with about 200 local GM dealers. "Mid-size utilities have been a home run in the marketplace," Hill said. 2007 Chevrolet HHR Panel LT Chevy puts an unserved niche in its crosshairs By KEVIN A. WILSON | Link to Original Review @ AutoWeek Thanks to Napoleon Bonaparte, England is often derided as “a nation of shopkeepers.” We’d wager there are far more of them here, though. The American entrepreneurial spirit and the number of small-business owners leave one to wonder why it’s been decades since Detroit built a mass-market panel wagon like the new-for-2007 Chevrolet HHR Panel. When Chrysler showed a panel version of its PT Cruiser in concept form in 2000, we thought the time had come, but the Panel Cruiser never arrived except as an aftermarket treatment. And Chrysler even ha…

Do I have any hope at all of expecting a decent Chevy mini next time I'm in the market? I understand Lambda is supposed to brng a new van with it, but I've not heard anything about what it will be like. Chevy abandoned vans when the original Venture arrived and the uplander combines ugly with out of date in such a wonderful way . My current van, a '96 Villager is showing its age and functions as a second vehicle. I would like to get a new mini in a couple of years to replace my car, kids are getting big and all, and would like to move back to Chevy again. So does anyone have any info on features on this proposed van?

In the parking lot at my work (near airport in Houston), I saw a bright red, brand new Impala SS rental. I knew it was a rental because of the bar codes on the back windows. I didn't realize GM was selling the V8 W bodies to the rental car companies. I also saw a GXP Grand Prix with the V8 as a rental too not to long ago. Pretty cool actually. I wonder if the average Joe renting one of those is completely shocked when the press the gas down and realize (or maybe not realize) that they're driving a car that can easily run with a $40,000 IS350?

The only new news we have had was the Movie and some toys. Chevy we need a little new news! Any way the mules have to be in plain sight somewhere but what are they. They should be well into testing and racking up miles on driveline parts and we know they are not just on test tracks. Intro time is not al…

Here is the question. Is the Cobalt up to standing door handle to door handle, wheel to wheel with the Mazda 3 and the Civic? We keep talking about price and buy American, but this really is using cost and fear to possibly cover up the fact that the Cobalt is not all it should be. I love the Cobalt and think GM did a great job with updating over the Cavalier. However, I also think that we need an even better small car for GM to compete in this time of $3.29 gas and student loans that take twenty years to pay off. So here goes...this is to be a serious discussion. 1. Where does the Cobalt have it over its competition? and 2. Where should GM best use its crea…

Chances of a Mid-Engined C7 Corvette? Link to Original Article @ Winding Road This issue of Winding Road showcases a discussion with some analysts and experts about the direction the next Corvette is going to take and while its all but certain that the C7 will be a front-engine rear-wheel drive car as it has been for over a half century, the possibility is entertained that a mid-engined 'Vette could be sold alongside a tradtional one. Click here for the article in its entirety. Quick notes: Final designs have been submitted to Ed Wellburn from design teams this June. C7 (GMX711) will debut in 2011, coinciding with Chevrolet's centennial. One possibility is for a mid-…
