The lease is up on my wife's '06 Dodge Caravan SXT and we're looking for replacements. One vehicle we're NOT considering is the '08 Mopar minivans. The things are butt-ugly and they're even larger & heavier than the outgoing models. Yeah, the interiors are pretty nice and they've done some remarkable stuff with ride quality and sound insulation on the new models. But unfortunately, they're now big tubby tanks and have been supersized right up & out of our league. Saw an ad for price-leader "program cars" at a local Chevy dealership so we popped in to have a look. They let us have an '07 Malibu Maxx LT for the weekend to evaluate it. The car has 15,900 miles on i…

Hey guys I was checking my email this morning before heading up to work and I ran across this article on Yahoo about a guy in Wisconsin with a 1991 Chevy pick up that, as of Friday rolled over 1,000,000 miles. All I have to say about it is.....Chevy, the most dependable, longest lasting trucks on the road... Like A Rock!

Link to the story is HERE All in all a good review. The complaints made were to be expected since they mostly revolved around the quality of the interior which could certainly use some improvement. Let's hope GM brings the interior of this vehicle up to par as they have with *most* of their recent MCE's and redesigns.

Anyone else find it odd that the Volt was missing from the Chicago Auto Show? They had an entire section in the Chevy display promoting green vehicles, but leave out their trump card?! They also left the hy-wire at home, which I still think is the ultimate future of cars.

The new gas mileage figures for the 2.2 liter 4cyl in the Cobalt is spot on with 95% of the foreign small cars. It gets better or near the same gas mileage as any scion, versa, civic . . . Funny, when they start to use real life figures GM cars shine. Something us fans of GM have been saying for a long time!

Link to AutoChannel WASHINGTON, Jan 31, 2008; John Crawley writing for Reuters reported that General Motors Corp plans a strong production run for its plug-in Chevy Volt, according to a senior executive on Thursday who also urged Congress to approve tax incentives to help spark demand. Jon Lauckner, GM vice president for global program management, said the automaker is mindful of the current high costs of battery development but expects the per-vehicle price to drop as the technology improves. "As volume scales up, you will move down this curve to see better economics going forward. You can't get hung up on the economics of the first unit or the tenth unit," Lauckner…

FYI: I do not in any way say this is accurate info as I have not seen it anywhere else. This is just for your information and was publised in the April Popular Hot Rodding page 94. So please no wagering! :AH-HA_wink: PHR Factoid: Not So Fast Camaro Breath If you've been saving your cash for a new V8 Camaro you may have to settle for a V6. Due to tighter Fuel Economy Standards and Planned allotment of V-8s in truck , it looks like Chevy will have to limit Camaro V-8 Production in the first year to just 7,500 units. {[Translation : big dealer mark-ups and long waits.] On the good side, Chevy has killed the lo-po V-6 version, making the $25,000 300 HP V-6 the base…

Linkity Camaro Goes Hybrid, As GM Axes Rear-Drive Impala, LaCrosse? General Motors has been forced to rework the investment case for the Chevrolet Camaro in the wake of new fuel-economy rules adopted this past December. The Camaro will still be built, but higher-end V-8 versions likely will be priced higher than expected. As for other planned GM rear-drivers–a new Chevrolet Impala, Buick LaCrosse and the replacement for the Pontiac G8 due this spring–all have been dropped along with a new V-8 engine GM was contemplating building. "You can't kill something that was never approved," said one GM official, who asked for anonymity but w…

Is it too early to talk about a 6th gen Camaro? Might as well, between CAFE and Zeta production decisions, I have a feeling the 5th gen may not be with us for very long. I'll start. The 6th gen (if there even is one), would need to be smaller and lighter than the 5th. It will need to be in order to help GM with their CAFE goals, plus a tidier package would be a good thing for a pony car. It will also need to share it's architecture with a family of CAFE friendly vehicles, in order to make it economically viable. Alpha is the only architecture which comes to mind. Although a next gen Camaro would need to be heavily invested in I4, turbo I4, and V6 powertrains, I su…

Link to AutoBlog Talk about finding a good used car. Frank Orsenick bought his '91 Silverado in 1996. At the time, it had 41,000 miles on the clock. After 11 years of service (and a lot of driving), the old pickup is about to reach a milestone. Frank had the oil changed last week, just as he has every 3,000 miles since acquiring the Chevy, and it's sure to be the last one it receives as an everyday-use vehicle. You see, it's just 1,200 miles away from spinning past the 1,000,000-mark on the odometer. When it hits the big number, Frank is going to put his faithful ride into retirement. As for how he got this far, Orsenik credits regular maintenance and "a little luck." …

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drive...photopanel..1.* so Edmunds gets sharp tongued at GM for making a hybrid. they test it for a lousy 887 miles to come up with a final verdict on mpg, and most of it HIGHWAY where the greatest mpg gains in hybrids are in town. They would not test a prius the same way. again, biased edmunds. but read it and get your own take. they can't stand how well executed it drives so they rigged the story to find as many ways to talk negatively about it as they could.

Ok - just a random question... We've seen spy pics of the Camaro and Challenger on Detroit Area roads. Has anyone seen or been able to substantiate any chance they may share the same roads at the same time? Seeing both of them together by accident (nudge-nudge-wink-wink) would be a major buzz generator. Maybe our Detroit area C&G'ers could enlighten us?

Edmunds The Chevy is overwhelmingly picked as the number one entry, in a three-way even comparison with like-priced 4 cylinder Accords and Camrys. Accord also rates highly to many, though the Camry is picked as the laggard of the group, except when a Camry owner actually tests his own car against the competition. I smell some buyer's remorse. The interior is even the gray color scheme! This is a great example of what discerning Americans getting a chance to see the competition side by side pick the Chevy above the competition!

Link to AutoBlog The 2009 Corvette ZR1 has arrived, but speculation surrounding the next-generation C7 model and a possible mid-engine variant continue to persist. Bill Visnic from AutoObserver claims that the idea of a mid-engine Vette, either as a variant of the C7 or a replacement of the current front-engine model, is still being discussed by top engineers involved with developing the next iteration of Chevy's iconic sports car. The main argument against the idea of a mid-engine Vette remains the price tag, as costs would drive up the price to above $100,000. While the ZR1 is priming the public for the concept of a $100,000 Corvette, the current base model remains …

GM to Build New Chevy in Tennessee Jamie LaReau and David Barkholz | Automotive News | October 1, 2007 DETROIT — General Motors will build a new mid-sized Chevrolet crossover at its Spring Hill, Tenn., plan beginning early next year. The vehicle, to be called Traverse, will arrive in showrooms as a 2009 model, sources say. The Traverse will be based on GM's Lambda architecture, which is used for the GMC Acadia, Saturn Outlook and the Buick Enclave. Those three crossovers are assembled at GM's plant in Delta Township, Mich. United Auto Workers and management officials have told Spring Hill workers that the new Chevy will be priced about $10,000 below the Enclave. Th…

Despite all the technology in the new cars (R8 and Van V8), the new LS series V8 just keeps proving to be a sweet engine. Before you get your hopes up too much, keep in mind this is a fairly base Corvette going up against cars the start at $70k more in price. Also remember that the F430 and the Vette are 3 to 4 years old. The list of excuses is long and goes on and on :AH-HA_wink: Funny thing is Vette may have fared better if not for the optional suspension http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?se...article_id=6169 Vette - All Power all the time V8 Vantage - Better battle for the XLR F430 - Lawdy that's expensive R8 - Who forgot the soul?

At 140 mph!!! See the Chevy Cobalt SS do a hot lap in the Nurburgring. This is a GM shot video. I like the way it gets airborne at about the 7:30 section. Its John Heinricy driving in the wet. He is probably GM's hottest-shoed driver. Enjoy!

What Works: Handsome styling inside and out; fit and finish jumps a leap forward; sure-footed chassis; not-too-hard/not-too-soft ride tuning. What Needs Work: Noisy power steering; rear seat feels compartmentalized for 6-footers; one-dimensional mpg-oriented transmission. Bottom Line: The new Malibu jumps smack in the middle of most consideration lists. It might even sell well to the lost generation in California. Chevy Tahoe Hybrid wins 2007 Green Car of the Year Link to Original Post @ Autoblog Surprise, Surprise! Founder of Green Car Journal Ron Cogan announced that the third annual Green Car of the Year Award would go to the big GM Hybrid SUV for its innovation in demonstrating that a vehicle with lots of people and cargo hauling capability could still offer fuel economy equivalent to that of a much smaller four-cylinder sedan. Of the five nominees that include the Saturn Aura Green Line, Chevy Malibu Hybrid, Nissan Altima Hybrid and Mazda Tribute Hybrid, GM's Two-Mode Hybrid system is clearly the most innovative.

Did anyone else see it? There is a Tundra parked on the side of the road. A guy driving a Silverado pulls up and asks the owner if he needs a ride. Now, for a split second I was expecting and hoping that the reason for the Tundra being on the side of the road was a snapped camshaft. While it was disappointing that this was not the case, it was also AWESOME that the reason was the Tundra RAN OUT OF GAS. The commercial then went on to illustrate the same regarding the Ford F-150. FINALLY. This is the kind of advertising GM needs. Tell people why GM's trucks are better than Toyota's.

A buddy of mine that is a salesman at the local dealer called and let me know they got a new Bu in. It was a base mode in bluel (wheel covers, 4 cyl, just over $20k price tag). So wifey and I took it for a spin... Here's some of my thoughts Very quiet interior, good sound deadening of the motor (wife has '00 ALero 2.4 4 cyl... noticable difference in noise) Nice stable roll in corners, very good for a family sedan Power of the base 4 cyl was as to be expected Back end looked better in person Love the use of the chrome around the license plate Very nicely desinged dash Has a few blind spots... 'A' piller is even kinda big?? Also gotta be cautious while back…

Decide for yourself... it would appear that MT likes the Malibu at least as well as the Accord: http://www.motortrend.com/oftheyear/car/11...let_malibu.html http://www.motortrend.com/oftheyear/car/11...nda_accord.html We won't know until there is actually a comparo, though. I expect all of the rags to have their own comparison of all the midsizers soon enough.

Yesterday while driving home on a busy tollroad I saw a Chevy car that a pick up back on it that had what looked like a stepside kinda of like the Ford Ranger Edge where it is not truely a stepside but kinda looks like one. This was very new car. It did not look full size. It looked like the size of a Cobalt. My friend ( who is not that into cars ) said "is that the new El Camino you told me about" I said no, it cant be. They dont even make them yet. I thought it could be a car from Mexico as I live in Texas and we see strange vehicles from all makes with Mexican license plates on them but this had what I thought was Texas plates. I couldnt get up close enough to see or e…

Has anyone seen the new Malibu commercial? It shows a Camry, then this suspensful music and the camera pans to the Malibu's imposing front end and up comes the text "CAMRY BEWARE" Car & Driver, November 2007" with the accompanying voice saying "Malibu, the car you cant ignore." It's a pretty good commercial. Short, and gets its point across.

GM sees "showdown" with Toyota on electric car Thu Nov 15, 2007 9:09 AM GMT | By Kevin Krolicki | Link to Original Article @ Reuters LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - General Motors is on track to road test its Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid early next year and to produce the rechargeable car by late 2010, setting the stage for a "showdown" with Toyota, a senior GM executive said on Wednesday. As the race to bring a mass-market, rechargeable electric vehicle to market heats up, Bob Lutz, GM's head of global product development, said the largest U.S. automaker remained on track to launch the Chevy Volt in November 2010. "A lot of our team members working on the Volt keep telling…

The Detroit Free Press has not been one of the nicest when it comes to covering American cars in the past and even the present. This is a trend that is not just reserved for the Detroit papers, but for all the nationwide media. More and more excellent reviews of the Malibu are spreading like wildfire. GM @ South Florida Auto Show 2008 Malibu LTZ The Malibu is a wonderful looking car inside and out. More handsome than either the Accord or Camry and with a superior interior, too. You can count cutlines and worry about the material five inches under the seat all you'd like, but the look and functionality is far superior to the doofy Toyota and lousy Honda interfaces. Plus, nothing looks more ridiculous than the Accord's gearshift indicator. Like a playtoy. Malibu hybrids were at both shows, but the Tampa show had an interesting variation...

I am seeing tons of shiny white Uplanders at US Post Offices, and in many other places of business. So, some questions. Are fleet buyers getting them instead of full sized vans? Is the USPS getting them since they can run E85? Will the Uplander maybe continue past 2008, since there are very few affordable vans for fleet buyers? EDIT: I re-read the AutoWeek article which says 'into 2009', so look for more at your local PO. The white Uplanders have replaced the boxy UPS looking trucks in many PO districts. And seen a few contractors/utilities with them instead of full sized vans. Big question is, did Ford/GM make a big error thinking minivans with sliding doors are…

I found an article from the February 2004 issue of Motor Trend. The article is a comparison between the then-new Chevy Malibu, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and Mitsubishi Galant. Here is the money quote from the Malibu (which placed 3rd of 4, beating only the Camry) : "After years of producing also-rans, Chevrolet has turned out a family sedan that's competitive with the best in its segment. Families especially mindful of the bottom line need look no further." -Motor Trend 56.2 (Feb 2004): p92(11). (3745 words) I think we're hearing much of the same now with the new Malibu coming out. Only time will tell if this new generation escapes the journalistic fate of…

Linklity With Nov. 1 Press Embargo out look for more first drive of the Chevy. Chevy Delivers on the Hype By Daniel Pund, Senior Editor, Detroit Email Date posted: 11-01-2007 Here's the short answer on the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu: It's good. After almost a year's worth of buildup and anticipation, we have now driven the new Malibu. So the time has finally come to pass judgment. You'll forgive us if we were a bit skeptical about the vehicle that GM's car khan Bob Lutz calls "one of the most important in 100 years for Chevy." We've been through this more than a couple times with domestic c…

Hey all, I've been coming to the site a lot over the years but haven't had any real reason to post until now. I just saw a Chevrolet Lumina SS at lunch today. I got pictures and e-mailed them to FlyBrian. I was surprised since I have not seen any mention of this car anywhere. So hopefully FlyBrian can get those pictures up...they are crappy camera phone pictures, but they do show enough of the car that you can tell it is a rebadge. Perhaos they want to release it as a Chevy too since they are releasing the G8. -Bryan -------------------------------------- SPY SHOTS! Chevrolet Lumina SS

I was browsing on Chevy website, and it said that the 2008 cobalts have following curb weights: Coupe: 2681 Sedan: 2747 The 2007 cobalts show the curb weights as Coupe: 2991 Sedan: 3216. (Source edmunds and carsdirect) That is a huge weight loss especially for the sedan. Wonder numbers are correct. If I am not wrong, the 2007 Cobalt specs on Chevy website were Coupe: 2850 Sedan: 2980 Wonder what is Chevy doing.

SUV with mind of its own wins robot car race Sun Nov 4, 2007 4:03pm EST By Peter Henderson VICTORVILLE, California (Reuters) - A souped-up Chevy Tahoe sports utility vehicle with a mind of its own was declared the winner of a robot car race on Sunday after it traveled without help from humans for six hours and 60 miles around a California ghost town. Nicknamed Boss, the vehicle from Carnegie Mellon University of Pittsburgh won a $2 million prize in the third such race sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense, which wants robots eventually to drive military supply vehicles. Orion plant cheers Malibu work Oakland Co. factory will manufacture 10 to 25 percent of redesigned sedan, which has garnered glowing reviews Sharon Terlep | Link to Original Article @ The Detroit News A few months ago, workers at General Motors Corp.'s Orion assembly plant weren't sure their factory would survive past this decade. But now, they're gearing up to help build the Chevrolet Malibu, one of GM's most promising new cars. It's work that could add up to 300 jobs by next spring, local union leaders said. Workers learned this week that the sprawling factory in northern Oakland County will manufacture anywhere from 10 percent to 25 percent of the much-hyped new M…
