General Motors + Jesse James = Hydrogen?
by Guest Josh- 7 replies
- 2.9k views
Yes, it may be hard to believe, however I feel a golden opportunity by the General to flex their muscles in the hydrogen market is upon themselves and in a very mainstream way. On the popular show featured on "The Discovery Channel" Jesse James went out of his way on "The Tonight Show" (dated 10/06) to make mention he had thought of an idea to have his hit show invent a vehicle that runs on hydrogen....and only hydrogen yet still beat BMW's land record for top speed. General Motors would be a fool to pass up such an opportunity. Flex your muscles, share some (but very limited) knowledge that we know on hydrogen with the show and start paving the…

A dealer here is advertising buy a new chevy truck/suv and make no payments til 2007. First off, I'm laughing because 'another manufacturer' did this before and it still receives criticism around here, LOL...but I'm wondering if this is just one dealer that dreamt this up here local, or is this a new GM sanctioned sales tactic/gimmick. Is a GM deal or just a local thing? If it is a GM deal, this hits a new low in incentive tactics! If not, the dealer is darn desperate to move all those gas sucking trucks and SUV's!

GM in talks with Romanian govt on investment Last Update: 8:27 AM ET Oct. 6, 2005 Marketwatch.com story BUCHAREST (MarketWatch) -- General Motors Corp. (GM) is discussing a potential investment in Romania with the government, a General Motors Europe spokesman told Dow Jones Newswires Thursday. The spokesman, Marc Kempe, declined to elaborate on the nature of the investment. The Romanian government said last month that it is trying to persuade U.S. auto makers General Motors and Ford Motor Co. By Jason Stein Automotive News / October 03, 2005 DETROIT -- General Motors is confident that its Saturn Vue Green Line will save fuel -- at a price that makes it easier for buyers to swallow the extra cost of a hybrid. Mark LaNeve, GM North America vice president of vehicle sales, service and marketing, says a premium of $1,000 to $1,500 is "in the neighborhood" of what GM will charge for the gasoline-electric hybrid scheduled to arrive next summer. Other automakers, such as Ford, Honda and Toyota, charge a premium of $3,000 to $5,000 for their hybrids. A front-wheel-drive, four-cylinder version of the 2006 Saturn Vue has a s…

Canada Losing It's Cost Advantage Over US Plants

TORONTO (CP) - The highly regarded factories of General Motors of Canada are in danger of losing their long-standing labour cost advantage over GM's American operations, an executive of the world's largest automaker said Monday. GM Canada's new three-year agreement with the Canadian Auto Workers, ratified by union members during the weekend, "drove some cost where we'd rather it hadn't," said Al Green, vice-president for personnel of GM Canada. GM won non-wage "offsets" - notably a reduction of health-care costs - to the contract's annual pay increases of 1.5, one and one per cent, plus inflation protection, for its 19,000…

Reuters / September 29, 2005 MILFORD, Mich. -- General Motors sees value in unprofitable hybrid vehicles and is boosting efforts in their development, the Vice Chairman Robert Lutz said on Thursday. Lutz acknowledged the world's largest automaker has lagged in the development of hybrids, which twin a gasoline engine to an electric motor and batteries to boost fuel economy. "That will change very quickly as we roll out our various categories of hybrids, but right now we're not where we ought to be," he told reporters at a GM event here. Chairman Rick Wagoner has said in the past GM will not make unprofitable vehicles. However, Lutz said there is no…

DETROIT -- General Motors Corp.'s board of directors is expected early next week to discuss a possible board seat for Jerry York, a key aide to billionaire investor Kirk Kerkorian, according to people familiar with the matter. Kerkorian, who owns a 9.5 percent stake in GM, said last week that he plans to buy more shares and may seek representation on the automaker's 11-member board. While Kerkorian has not publicly identified his choice for the board, people close to the situation say the 88-year-old casino mogul now is pressing GM to install York as a director. GM spokeswoman Toni Simonetti declined to comment. York, the former chief financial off…

Along with showing us the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet Avalanche, they also had the 2007 Cadillac Escalade and 2007 GMC Yukon Denali there for us to see. The Yukon has a unique front end with a small Envoy resemblance. The back end is much nicer than the Tahoes and the honeycomb grill looked amazing. The Yukon had 20 inch chrome wheels. The Escalade was literally jaw dropping. The whole vehicle is stunning. The front is a large Cadillac type grill with (I dont know how to explain this in words) Buick-like port holes on the fenders along the front doors. It has a large Cadillac symbol on the grill and huge chrome wheels. It was a very deep red colour. We wer…

GM needs only 2 big SUV plants Automaker plans to shift production to full-sized pickups By Jason Stein Automotive News / September 26, 2005 DETROIT - In the face of high gasoline prices, General Motors is counting on improved truck sales to offset modest expectations for its large SUVs. DETROIT - General Motors Corp. presented suppliers Thursday with a new plan the automaker hopes will improve its relationship with them while cutting its purchasing costs. Under the plan, which will be in effect from the last quarter of this year through 2007, GM will set cost-cutting targets for individual parts rather than setting overall corporate cost-cutting targets for 250 to 300 of its top suppliers. GM spokesman Tom Wickham said suppliers have criticized GM for setting overall cost-cutting targets for supply companies even if they were meeting GM's targets for some of their individual parts. Under the new program, a supplier that makes three or four sepa…

crusing lots today I saw the new 06 Grand Vitara. VERY NICE. Nice interior. Exterior is a nice chiseled shape. Whole vehicle seems well made. Cabin seems spacious, very sporty looking. Yes, that's the new GM 3 spoke steering wheel. Seat cloth seems nice. In fact, its the nicest Suzuki interior I've seen and the whole Grand Vitara makes the Equinox and Vue seem like regurgitated puke in terms of looks and quality appearance. A lot sportier looking than an Escape. Engine is a 2.7l v6...not sure what that's from. Pricing was good and warranty is always good with Suzuki. I know this should go with worldwide marques boards, but i thought it would get mo…

Forget Beta, Here's Zeta! Yesterday, C&G brought you the very first spy shots of the Holden Commodore from Australia. That spy shot featured a front 3/4 view of the RWD architecture and also left a few readers in doubt that this was infact the Zeta architecture due to the massive padding and "roof rails" that were so blatantly obvious on these testers. As you can tell in the spy pic down below the RWD Holden Commodore will draw heavily from the Holden Torana concept shown just last year in Australia. The Torana wowed crowds with its athletic stance and it's aggressive styling prompting enthusiasts to beg "When will Beta be made?!" Holden has obviously styl…

Hurricane Katrina's short-term impact on fuel prices highlighted a worst-case scenario for Detroit's automakers: As gasoline prices rise, the product mix could shift away from big SUVs - and profits could shift with it.
