This is still unofficial, but this was posted elsewhere and purports that GM has 3 cars on C/D's ten best list.... When I get the concrete evidence to this i will update the post. Honda Accord Coupe and Sedan Honda Fit BMW 3 Series Cadillac CTS Chevrolet Corvette Chevrolet Malibu Mazda MX-5 Mazdaspeed 3 Porsche Boxter and Cayman Volkswagen GTI congrats GM they need to leave the Miata off there. Personally as stunningly good as the new malibu is, I do not think it quite deserves 10 best yet considering the tightness of the cabin and trunk and the plastic still not being what it ought to be. I don't feel the accord sedan belongs either, FWIW.

click here Is GM's Green Tech Better Than Toyota's? That's what Chrysler, Daimler, and BMW seem to think. They're all using GM's hybrid technology for their new trucks and SUVs by David Kiley In the next 24 months, General Motors (GM), Chrysler, Daimler (DAI) and BMW (BMWG) will collectively bring out at least nine hybrid trucks and sport-utility vehicles, including the Chevrolet Tahoe and Chrysler's Aspen and Dodge Durango, which are being unveiled this week at the Los Angeles Auto Show. But for the conditions of a joint technology agreement among the companies, each vehicle might have a badge on its side-panel that says "GM Inside." That's right, GM, once a lagga…

Linkity At Witz' End: CAFE, the 0.2% Solution Why attack just five percent of it? by Gary Witzenburg http://www.thecarconnection.com/contact/in...p?AuthorID=3016 (2007-11-05) And consider that the U.S. vehicle fleet, currently about 250 million cars and trucks, is growing at the rate of six million a year. Even if those new ones get incrementally more fuel-efficient, their per-vehicle improvements will be overwhelmed by that explosive growth.Given that scenario, the demand for good used vehicles would skyrocket, and what may remain of the auto industry will have to survive on parts and service to keep them running. Is that far-fetched? Reso…

Hillary Clinton calls for 55 mpg by 2030 David Shepardson and Gordon Trowbridge / Detroit News Washington Bureau WASHINGTON -- Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton proposed hiking fuel economy standards to a combined fleetwide average of 55 miles per gallon by 2030. But now there's so few WWI generation folks around to buy them. Couldn't GM see the sales plummeting? They've had several years to do something about it, because the Deville sales have been falling off for a long time. What are they going to do with the 767 laid off? Put them on the jobs bank? Pay $200,000 to buy them out of their contracts? It's like 1 step forward, 1 step back for GM. The sad thing is, it really wouldn't have taken that much to keep the Deville/Lucerne in the g…

In the Middle East the cars are sold as Chevrolets hence the name Chevrolet Special Vehicles (CSV). If it's equipped with General Motors' OnStar service, he could be in for a big surprise and you could get a little revenge -- and even see your car again. Starting with about 20 models for 2009, the service will be able to slowly halt a car that is reported stolen, and the radio may even speak up and tell the thief to pull over because police are watching. OnStar already finds 700 to 800 cars per month using the global positioning system. With the new technology, which OnStar Presi…

It's been a long time since we've seen this. Not long ago, I remember the $ 18.60 +/- stock price. It takes money to make money and one who has spare cash laying around could have bought a chunk of shares, sold them today, and paid Bush's smaller capital gains tax on these (it won't be 15% with the next administration...LOL). In fact, that's what a lot of rich investors have done...they buy strong companies in a down cycle and wait for the upturn. I bought several hundred at $ 21 and sold them at $ 37. Could have done better, but, in less than 2 years, not bad, I guess. Any thoughts on GM stock? Do you see it doing a meteoric rise like Boeing?

OnStar Stays Factory-Installed Only Date posted: 10-11-2007 | Link to Original Article @ Edmunds WASHINGTON, D.C. — After contemplating offering aftermarket OnStar receivers to owners of cars that didn't come with the service built in, the company has decided to limit its product to original-equipment-use only, said OnStar President Chet Huber. I have a few questions about the 2007 agreement. First, is GM getting rid of all HMO's or just select hmo's?? And second, people that are on non core jobs will have to make a desicion. One, retire if elegible. Two, quit. Three, stay on their non-core job and work for less money. Or four, flow back to the line. Now if he or she decides to flow back to the line they will bump somebody with a lesser seniority date. Now when all the bumping is said and done where do the people that got bumped go. And are only new hires going to be the ones filling the non-core jobs?? And last but not least who is elegible for the attrition program?

DETROIT - In the document that spells out the tentative pact between General Motors Corp. and the United Auto Workers, their futures are listed as: "demand and business case dependent," "no future product allocation," or even possible sale or closure. Fifteen factories in places such as Wentzville, Missouri; Wilmington, Delaware; and Flint, Michigan, have been left on shaky ground by the pact that the UAW hailed as having won unprecedented job security from GM. Most of the 15 factories, which together employ more than 40,000 hourly workers, will see their current work go out of production in 2011, when the four-year contract would expire, with the next generation of the…

Some info I have received seems to indicate this, at least in the Lambdas. Expect the Chevy Lambda to launch without a black tie radio, and expect all '09 MY Lambdas to not have black-ties. I would still expect the '09 Malibu to have it most likely, but the phase out is certainly starting. So, for new '09 MY and up vehicles, expect none to have black tie radios. ---------------- Click here to see what the future holds for GM's post-blacktie era radios. GM Purchasing Chief: Raw Material Prices 'Scary' October 01, 2007: 05:55 PM EST The purchasing chief of General Motors Corp. (GM) said that price increases on certain key commodities are "scary" and that the auto maker is looking to reduce consumption and find alternate materials in some cases. The auto maker, like its competitors, is looking to cut costs. But price inflation in key commodities makes that task more challenging for the industry. "The most s…

Dr. Carl Horowitz, director of the Organized Labor Accountability Project and editor of Union Corruption Update, reacted by saying, "This is a great deal for GM. GM deal 'a black day' for Canada's auto sector By GREG KEENAN, From Thursday's Globe and Mail One of the key pillars supporting Canada's long-standing competitive advantage in the auto industry began crumbling Wednesday, less than a week after another one collapsed. General Motors Corp. and the United Auto Workers reached a deal that shifts the burden of retiree health-care costs for U.S. workers to the union. The agreement dramatically reduces GM's burdensome cost structure and once it's followed by Chrysler LLC and Ford Motor Co. , will reduce the health-care advantage Canada has used for more than a generation to help lure automotive investment to this country.…

9.24.07, 11:18am UAW Strikes GM Link to Original Article @ DetNews The United Auto Workers launched a national strike today against General Motors Corp. after 10 days of marathon bargaining failed to produce a new labor pact for the automaker's 73,000 hourly U.S. workers. The stunning move came after the union told its members on Sunday they were to walk off the job unless they heard otherwise by 11 a.m. That word never came, and now GM is facing its first strike since the UAW struck the automaker's operation in Flint in 1998. "Unless you hear otherwise from your International Union and Local Union leadership, you should consider yourself on strike at 11:00 a.m." Loca…

Detroit Media Reaction The lead headline on the Detroit Free Press’s Web site this morning asks: “How long can the strike last?” In theory, the paper says, the answer is: a long time. The UAW has a strike fund that could keep workers off the job for a year, the newspaper reports. “But the frightening effects a national strike would have on UAW members, their households and the many other businesses and individuals who rely on GM for their livelihoods likely would come much sooner.” In the paper’s main editorial on the opinion page, the headline reads: “It’s hard to see any winners in strike.” “Coupled with state government’s impending meltdown for lack…

Hargrove: Up to 100,000 Canadian workers could be idled by UAW strike 1 minute ago | Link to Original Article @ The Canadian Press TORONTO - Tens of thousands of workers at General Motors of Canada and in the Canadian auto parts industry are being immediately hit by the impact of the strike against GM in the United States, Canadian Auto Workers president Buzz Hargrove said Monday. "It's not inconceivable that by the end of this week we could have anywhere between 80,000 and 100,000 people unemployed - mostly in Ontario, some in Quebec - as a result of the dispute," Hargrove said. U.S. Auto Firms Need One Goal: Build the Best! By JAMES B. STEWART September 26, 2007 In another life, I'd love to run a U.S. auto maker. With General Motors on strike, billions in losses, and U.S. auto makers' market share in a seemingly irreversible decline, I can understand why you'd think this is crazy. Maybe I'm an incurable optimist when it comes to American cars, rooted in a love affair that began when my father brought home a 1957 DeSoto with power windows. But Detroit's glorious past isn't the main reason. I'm convinced that all the industry needs is some bold ideas and leadership. I'd like to think that Alan Mulally at Ford is the man for the job s…

What GM's Strike Means to Car Shoppers Link to Original Article @ KickingTires At 11 this morning, the United Auto Workers union went on strike at American GM plants. This basically shuts down production of many new GM cars, trucks and SUVs for the foreseeable future. But does that mean you won’t be able to find that new GM car, truck or SUV when you go car shopping in the immediate future? According to the latest inventory numbers, GM on average has enough vehicles for 67 days at the current rate of sales. Some hot vehicles like the Buick Enclave — built in Lansing, Mich. — only had a 26-day supply, which is roughly 3,600 vehicles, as of Sept. 1. Trucks and SUVs lik…

Or it takes a domestic car and tells them it's a Toyota or another import make. Either way, the result is the same. "If they think it's an American car, the perception of the vehicle falls …

GM To Union: Trust Us Andrew Farrell | 09.13.07, 12:29 PM ET | Link to Original Article @ Forbes With a key deadline looming on labor negotiations, investors were optimistic that General Motors would soon be able to create a new health care trust for its workers and save billions of dollars. GM Design Center - Conceptual Interior Elements In speaking of the future of interior design some months ago, General Motors stated that the black-tie radios seen in virtually every GM vehicle from the Aveo to the Lucerne were a "stepping stone" between the old, often clunky interior controls of the past and the fully-integrated designs coming in the near future. Today, GM released these computer-generated '2007 proposals' of radio/HVAC designs, instrument panels, and other interior design elements. Cars like the 2008 CTS are just the beginning of GM's future design language. And after seeing these, lets hope we caught a glimpse of it. As a note, the captions below are …
