Paris Preview: Audi Q7 V12 TDI Friday, we brought you the initial report that Audi would be dropping a 6.0-liter V12 TDI based on it's Le Mans-winning engine into the Q7 SUV. That report has been confirmed today with the release of additional details and photos from Audi, which will publicly unveil the beast later this month at the Paris show. Our initial report rated the car at 500 hp, but it's actually just shy, at 493 (the 500 rating is in PS). It also generates 1000 Nm / 738 lb-ft of torque, so if you ever feel inclined to pull your house off its foundation, you'll be well-prepped to give it the 'ol college try (if the car makes it to this side of the Atlantic). …

Under the Big Tops Global auto show scene in transition By BOB GRITZINGER AutoWeek | Published 09/08/06, 10:52 am et When auto show season kicks off in earnest at the biennial enthusiasts’ lovefest in Paris later this month, news about the auto shows themselves might steal some headlines from the car premieres. Changes in the Los Angeles show epitomize what is diff¬erent on the global auto show scene: Los Angeles gets official “international” designation and is moving to a new early-December slot for this year, and early November for 2007 and beyond on the annual calendar. For the past 25 years, when the L.A. show convened at New Year’s or immediately therea…

VW’s 2009 Iroc Coupe Scirocco successor to premiere at Paris By GREG KABLE AutoWeek | Published 08/24/06, 9:57 am et Wolfgang Bernhard has barely warmed the seat as Volkswagen chairman and he is already attacking the market with products he hopes make the German automaker cool again. Look for proof in the reborn Scirocco coupe—dubbed Iroc—which makes its global debut in Paris in September. If Bernhard’s plan comes to fruition, it will do for VW what the TT did for Audi—provide the German carmaker with a modern, relevant and desirable image-building model. Iroc is planned for North American showrooms by the end of 2008, the same year VW launches its Land Rove…

Since the '07 releases have been already announced, it sounds like from the rumour mill that there are only going to be 3 new GM models for '08 from what I've seen so far--Malibu, CTS, and Enclave.. (maybe 4 if the Opel Astra coming for Saturn to replace the Ion is in MY '08, though it's not a new car--new to the US, but the current European model, I believe)? Besides refreshes/upgrades of existing models, anything else on the horizon for the '08 MY? (Maybe the Camaro? It will be interesting to see if it will be a MY '08 release...)

2006 British International Motor Show London show wows with world debuts By JULIAN RENDELL AutoWeek | Published 07/25/06, 1:01 pm et -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturn desperately needs a good small car, but it won’t be based on the European-built Corsa hatchback from General Motors’ Vauxhall subsidiary. That was the word from the recent British International Motor Show in London, where the global launch of the all-new Corsa was backed by a high-powered visit from GM headquarters by CEO Rick Wagoner and vice chairman Bob Lutz. GM product czar Lutz said the new Corsa wasn’t engineered with the United St…

So, we'll start this 4 months early... What are you hoping for/expecting to come around this next autoshow season? I'm hoping for the following... GM: Camaro production (or convertible), Impala concept, GTO concept (I want to see at least two Zetas + Camaro) Ford: Mercury Cougar on Mustang platform DC: 2008 Viper Mazda: RX8/RX7 successor Toyota: RWD Sportscar (Supra?) Mitsubishi: EVO X Nissan: 350Z redesign and/or Skyline production That's pretty much all I'm asking for, and I have a feeling most of these will happen. *Note: I didn't include trucks, SUVs, etc. simply because I could care less. The above are what I personally hope for.

I went to the Denver show this evening... wandered around for a couple hours. Random impressions: Saw a Bugatti Veyron for the first time in person. Wild. Loved the burgundy Quattroporte w/ creamy leather. The Aston Vantage looks incredible in person. The Challenger concept looked great, though the A-pillars are awfully thick. The Imperial is huge and strange looking... Sitting in the Impala SS, I realized the 'Like A Rock' slogan describes the lower dash plastics perfectly.. I wouldn't want to be a passenger in one in an accident--two ruined knees from hitting the concrete dash. (same thought applies to many cars). No Camaro.. But I…

Chrysler Crossfire (Probably the only concept there, and maybe a few other Chrysler concepts, the only one's who bring concepts to Portland... ) 7.) Dodge Reprises Another Classic With 2006 Challenger Concept Date posted: 01-04-2006 AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Dodge designers say they drew on the 1970s model for inspiration but stretched the new 2006 Challenger concept and made it a "genuine four-passenger car." The rear-wheel-drive Challenger concept sits on a 116-inch wheelbase, 6 inches longer and 2 inches wider than the original. Dodge resurrects the original Challenger "performance hood" and its twin diagonal scoops — now with functional butterfly-valve intakes — on the new concept. The front end features the signature Dodge crossbar grille and four deeply recessed headlamps. In the rear are twin-rectangle dual…

I'm guessing there will be a few GREAT ones from GM (Blue Devil; speculation of a Camaro or GTO), Dodge will probably have the Challenger, DCX always has some surprises, maybe that Hyundai RWD car they were talking about, maybe the next Supra or equivilent. I'm sure that GT-R/Skyline will be there. Who knows. I can't wait. Who's with me?

Drop-Top Hummer to Make Detroit Debut Date posted: 01-04-2006 SOUTHGATE, Mich. — Auto supplier American Specialty Cars (ASC) will introduce two open-top concepts at the Detroit auto show next week, including the Hummer H3 Cosmos, the first convertible version of the popular SUV. December 23, 2005 Lots to ogle in L.A. and Detroit By Tony Whitney The holiday season will have barely finished before the 2006 auto show season begins in early January. At the Los Angeles auto show, vehicles will be unveiled to the media on January 6th, while in Detroit, media unveilings will begin on January 8th 2006. CanadianDriver will have daily coverage beginning on January 6th. The proximity of the two shows has always been a bit of a conflict, so L.A. show organizers have decided to switch to November/December dates in 2006. That means there are two L.A. shows in 2006, one early in the year and one later on. For 2007, there's just one L.A. show in l…

Show Reflects Diversity of L.A. Auto Market Posted on 1/3/06 3:30 p.m. CST Advertisements hyping this year's Greater Los Angeles Auto Show feature two cars: the $1.2 million, 1,001-horsepower Bugatti Veyron supercar and the Honda Civic Hybrid — a seemingly disparate pair of rides that, collectively, sum up the quintessential and often fantastical L.A. driving experience. The show's general manager Andy Fuzesi noted that Southern California itself represents the market's extremes, as the largest market both for exotic cars and hybrids. The 2006 Veyron will make its North American debut at the show, which will be open for media and industry previews Ja…

General Motors There's no holiday break for the folks at GM — they have much too much going on with the Los Angeles and Detroit auto shows around the corner. Even after all the internet hype and inside info I wasnt convinced, I would still feel better if GM had made an official announcement but I hear maybe after the New Year due to that Canada mess. I dont care about retro, I just want at least the GTOs performance IRS and some sick styling. I really liked the leaked pictures. OK are we actually going to do this? If so we need to pick a date that everyone can attend. I can only do the last week of it, and preferably on that Friday (no classes; free all day). We really should make it work; it would be fun. I'm in, who else?

Detroit show preview: Mercedes-Benz GL450; big GL in a class all by itself GREG KABLE Posted Date: 12/8/05 Big, bold and brassy—that’s the best way to describe the new American-built Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, revealed here officially for the first time prior to its first public outing at next month’s North American International Auto Show. The luxuriously-equipped four-wheel drive goes into production as the third all-new model from Mercedes’ plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and goes on sale across North America in April. Unlike the vault-like, truck-based, G-Class (aka Gelaendewagen), GL-Class uses car-like unibody construction to keep weight in check and to allo…

November 30, 2005 Glimpse into the 2006 Detroit auto show. by Mathieu St-Pierre , Auto123.com As is the case every year, the North American International Auto Show is quite the show. At this point, 6 weeks away from the car event of the continent, over 30 unveilings have been scheduled. For the 2005 show, all the car manufacturers combined for just over 60 premiers and concepts. This means that we should expect the number to double over the next few weeks for the 2006 Extravaganza. So far, nearly every builder that sells their product in North America has indicated that they will have something for everyone. Here is a brief list of what to expect: Audi Q7 SUV…

Car plus sportswear fashion with a Remix Generation feeling ·Projecting an atmosphere inspired by adidas Japan’s Remix Generation seeks comfort, individual style and the freedom to combine whatever, whenever. Nissan designers followed the same path in dreaming up the Note inspired by adidas. Having observed young people’s attachment to sportswear as icons of their everyday lives, the designers considered how cars could be used in similar nonchalant fashion. Inspired by the adidas sports brand, they infused this carefree lifestyle into interior and exterior design and materials. Looking at cars through Remix Generation eyes Sportswear must guarantee ease of moveme…

TOKYO — Lexus is ready to spring the next development in the compact IS story, according to sources in Japan. North America has already welcomed the impressive new 2006 IS 250 and IS 350 sport sedans. But at January's Detroit show, Lexus will unveil a concept teaser pointing to a sleek and different new IS coupe/cabrio, sources say. A successor to the U.S.-designed LF-C concept displayed at the 2004 New York Auto Show, the Detroit 2006 IS concept is much closer to production, it's said, and points to what will be appearing in U.S. showrooms in August 2007. Complete with power-operated top, the Detroit car reportedly packs a 5.0-liter V8 with 450-hp out…

One of the Mercedes CLS sedans up on a display turntable had a burned-out taillamp. I mentioned it very conspicuously to my father, who laughed out loud, which prompted one of the Mercedes reps to climb up and turn the lights off! Also, walking through the VW section, I heard three seperate conversations about mediocre VW customer service and quality. Nice. A few others... *Quite an interest in the Lucerne from more than your typical Buick clientele. *Nice comments regarding the Solstice, Torrent, Terraza, LaCrosse, HHr, Impala, and DTS. *A $35k-ish Charger R/T and $30k Mercury Montego both have hood props?! C'mon... *Civic coupe is just...…

It looks like Chrysler wants something even bigger than the huge test track that they had at last year’s show and GM has “agreed” to split up their brands at the now 1.2-million square-foot Chicago Auto Show next year. Cadillac, HUMMER and Saab will be moving into the North Hall, along with the luxury imports. We can look at this two ways: it sucks that GM, which has been on a bender to remind everyone what brands are GMs, has to split up their luxury marques BUT having them nestled in with the import luxury brands could be a boon for Sabb and Cadillac. http://wardsauto.com/ar/auto_chicago_auto_show_6/index.htm

I thought it'd be good to start a list of everything we might see this upcoming auto show season. This list isn't complete by any means, and I didn't list what show that each vehicle will debut at since most aren't known for sure. The one's with question marks are just guesses and are by no means for sure going to debut. Everyone can add to the list since I probably will forget a lot of things, so just post what I forgot then I'll edit this post. I decided to do it by corporation: GM Buick Enclave LaCrosse Super (?) Cadillac Escalade/ESV/EXT Chevy Suburban Silverado (?) Camaro (concept) Avalanche Aveo (?) (North American d…

Las Vegas - GM's small-vehicle lineup will make a big impact at this year's Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show, proving that with the right combination of technology, great products and accessories, it's possible to pack performance, style and fuel economy into one exciting package. Among the 25 smaller vehicles taking center stage at SEMA are customized versions of Chevrolet's new hit HHR and Cobalt; the new Pontiac Solstice and G6; the Saturn Ion and upcoming Sky; and the new, smaller HUMMER H3. These fuel-efficient vehicles are the perfect canvas for customizers who'd rather spend their money on a killer audio system than at the pu…

Could this hint at the next TT? The Shooting Brake Concept is a study vehicle offering a further trailblazing interpretation of Audi's current formal idiom, blending the powerful dynamism of a sports car with a new sense of spaciousness and greater functionality. With its powerful 250 bhp, 3.2-litre six-cylinder engine and quattro permanent four-wheel drive, the Shooting Brake Concept produces a quality of road behaviour that in every respect lives up to its visual impact. The study vehicle sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.0 seconds, and its top speed is electronically governed at 250 km/h.
