Well folks, as I do every year I went to the metro convention center in downtown Toronto to check out the CIAS. I'm sorry I have no pics this year, as I wanted to save time and to be honest I've never looked at pictures after taking them; so this will be soley text based: Firstly, the disappointment: No test drive program from GM this year as in last year; last year I got to test drive a Lacrosse CXS, GREAT experience! Although I don't blame GM here, it was just fun. Negatives: -The old Aveo was there, why oh why GM would you do this when the Sonic is right next to it? -The Orlando looked and felt cheap...I guess that's because it is, but still. -Anything Scion, th…

U.S. automakers show new cars in China Christine Tierney / The Detroit News Beijing -- General Motors Co. and its Chinese venture partners are displaying 37 production and concept vehicles at the Auto China 2010 show here, including a Chevrolet Volt MPV5 electric crossover making its global debut. GM is introducing a Chevrolet-badged hatchback called the New Sail, too. Its Aveo RS show car, hinting at the next-generation Aveo subcompact, is being shown in China for the first time. We've just added another vehicle to the New York AutoFest3 Invitational on July 18, 2010 in Hicksville, NY. Come see Robert Luczun's "Car-Toons," a 1928 Ford Model AR Roadster Pickup covered in a century of pop culture icons. A rolling history of the comic art form, with airbrushed renderings ranging from The Yellow Kid (first published in 1896) to today's South Park characters. Luczun spent more than 2,000 hours-over a year and a half-painting the truck. "Cartoons appeal to all of us, no matter what age," says Luczun. "Our first instinct when we see figures like Snow White or the Jolly Green Giant is to touch them-see that they are real. Kids are going to want to touc…

Lineup lighter for Chicago show For second year in Second City, event is less eventful Rick Kranz Automotive News -- February 8, 2010 - 12:01 am ET For the second straight year, the Chicago Auto Show will suffer the effects of a tough economy and scaled-back spending. Chicago has never had every automaker, but some noticeable names are missing this year. Hyundai, Volkswagen, Nissan and Chrysler Group will not have press conferences or debuts. But Toyota, Ford and Chevrolet are expected to use Chicago to roll out several updates of current models that will land in dealerships in the coming months. Chevrolet plans to introduce its next-generation Silverado heavy…

First of all, I'm sorry to say I have no pictures. I went with a friend of mine and it was pushing his attention span as it was, and I didn't want to try his patience waiting to get that perfect angle. However, I saw a decent amount of metal so I'll write up my text impressions here: Ford Fiesta: I was never too agog over the Fiesta, but it was nice to see one in person. The sedan was quite ungainly I think; it was definitely not designed with a notchback in mind, much like the Versa. A jellybean with creases. The hatch was also present, in Top Gear mini-mall green, which looked much more cohesive. The interior looked fine, but I'm still not sure why this car generated s…

Went to the new car show downtown today, wandered around a couple hours. Mercedes-Benz was (inexplicably) absent, as was SAAB (understandably) Impressions: GM: Sat in 4 different Camaros, incl. the Transformer edition. Hard to see out of, but overall pretty comfortable. The interior trim and materials look better in person than in the pics, IMHO. Surprised how tiny the trunk opening is relative to the size of the trunk lid. They had a gorgeous dark red '10 ZR1. Was locked and covered in fingerprints. The red Gran Sport convertible was sweet. Loved the CTS wagon. First I've seen, in CTS advert red..love that color. Nice how the rear seat folds flat. Sat in a…

This year's edition of the New York Custom Car Show has been canceled. This 3 day annual event has been a Thanksgiving feature on Long Island for over 40 years. Sadly, a victim of the poor economy. The organizers have decided to not hold the show this year in anticipation of a bigger and better re-birth in 2010. We wish them all the best.

I had the pleasure of attending the C7Performance Fall Tour on Sunday October 25, 2009. I was going to originally drive my Achieva (and debut my new Z24 wheels), but the car is not ready in time (funding lol). I went shotgun in a friends 1984 Camaro Z28, with fellow Camaro club ppl. The cruise is mainly for imports, but open to all makes. About 500 cars showed up. The starting point was the AMC movie theatre lot in Whitby, Ontario, and we then drove in groups to Kawartha Speedway in Peterborough, Ontario. A beautiful, scenic fall drive! Those who wanted to, were able to do 3 laps for $2 at the track. GM Canada had its new models at the event, and one GM tech …

RÜSSELSHEIM, Germany — The Opel Insignia OPC will debut in early May at the 2009 Barcelona Auto Show, with the first deliveries to European customers to begin this fall. Developed by the Opel Performance Center, the Insignia OPC's turbocharged 2.8-liter V6 develops 321 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Delivering power to all four wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox, the engine enables the Insignia OPC to sprint from zero to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds. Ride height has been reduced by 0.4 inch, and the engineers have fitted high-performance front struts and improved the steering. The adaptive suspension is preprogrammed in three modes: standard, Sport and OPC. Also…

FROM: http://www.canadiandriver.com/2009/02/05/p...-13-22-2009.htm Preview: 2009 Canadian International Auto Show, Feb 13-22, 2009 By Greg Wilson Toronto, Ontario - The automotive world has been turned on its ear over the past year, and this year’s Toronto auto show reflects some of that new reality, according to the show’s organizers. The 2009 Canadian International Auto Show (CIAS) will offer a “stunning glimpse of where the industry is headed,” according to the CIAS web site. “Current economic realities and changing consumer lifestyle choices have dictated a new mandate to world automakers: create solutions that meet an entirely new set of criteria: new engine…

General Motors\' Opel division has been hard at work on a performance version of its hot new Insignia, the reigning European Car of the Year, and the first spy shot – probably snapped on someone\'s camera phone – has surfaced online. To be sold as the Vauxhall Insignia VXR in the UK and as the Opel Insignia OPC in Europe, the car is reported to have lapped the vaunted Nürburgring Nordschleife in a hair over eight minutes, which is a blistering fast time for a relatively large hatch. The hot Insignia evidently wears big 20-inch wheels with concave dark spokes and chrome accents, wrapped in 255/35 R20 rubber and capped by bulging wheel arches. All four contact patches are…

Linkity GM Teases Opel Ampera EREV Prior to Geneva Autoshow Car to be Built on Volt's Architecture It was just two weeks ago that GM shocked the automotive world with the Cadillac Converj concept, the first vehicle adapted from the Voltec architecture pioneered by the Chevrolet Volt, and now the company is preparing to one-up itself with the debut of the Opel Ampera at the Geneva Motor Show. "With the Ampera, Opel will be the first European automobile manufacturer to provide customers several hundred kilometers of non-stop electric driving," said Alain Visser, GM Europe's Chief Marketing Officer. This past week was the New England International Auto show at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. Yesterday Myself, my girlfriend, Sixty8, and his daughter spent the day touring the various displays. This year was bigger and better than the last time I went (two years ago), with more cars, a custom section, and a classic section featuring among other things, a Stanley Steamer and a Duesenberg Model J. Sixty8, not surprisingly, spent most of the time around the classics, while my girlfriend watched his daughter and waited in line with Sixty8 and his daughter so she could play Gran Turismo in some floating Subaru thing. Meanwhile I went and checked out the new …

PICTURES: Charlotte Auto Show Displays Strangely enough, all of the domestic automakers were grouped together this year. And by that I mean, all of GM's divisions were together, all of Chryslers divisions were together and all of Fords divisions were together. The Japanese companies chose the opposite approach. Toyota, Scion and Lexus were split up as were Honda and Acura and Nissan and Infiniti. I'm not sure why this is or what mission it served or if it is good or bad or if it really even matters. I figured it was some underhanded attempt by the asians to establish a stronger identity for their luxury divisions since Detroit is struggling, but that could just b…

Here are pictures of the 2009 Volkswagen Routan and CC. I took these today at the Georgian College Autoshow in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. The Routan is pretty nice for a dressed up Chrysler. Open the hood, and it could be a Caravan though. The CC (no longer called Passat CC) is by far one of the sexiest cars this year. It was my favorite of the show (as well as at NAIAS), and one I would pay to own. Simply put, my favorite car of 2008!

Here are pictures of the 2009 Dodge Challenger SXT. I took these today at the Georgian College Autoshow in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. It is an evaluation model to guage public opinion on what a special package should include. I assume this would be a Canada only appearance package. The car had two different wheels. On the passenger side were 18" MOPAR wheels, while the drives side had 18" chrome clad aluminum wheels. Patrons were asked to fill out a survey on which they liked best, as well as should a stripe be included and at what price. I like the MOPAR wheels, and think it should have a stripe package. The first picture explains everything:

Ted took more pics, but his computer is down, so I uploaded whatever I have from my camera. Overall, impressions, well let's just put it that GM can do allot better than this. It feels allot like the Aura. Interior plastics feel cheap, disappointed. With all the time GM had to improve the flaws the Aura had, it feels like they have done nothing. We sat in this car first at the show, so we got to compare. The new Accord, the Camry, even the Magentis, yes the KIA MAGENTIS feels like a car with higher quality than this. I know you guys hate hearing this, especially on a GM fan msg site, however this car is not the promise of "gotta have cars" Lutz is praising about. …

The updated 2008 Toyota Avalon. New front clip, and different tailights. Interior is slightly revised, but it seems I forgot to get a pic.

The Jetta wagon made a showing at the corner of the VW tent. It was a pre-production model, and as so, was locked. Giant pizza slice tailamps look wierd in person as much as in pictures.

Lots of cool ideas... http://www.laautoshow.com/2007/DC/start.htm GM won the past two years, with the Hummer O2 (I think) and some GMC trailer.

The "Canada-only" VW City Jetta gets a mild facelift for 2008. Its basicaly the old MKIV Jetta, with new tailights and headlights. This is the same car currently sold in Mexico. http://www.volkswagen.com/vwcms_publish/vw...dels/jetta.html At first, Kris and I didn't know what we were looking at. The front looks like the previous Passat.

Some pictures of a base 2008 Ford Focus sedan at the Georgian College Autoshow in Barrie Ontario. Interior looks much nicer than before, and it flows together nicely. Fit and finish is ok, although the housing for the radio screen was loose. Exterior didn't have the chrome vents, and was very spartan. Some pictures of the 2008 Dodge Caliber SRT4. This was appearantly the only SRT4 currently in Canada. The price to power ratio is very good. Might be this generations Omni GLH!

This was my first time seeing the coupe in person. Both variants look much better in the flesh than pictures show. The rear styling on the sedan is pretty awkward looking though! Interior materials and fit and finish is very good. The wall of buttons and general style is not that fantastic. It gives of a kind of "not bad but not great" vibe. I don't know why, but the passenger side airbag cover came off completely. I swear I wasn't trying to break anything! Note the granny special gold Accord in the tent.

2008 Suzuki SX4 sedan. Great value for the money. A nice, neatly optioned little car. Only catch: it looks mildly retarded from a side profile. Would you believe $20,095 CAD for this: Look at all the stuff you get:

GM to Unveil 2 New Concept Cars in China Associated Press 04.02.07, 6:14 AM ET General Motors Corp. will unveil a new pair of concept cars in its Chevrolet and Buick lines at this month's Shanghai Auto Show, GM China said Monday. The cars will be among 40 vehicles the company and its Chinese joint venture partners plan to display as GM increasingly looks to China to offset sluggish sales and crippling legacy costs elsewhere. GM said the concept cars include the latest version of the Chevrolet Volt, the company's extended-range electric passenger vehicle which was introduced in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It said the Buick model w…

Went to the auto show today... GM had none of their new concepts, and only two '08 models --a Malibu LTZ and Enclave-- (no '08 CTS, '08 G8) on display. The Camaro concept was there in red, looks great in red. The Malibu and Enclave looked really, really good. The G6 convertible looks better in person, neat in top-up hardtop mode. The G6 GXP sedan, on the other hand...giant ugly grilles. Cadillac had some hotties talking up the cars. Over at the Ford stand, the Lincoln MKR and Ford Interceptor were in attendance, along with a concept coupe (don't recall it's name, kind of like a modern Cobra Daytona? GR-S or something?). The '08 Focus 4dr was there, along w…

Auto show was originall supposed to open tomorrow, and I heard reports yesterday that it was off completely. What they don't tell you in this story is that a tractor trailer and a crane were on the section of floor that fell. Hoping my free tickets will still be good for the rescheduled show if it still happens at all.

Hey everyone, for my 16th birthday my parents just surprised me today that they are taking me to detroit for the NAIAS. Every year we got to a local show like Philly and i just wanted to ask some questions to others who have been to the Detroit show before. Are there cars on the floors and open that you can sit in? How crowded does it get on public days? Any other feedback of the show would be great. Thanks guys.

Jessica and I went to the New England International Auto Show on Sunday (yesterday) It was sweet! This is also my first real auto show that I've been to. Since it's late and I have almost 200 photos to go through...I'll start posting tomorrow! I'll also post some in-depth comments on various vehicles I sat in, including the Nitro, 300 SRT-8, Equinox, LS, Fusion, Navigator, Elantra, XK, Sebring Limited, Ram Mega Cab, Tundra and several GMT-900s including the Silverado. A few other highlights: I have one major complaint about the GMT-900s...why do none of them have a driver's side grab-handle? Even the Chevy representative couldn't figure it out. I made a Buick re…
